A word from Fr. Jim
Dear People of God at Trinity,
In this month of September, there will be throughout this country many memorial services marking the
tenth anniversary of those tragic events that took place in New York City, Washington, D.C., and the hills
of western Pennsylvania on September 11, 2001.
Thinking back now, we knew on that day that our lives had been changed. What we did not know was
how much! On that day our country and the world entered into a new, frightening, and dangerous age.
But, we were not aware of how dangerous! We knew that peace was gone. We did not know for how
long!
The past ten years have brought war and conflict not only to us, but to peoples in many lands around the
globe. The fighting in so many places and the growing violence in so many parts of the world shows us
that we do not know when or if a true, lasting, and just peace will come.
Looking back at the history of Jesus’ time, we see that he too lived in an unstable and dangerous world.
We also see that Jesus did not promise his earliest followers that he would change all that, and unfortu-
nately he does not promise us that now. What he did promise then, what he promises now, and his prom-
ise that endures into the future is that in the midst of difficult and dangerous times he gives us something
rich, and comforting, and enduring. That something that he gives to us is the peace of his presence with
us.
Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do
not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid.” (John 14:27)
With this in mind, let us in the midst of the strife, violence, and calamities of our world lift our prayer to
God:
O God, it is your will to hold both heaven and earth in a single peace. Let you great love shine on the
waste of our wraths and sorrows, and give peace to your church, peace among nations, peace in our
homes, and peace in our hearts; through you Son, Jesus Christ, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives
and reigns now and for ever. AMEN.
Faithfully yours,
The Bishop is coming !!! The Bishop is coming !!!
On Sunday, September 25th
Bishop Paul will be with us
to preach, confirm seven of our young people,
and celebrate The Holy Eucharist.
There will be One Service that Sunday at 9:30am.
A reception will follow.
CALLING ALL ACOLYTES Acolyte Meeting
Saturday September 17 In the Church This will be a meeting for all current acolytes as well as those wishing to
become acolytes.
“In Search of ‘The REAL’ Paul”
Our Fall Study Groups will examine the Life, Writings, and Theology of St. Paul,
exploring his relevance for his time and for the modern Christian.
Group Meetings will be:
Mondays at 7:00pm or Wednesdays at 11:00am
The Fall Sessions runs September 12th thru November 16th
For further information, contact Fr. Jim.
Keep saving your coins and save the date!
On Sunday, September 18, at both services we will have the yearly ingathering of the United Thank Offering (UTO). Please bring your blue boxes and/or envelopes on that date to put in the collection plate. (It would be helpful to the counters, but not necessary, to count your change and make a check in that amount.)
Remember that the United Thank Offering is a personal and family devotional program which presents an invitation to offer daily tangible thanks for blessings every day by prayer and offerings to help others. It is not too late to begin now. Blue boxes are available in the church lounge.
A mealtime prayer:
“Lord, we thank you for all who have come. to this table to share in this meal. May all the food we have this day help us to grow strong bodies. May the food we eat help us to have a clear mind and help us to grow in your likeness, Lord. Thank you, God. Amen”
“Gratitude takes three forms: a feeling in the heart, an expression in words, and giving in return.” Sisters Heartland Samplers, Inc.
A Thought about Stewardship
Each week as you place your check or your money into your offering envelop, you are
making a spiritual act of thanksgiving for all God’s gifts and blessings. It is an act of
graciousness and appreciation for God’s work and presence in our daily lives. Please be
generous as you return to God a portion of what God has given to you.
A word from “Trinity” the Church Mouse Dear Parishioners,
It is fun for me each Sunday to peer out from my niche in the church and see people placing
food in the “food pantry boxes”. This is one way we live into our mission to feed the hungry
and bring compassion to the world. To date, I think we have made over twenty delivers of
food to the community food pantry. Keep up the good work so that we might bring life and
health to our community.
Trinity P.S. Don’t leave cheese, someone always seems to eat it. Hee!!! Hee!!!
THE MUSIC CORNER by Cora A. Gamelin-Osenbach
We can sense a change as we return to the sanctuary – vacations are coming to a close,
school begins, and another year of worship in our beautiful space takes shape. The choir
started rehearsals on August 31 in preparation for giving glory to God in song. Rehearsals
are every Wednesday evening in the parish lounge at 7:30 – if you would like to participate
in fellowship and great music, please join us! We are preparing special music for Confirma-
tion Sunday when Bishop Paul visits on September 25 – one service at 9:30 a.m.
That will be a busy Sunday as our 2011-12 Concert Series kicks off that afternoon at 4 pm.
Come be enveloped in the glorious sounds of Jennifer Laubach, mezzo-soprano and the
sublime accompaniments of Carol Comune, pianist and Steinway artist since 1997. Please
see the enclosed flyer for details. As always, if you can help in any way, please speak to Cora
or Father Jim. WE WILL NEED YOUR CULINARY SKILLS FOR THE RECEPTION
THAT AFTERNOON –PLEASE SIGN UP ON THE SHEETS IN THE AMBULATORY OR
THE BULLETIN BOARD – THANK YOU!
Sunday, September 18th is Baber Day, and the choir will sing at the 6 p.m. Evensong service.
You are invited to a tranquil end-of-day worship.
TRINITY ARTISTS – a reminder that our annual art exhibit will take place on Sunday No-
vember 20 in conjunction with our concert series. Please start your creative process now in
a medium of choice so that you can be ready to share your talents with the parish and com-
munity. Thank you! The deadline for submitting works is Friday, November 11th.
