Trinity Catholic Primary School is committed to providing an education that develops the whole person.
We believe that the social, emotional, moral, spiritual and physical wellbeing of our students
is pivotal to student health, safety, learning and success.
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we are at the end of Term Three already!! Our Foundation
students are three quarters of the way through their first year of school and our Year
Six students have only one term left of primary school. Carnival, Grandparents Day,
Graduation, End of Year Mass and excursions are just some of the activities planned for
Term Four, please keep your eye on the date section of the newsletter so you are
aware of what is happening.
The building program continues to progress well and we expect that the Grade 3/4
children will move into the Joyce Building during the week beginning Monday the 24th
of October. The Marian (Junior) Building is proving to be very successful with students
and staff enjoying their new space. We have a Catholic Education Office directed tour
group coming through on Friday to view our design.
Our Grade Three students enjoyed an excursion to Imax Theatre on Tuesday as part of
their Sun, Earth and Moon Istar unit. Thanks to the Grade Three teachers for their
organisation of this extra-curricular activity.
On Friday the students have the opportunity to wear their team colours as we
celebrate Footy Day. Thanks to Kathryn Pepper for her organisation of the day.
I remind parents that if you have a genuine reason for class placement requests for
next year could you please put them in writing addressed to myself by Friday 16th
October. An enormous amount of time and effort is put into the creation of class lists
and many factors are taken into consideration by staff. A written request will be
considered on its merits but it is not a guarantee. Who is teaching which grade has not
yet been decided so please do not request certain teachers. At Trinity we work on a
whole school approach and we are blessed to have a committed teaching staff who
collaborate together to give the very best learning opportunities to all students in our
care. Please be aware that a request has to be made for this current year, we will not
be referring to requests made 12 months ago as circumstances change.
Over the last few weeks Trinity has begun the process of migrating to a Google Apps
For Education Platform (GAFE). GAFE is an on-line suite of tools for highly interactive
classroom collaboration and allows students access to such tools as gmail, drive,
calendar, docs, sheets and slides. Within this space, students can create, share,
collaborate and edit their work and record their learning and interaction with others in
real-time. All student’s learning can be uploaded into their student GAFE space and
accessed anywhere, anytime. In preparation for student migration to the GAFE space
we may experience some interruptions to the use of and access to student email over
the course of Term 4. Students are encouraged to save their learning on the Student
server when at school. We look forward to student access and the increased
opportunities of ICT learning as we negotiate through this transition. We thank
students and parents for their cooperation and understanding.
A reminder that Monday 3rd October is a student free—Staff Professional Learning Day.
I hope that all families have a very safe and happy holiday break and I look forward to
working with everyone again next term.
Regards,
Simon Dell'Oro

PLEASE WASH!!
Could all cloth lunch bags please be washed over the holidays so that they are clean and ready to use when Term 4 starts. They are easily washed in the
washing machine, just remember to take the paper out of the plastic pockets!
We would also like to request that parents please check these lunch bags after each canteen day as we often find left over food or packaging still in the bag. This is of a
health concern and we may be unable to use the cloth bag if we deem it dirty. Just a thought to think about, would you dish up dinner on a dirty plate! We would appreciate
your help in this matter. Thank you.

LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP
FOOTBALL
On Friday the ninth of September some of the year six and five students went to play football at the
lightning premiership which was held at Toomuc Reserve in Pakenham. There were two teams which were
Trinity and Narre South Lions. The Trinity team won 2 games and lost 2 games as did the Narre South Lions
team (NSL). The coaches for Trinity were Mr Hellier and Mr Argoon. The coach for the NSL team was Mr
Smith. We thank these parents for giving up their day to help us with their coaching tips. We also thank all
of the parents who came down and cheered us on. All of the kids had an amazing day and we thank God for
holding the rain off until we left. The day could not have been more successful if not to the teachers of
Trinity and all the other schools. We were up against different schools but in the end Saint Bridget’s came
first and Saint Catherine’s came second.

