Trinity Lutheran Church and School To reach up in worship, reach out through evangelism, and reach in by discipleship
Church Announcements For The Week of May 4, 2014
THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION AT TRINITY: The Lord’s Supper is celebrated in this congregation in the belief and confidence that in this
Sacrament, Christ is truly present, giving us His body and blood, in, with and under the forms of
bread and wine
(1 Corinthians 10:16, Mark 14:22-24). As Christians (and specifically as Missouri Synod Lutherans), we believe that it is through
Jesus Christ alone that we have the hope of eternal life. We believe that we are sinners in need of forgiveness and that
in the Lord’s Supper, God gives that forgiveness, strengthens our faith, and strengthens our
union with Him and each other (Romans 3:23, Matthew 26:26-28). As Christians, we also believe that as we come
to the Lord’s Supper, we are making a commitment to amend our sinful lives with the help of the Holy Spirit
(2 Timothy 2:19, Romans 8:6).
GUESTS AND VISITOR’S: Because those who eat and drink our Lord’s body and blood unworthily do so to their
harm and because Holy Communion is a confession of the faith which is confessed at this altar, any who are not yet
instructed or confirmed, or who hold to a doctrinal position differing from that of this congregation and the Lutheran
Church - Missouri Synod, and yet desire to receive the sacrament, are asked first to speak with the pastor
(1 Corinthians 11:27-29). At Trinity we practice Close Communion as adopted by our Synod in Convention.
ALCOHOL CONTENT IN WINE: The “red” wine in the chalice and in the outer rings of the communion cup tray
contains alcohol. The “white” wine in the center of the tray is de-alcoholized wine (alcohol nearly 100% removed).
You may use the red or white wine in the tray but please remember that the chalice has only “red” wine with normal
alcohol content.
Q: Typical question asked by visitors: Can only LCMS members take communion at Trinity Burr Ridge? A: The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod has never understood or applied the historic practice of close[d]
Communion in such a way as to mean that only LCMS members are permitted to commune at LCMS altars.
The official position of the Synod is that not only are members of other Lutheran churches with whom we are in altar
and pulpit fellowship invited to commune with us, but also that in certain extraordinary cases of pastoral care and in
emergencies members of churches not in fellowship with us may be given Communion. The Synod stated, for exam-
ple, in 1986 "that pastors and congregations of The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod continue to abide by the prac-
tice of close Communion, which includes the necessity of exercising responsible pastoral care in extraordinary situa-
tions and circumstances" (1986 Res. 3-08 "To Maintain Practice of Close Communion"). Please see
www.lcms.org for more information.

So many of us spend time thinking of ways of becoming the arms and legs of Jesus and in
the end our thoughts, simply remain thoughts. We ask ourselves what is an achievable
goal in which I can serve Jesus within my own community. How can I spread the word
of Jesus? Today, we are pleased to share with you an exceptional opportunity to turn
your thoughts into actions; becoming the arms and legs of Jesus…sharing his Word
within our Community. We are pleased to announce Trinity, Burr Ridge will be
hosting a Serving Clinic on Saturday, September 27, 2014. What is the Serving
Clinic? The Clinic is a way in which the members of Trinity and the community at large
can provide goods and services to folks within the community and neighboring communi-
ties who are experiencing financially difficult times. If the appropriate volunteers step
forward, the Clinic can provide healing prayer, medical evaluation, dental evaluation, vision screening, family
pictures, haircuts, manicures, as well as, toiletries, coats, and books/crafts for the children. We will offer those
in attendance, participants and volunteers, a light breakfast and lunch. The clinic can only be successful
in reaching those in need with the help of many. There are a variety of ways in which you can serve as
follows:
Asking your doctor, optical professional, dentist or nurse practitioner if he/she is interested in volunteering
(letters asking for help will be provided).
Asking your hairstylist or manicurist if he/she would like to donate a few hours.
You may be a Doctor, optical professional, Dentist or Nurse Practitioner, or Hairstylist looking to volunteer
Volunteer to lead one of the areas of the Clinic (Store, Prayer Room, Children's Crafts, Lunch, etc)).
Help set up, take down and clean up
If cooking is your strength, you may wish to help serve breakfast or lunch
If you are a people person, greeting folds, and escorting them through the process may be suitable for you

