PASTOR HESSE

We are on the verge of a new fiscal year, new school year and a new year of service for many of our elected and/or appointed officers of church boards. Every year, around this time of the year, there is a lot of new stuff taking place. It is hard not to imagine it being a whirlwind. In the Scriptures we

read that Job was questioning God and wondering why all these new, strange and horrible things were happening to him. We read that Job got the answers to his questions about God when it says, “Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind… (Job 38:1)” The answers Job got were a lesson in not questioning God, but simply trusting that He will never fail us. God is real. God is present. God is God! Our school year theme and the theme of other ministries at Trinity this year is “Real. Present. God.” We have an incredible blessing when trapped in the whirlwind of everything that is going on. The theme “Real. Present. God.” Is based on a Psalm familiar to nearly all of you; it is based on Psalm 46. Instead of a God that answers out of a whirlwind, we have a God who becomes present among us and invites us to “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10) There is no doubt that we will have a challenge in front of us throughout the next fiscal year of service in the church. Our congregation’s budget has exceeded 2.5 million dollars. Our ministries with Pre-K and our Child Development Centers are growing. Our school enrollment is growing. Our ministries are growing. In the midst of our organizational whirlwind we have the great privilege to share with children and families that God is not only real, but present. There is no doubt that as we launch a worshiping community in the Woodlands in just a few months there will be a whirlwind of things to accomplish. We have been given the tremendous opportunity and blessing to share to the Woodlands neighborhood that God is not only real, but present. As we gather for worship, there are so many things going on in our own lives. When we worship, often times we find ourselves in the midst of personal whirlwinds. We still have a real God who makes himself present. I am not talking about God’s divine omnipotence that we could never fully understand. God makes himself present in real time and real space. We have a Lord’s Supper where we express that Jesus himself is really present. We have a worship place where God’s name is invoked and there He promises to be with us. We have a God who comes to you and me in love and grace and invites us to know Him through Jesus Christ. It was Jesus who became God in real time and in real places to bring to us that love and grace from God. There are many religions all around the world teaching that God is real. The Christian religion is the only religion teaching that God is present to love us. God makes His presence among us so that where He is we might receive the invitation to “Be still and know God.” This next fiscal year, school year and year of service guarantees to be a whirlwind. I pray that each of you in the whirlwind may know the real, present God who loves you always. In His service, Pastor Hesse, Josh 1:9

This is our 2018-2019 school theme based on Psalm 46:1, as we celebrate and recognize all

God’s blessings for 71 years of school ministry that impacts young lives throughout the Amarillo

community! Our theme will also share the JOY we all have in bringing the love of our REAL,

PRESENT, GOD into the young lives of His precious children, and as we assist parents in

developing and loving these future leaders in our community. Join us in celebrating the Hope we

have in Jesus because we share a…Real. Present. God.

LWML The Texas District LWML Convention in July was attended by 10 Trinity ladies plus one Young Women Representative, Teresa Bowling , and one teen, Briana Mendez, who participated in the teen program. Our society took the wonderful collection of baby items our congregation contributed. Each zone was asked to bring a quilt runner for a Waco hospice group; thanks to the two Trinity women who each made a runner...part of the t 81 runners brought to convention. LWML will start their next year of "serving the Lord with gladness" on Monday, August 20, 6 PM; this is 30 minutes earlier than usual to give enough time for planning and a not-too-late return-home time. Everyone is encouraged to bring their ideas to this planning session for our 2018-2019 year, as we follow the convention theme, "Filled to Overflowing." The Executive Board will provide refreshments and devotions.

Board of Elders

The 61st. Texas District

Convention The Texas District of the

Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod met in Convention, June 14-16, 2018 in Irving, Texas for its 61st Convention. Pastor Hesse and Henry Janhsen served as pastoral and lay delegates to the Convention. Approximately 600 delegates and guest were in attendance. The theme of the convention was “Firmly Standing-Boldly Sending”, based I Corinthians 15: 1-6. The Rev. Dr. Dale A. Meyer, president of Concordia Seminary, served as convention essayist and presented a Bible Study on the theme text. He stated that is was a good time to be in the Church and a good time to be getting into the ministry. After all whose church is it? Is it the pastors? No. Is it the Synods? No. It is God’s Church. We should carry on the ministry with courage and cheerful confidence knowing this fact.

The Convention honored retiring president Ken Hennings for his twelve years service as Texas District President and elected Mike Newman as the new District President. President Hennings has completed 45 years in the ministry. President elect Newman is currently serving as Texas District Mission & Ministry Facilitator, Area C. He has been in this role since 2008. Prior to working for the district he was at Concordia San Antonio as associate pastor for four years. Newman has been a member of the synod for 31 years and was ordained in 1987. The opening worship with Holy Communion was held Thursday evening with the Rev. Dr. Herb Mueller, 1st. V.P. of LCMS as the preacher. This service is always the highlight of the Convention. The music and singing was awesome and uplifting. Nowhere but a Lutheran convention will the singing drowned out the organ. LCMS President Matthew Harrison gave a report on the Synod. He discussed the many challenges and opportunities facing our church stressing the efforts for church growth. He also announced the coming alter and pulpit fellowship with the 4.5 million member Malagasy Lutheran Church. He also cited an example of church mergers, similar to Trinity and Christ. The churches he spoke of were in Kansas worshiping about 40 each after combining are now worshiping 240. President Harrison praised the Texas District on its effort to plant new churches. Charessa Koontz was elected to the District Board of Directors. Congratulation to Charessa, and thank you for your dedicated service to our church. May God Bless you as you serve in this new position. I want to encourage each of you to visit the Texas District web page to listen to the worship services and the presentations by President Harrison, Dale Meyer and others. I want to thank the members of Trinity for allowing me to represent you at this convention. To God be the glory.