NETBALL On the 9th of September the Grade Fives and Sixes
went to Lightning Premiership to represent Trinity
in a good manner. The netball games were played
at Cardinia Life Stadium in Pakenham. There were
5 different teams that were put into the
competition. Most teams had 7 players in them,
they were all mixed with experienced and
beginning players. There was also a mix of Grade
Fives and Sixes in each team. Trinity played a
round robin of netball games, each game was 14
minutes long with two 7 minute halves.
Trinity went really well and showed great maturity
whilst playing these games, winning or losing.
After all, Trinity placed 3rd in the netball. What a
great achievement for our Trinity netballers!

NEWCOMBE
On Friday the 9th of September, some of the grade 5’s and 6’s went to St Francis Xavier college,
Beaconsfield for lightning premiership to play Newcombe. We sent three teams to participate, each team
played four games, some lost some won. Unfortunately, trinity came 7th, St Patrick’s came 1st and St Brigid’s
came 2nd. We all had a lot of fun playing against other schools. The grade 5’s played very well for their first
time playing against the other schools. A big thank you to the teachers and the parents who came to help
and watch us play.

SPORTS NEWS
SENIOR HOOP TIME
Six teams of senior students represented Trinity in Basketball Victoria’s
Senior Hoop Time competition on Tuesday, September 6th. The students
travelled to Dandenong Basketball Stadium to play against teams from
various schools.
Congratulations to all students for their outstanding behaviour and fair play.
It was great to see everyone cheering on their team mates and supporting
the other Trinity Teams. Two of our teams were made up of Rookies. For
these students it was their first opportunity to participate in an official
basketball competition and for them to apply the various skills they had
learned in Physical Education lessons. It was exciting to witness students
making connections between their learning at school and their experience
of playing in a competitive environment.
Well done to the ‘All Stars’ team for winning the Grand Final against
Heritage College winning convincingly 22-4 and progressing to the Regional
Finals on Monday, October 17th. We wish them well for their training and
the next level of competition.
A huge thank you to the following parents and helpers who volunteered to
coach teams and score games for the day – Celeste Vogrig, Michelle
Jayawadena, Darren Smith, Will Moore, Sofie Hollow, Andii Bell and Bryden
Banks. Thanks also to the many parents who came to support the Trinity
teams. Special thanks to Michelle Edmanson and Emma Lamb for their
assistance on the day and for coaching teams. We appreciate them sharing
their enthusiasm and expertise with the students.
All students involved in Regionals will be receive further details before the
end of term.

GRADE 3 EXCURSION
Yesterday the grade three students went to IMAX and the museum. We watched a movie called “A Blue Planet.” I learnt that astronauts can see lightning from space. I enjoyed seeing all the animal
exhibits at the Melbourne Museum as well. I had lots of fun. (Selena 3D)
At IMAX we watched a movie called “A Blue Planet.” I learnt that there is a red lake on Earth that is filled with red algae. I also saw lots of different types of dinosaur bones at the museum. I
enjoyed going, it was very exciting. (Georgia 3D)

TRINITY CAR PARK ETIQUETTE For greater safety and visibility, we are requesting that all
drivers reverse park into the marked bays.
Thank you all who use the pedestrian crossing area. You are
demonstrating to your children correct road safety practices. Once children cross the pedestrian crossing into the parking
area, they, for their safety, need to be placed into vehicles
promptly. The car park is NOT a meeting area.
The lane around the edge of the car park (closest to the oval)
are for vehicles waiting to pick children up from the Pick-up
Zone ONLY.
The two parking bays closest to the office path are the PICK-
UP ZONES. These are NO STANDING zones. If your children are not ready to get into your car as you pull up to
the pick-up zone, you must continue on and rejoin the end of
the pick-up queue.
There is NO RIGHT TURN when exiting the car park. All
vehicles must turn left for the safety of others and to maintain
traffic flow.
THE GATES CLOSE AT 9.00am AND RE-OPEN AT 3.00pm.
Occasionally they might re-open slightly later due to school
activities.
Thank you for your patience and consideration of others.