Do you enjoy "Coffee Hour" on Sunday morning? Why not consider hosting a coffee
hour! Don't know how to make the coffee? Directions are on the wall in the kitchen.
Don't bake? Let us know and we will provide the baked goods!!
If we don't get more new hostesses soon, "Coffee Hour" will have to be discontinued.
SAVE YOUR COATS - Just a reminder that we will be handing out winter coats again this
year at our serving clinic on September 27. If you could just hold on to any coats you might
otherwise get rid of, we will take them off your hands as the date gets closer.
Thank you in advance for helping others who are less fortunate!
LWML is sponsoring its annual food drive for Uptown Ministry in Chicago. We will be
collecting food from now until June 8. The food pantry always runs low in summer, so we like
to help them stock up. Non-perishable canned items as well as paper products are welcome.
The large box is in the narthex. Thank you for being part of Lutheran Women in Mission.
If you would like to write a check, please make it payable to “Chicago Uptown Ministry.”
On Sunday May 18th
We will celebrate our last day of Sunday School !
Come join us for our spring fling on Thursday, May 16 at 11:30 a.m.
Please bring your favorite dish and a $1 gift for crazy bunco.

Upcoming Youth Events:
Clothes Recycling ~May 18th This will be the last event to get money in your account before the summer mis-sion trips.
We will meet
following late church in the basement for lunch. We will head out to Aurora to bag clothes
that are on a truck and move them to another bin for them to be picked up and recycled.
Parents can get points as well. The goal is to leave at 12:30 p.m. and return around 5:00
p.m. The sign up sheet will be at the Plant Sale and in the 7/8 Grade classroom. If you
have clothes at your home that you are looking to get rid of, including shoes and belts, bring
them along. Questions can be addressed to Mr. Grady.
Our annual trip downtown will be on Saturday, May 31. We will leave the Trinity
School parking lot at 8:00 a.m. and head to the Hinsdale train station to catch the 8:50 a.m.
train. We will walk to Millennium Park to get our bikes. This year we will head south on the
lake front. You can bring your own bike hel-met. If you don’t have one you can get one for
free at the rental facility. You will need to pack your own lunch as well.
Cost for train ticket and bike rental will be around $25.

Evangelist Yamout Aiding LHM- Beirut with Syrian Refugees Will Speak at Salam/ Time Change
Do not miss Brother Mohammad Yamout’s inspiring presentation and the Middle Eastern dinner at Salam on
May 3, at 6: 00 p.m. Please RSVP to [email protected] or 331 645 0650
(see link: http://salamchristianfellowship.org/?p=513)
Yamout shares the love of Christ with Syrian refugees and others in South Lebanon, in the Middle East. Salam
has been raising funds for Bibles for more than one year for the Lutheran Hour Ministry in Beirut, where Ya-
mout gets them and passes them to refugees there.
In early February 2014, a group of Lutheran Hour Ministry (LHM)—
Lebanon volunteers led by Yamout traveled about 50 miles south of Beirut to a
refugee center in the coastal city of Tyre. The volunteers brought food, Bibles, Lutheran Hour Ministries materi-
als, and a Gospel message of comfort and hope to the Syrian families there, most of whom are Muslims.
“We pray,” says LHM—Lebanon Director Fadi Khairallah, “that the Word of God works in the heart of
everyone who attended and leads them to salvation through Christ.”
In addition to giving Syrian refugees in Lebanon the Bread of Life, Brother Yamout is helping with some of
their health issues with the support of a Korean medical team.
