TERM 2 WEEK 1 13th APRIL 2016 Dear Parents, Welcome back as we commence Term Two, I hope that all families enjoyed a relaxing break. The first day back of term is always one of my favourite days working within a school, it is a privilege to be able to watch the children return excited and happy about reconnecting with their friends and staff. The students have quickly settled into a sound working routine. Once again the term is very busy with many events and activities, I encourage all families to keep your eye on the dates section of the newsletter. It was wonderful on Monday morning to see the students enjoying our refurbished oval. I thank Michael Locandro for the effort he has put into its development, it has been appreciated. The students should now have an oval with appropriate drainage that can be enjoyed throughout the whole year. We had to postpone our opening ceremony on Monday morning due to the weather. It will now be tomorrow (Thursday) at 10.30am. Parents are most welcome to attend. We welcome Mrs Jenny Leveque onto the staff as an Education Support Officer and Mrs Kathleen Gatehouse will extend her hours at the school to undertake an Education Support Officer role as well as her canteen commitments. Maria Scarton will be on Long Service Leave for the first four weeks of this term along with Georgegina Nettleingham for the first week. Amanda Crowley will be teaching grade 3S during Maria’s leave and Jaimilee Marsden (who teaches 2 days per week in 4MN) will teach the extra three days this week whilst Georgegina is absent. Tracey Sligar will be on LSL for the first two weeks of the term, Suzanne Wells will cover her canteen duties and Romalie and Glenice will compile the newsletter in her absence. The builders have been busy over the holidays refurbishing the Marian Building. Their entrance to the school is at the far end of the staff carpark and the jobsite is completely fenced off from the students. The safety of the children is the first priority throughout the course of this project and as the builders make their way around the school the restricted areas for the students will change. We will keep students and families informed of these developments as they occur. Next Wednesday, the 20 th , is our Trinity Athletics Carnival at Casey Fields with the day commencing with the official welcome at 9.30am. All parent helpers, to arrive by 9.00am. We thank them for their help on the day. Events will begin at 9.40am. I remind parents that we cannot take your child to the carnival unless their permission form is returned. We are still in need of parent helpers, if you can assist could you please contact Catrina Charman or Nicole Cahill asap. Thanks to Catrina and Nicole for the effort they have put in organising the event. We are in the process of organising our Foundation (Prep) enrolments for 2017. Forms are available at the Office for existing families. We are again expecting enrolment pressure, therefore it is most important that existing families return their forms asap to be guaranteed a position.

As it is Term 2 all students are to wear their full school winter uniform. As the mild weather is

still with us this will be fully implemented by the end of next week.

Parents would be aware that one of our students, Seth Sleep, is recovering from leukemia. It is

wonderful to hear that Seth’s recovery remains on a very positive track, however, his immune

system is still low and vulnerable. We ask that if your child catches any infections or diseases

(measles, chicken pox etc.) that you please inform the school asap so we can let Seth’s family

know.

PASTORAL CARE NEWSLETTER

13th APRIL 2016

I hope you are all having a wonderful Easter Season.

Yes, Easter is a Season which lasts for 50 days ending with the Feast of

Pentecost.

We fast for the 40 days of lent.

We feast for the 50 days of Easter.

This is not always good for the waistline !

WE PRAY FOR: Those parents undergoing treatment for Cancer ; those awaiting the results

of tests; those who are expecting babies; for all our needs and the needs of our Families; for the

builders working on the renovations to our school.

Thank you to those who have sent along clean uniforms in good condition.

GARDEN GROUP: Due to the building renovations we are unable, at present, to use our

veggie beds. So I am hoping that we can use polystyrene boxes…can you help? Please send along

to Sister Joy if you have one or more polystyrene boxes that you are not using yourselves.

NOW IS ALSO THE TIME TO DO YOUR CUTTING BACK, SO PLEASE POT UP A

FEW CUTTINGS and if they str ike we will again have a good plant stall at our school

Carnival in October.( to do this I just use a large pot with potting mix and put the cuttings in. If

they have struck by September then pot into smaller pots – this saves double work! And you can

just discard those which have not struck.)

The April issue of “Melbourne’s Child” is now available just inside the Hall foyer door.

Please feel free to take a copy.

COMING EVENTS: 39TH April. Autism Expo. more info : melbourneautismexpo.com.au

PLAYGROUP: We continued our Easter theme this morning with our Easter Bonnetts,

( which Mum helped us to make over the holidays), and a visit from 3 baby Rabbits which were

born just before Easter. We all had a cuddle. We also enjoyed rabbit shaped biscuits which one of

our Mums and Sister Joy made. The first part which was eaten was the marshmallow tail of

course!

Pope Francis writes: Let us remember the three key words for living in peace and joy in our

Families: May I? Thank you and Sorry. In our Family when we are not intrusive and ask may I?

in our Family when we are not selfish and learn to say thank you, and when in a Family one

realizes he/she has done wrong and knows how to say sorry, in that Family there is peace and joy.