PASTORAL CARE NEWSLETTER 14th September 2016
WE CONGRATULATE: The Sibi Family (Liya 1J) on the safe arrival of a new baby daughter.
WE PRAY FOR: Ava Taa’la’s (1H) aunty who died recently: for Mr. Dell’Oro’s Father who is unwell at present; for Mrs. Scarton’s mother who is seriously unwell: those Mothers expecting babies; those parents undergoing treatment for Cancer; those awaiting the
results of tests; for the needs of all our Families, and for the builders working on the
renovations to our school.
SECOND HAND UNIFORMS: Thank You to those families who have recently sent in second hand uniform pieces for re-sale. Please do not send in pants which have the knees out as I only have to throw them out. If you need uniforms for your child
(ren) and cannot afford them, please come and see me. The summer
uniforms will be half-price from now until the end of term.
A COT WHICH CONVERTS TO A TODDLER BED is available from Mrs. Cahill.
PLAYGROUP today, among other things, made caterpillars from Marie biscuits icing and
marshmallows. (One of the best bits about this activity was the children licking their fingers – I hope some of the Dads got to see them after work and that they weren’t all gobbled up by then!)
A WORD FROM POPE FRANCIS: The family is the
privileged school for learning generosity, sharing, responsibility. A school that teaches how to overcome a certain individualistic mind-set which has worked its way
into our societies. Sustaining and promoting families, making the most of their fundamental and central role
means working for a just and supportive development. (A Year with Pope Francis on the Family, page 254.)
May you all have a restful change of routine over the next couple of weeks.

PARISH STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM 2016
Our Stewardship Program concludes this week as we focus on how Our Parish Community
Supports Generously. Over the weekend, Fr Richard Ross will invite us to make a meaningful financial commitment to support our parish – and emphasise the need to plan
and budget for it as a priority in our lives.
PARISH PRIEST’S CORNER
Last Tuesday evening all parishioners were invited to our Stewardship meeting, which
occurs once every three years- about 100 people attended. The evening focussed on a
number of aspects in parish life; our financial position, our achievements and the challenge ahead of us. Law Architects also presented our vision for the future-the plans
for the realignment of the church, new parish centre and new administration centre.
As we approach the commencement of building it is good to once again put in writing the journey we have made. One vital aspect of the parish life is developing a master plan-
where we are now and where we need to be in the future. A master plan is a blue print – documents, drawings and listing of long term and short term goals, including budget costs
and time schedules. We have been fortunate to have a very skilled Master Plan Group at OLHC to move our parish forward these past 5 years.
The first role of this master plan was to look at the design of our Church. Initially we looked at the possibility of building a new church. However, at the first Whole Parish
Meeting and following Master Plan Group Meeting it was decided that the excessive cost of building a church and the more urgent need for parish centre and administrative centre,
meant that our brief focus on these latter two areas.
After interviewing 4 architects in a thorough discernment process, Law Architects were
chosen. The Brief asked that they concentrate on the parish centre and office, with a budget of two million dollars. However, after completing the initial sketch drawings it was
felt that the relationship with the church was so important that the church needed to be realigned o maximise use of the parish centre, as overflow for the large gatherings at our
church.
The budget now, including the church, is three million dollars. With about one million being spent on the church we can complete the following work;1. raising the roof to
provide a sense of raising our minds and hearts to God- in other words helping us to appreciate the transcendence and immanence of God; 2. removing one of the pillars and
placing the sanctuary in a suitable place, to allow for the realignment of the church; and
3, creating a narthex to allow a more prayerful way of entering the church. Passing through the doors of the church we remember Jesus words, “I am the door, whoever
enters through me will be safe.”
In the coming weeks I will include some thoughts on particular aspects of the church plan to allow everyone to appreciate the intention of the architects, who have worked hard to
enhance our liturgical and community spaces. Fr. Brendan
