THE WEEK IN REVIEW

Dear Parents and Carers,

It has been a very long and busy half term! One of the highlights this week was our wonderful film night. It was great to see so many children enjoying the films on Tuesday. A HUGE THANK YOU to the staff and Friends for running and organis-ing this great event.

Another highlight this week was the drum demonstration on Monday afternoon for Years 3-6. The children really enjoyed learning about the drum kit and different styles of drumming. We are extremely fortunate to have access to instrumental lessons for pupils. Do ask your child to collect an information leaflet from the Middleton Tyas office, if they would like to pursue this. We can offer lessons on virtually any instrument and whilst there is a small charge for most pupils, some les-sons can be accessed free of charge, for example, if families are in receipt of free school meals.

In Preschool this week, the staff and children have been making the most of this glorious weather. The children have been thoroughly enjoying completing all sorts of jumps, hops and steps. Do have a look at the photos on the gate. In Recep-tion, the children have been focusing on sequencing Traditional Tales and particularly enjoyed acting out the story of Gold-ilocks and the Three Bears.

This week in Year 1, the children have been looking at imperative verbs (bossy verbs) and time conjunctions. They have enjoyed using these in their instruction writing. They even had a chance to follow real-life instructions when they made their own ‘Sponge Finger Racing Cars’ – this was great fun and apparently they were delicious! They have also written their own awesome instructions to help other people enjoy making them too, so do go ahead and ask your child to instruct you how to do it. Following their penguin adoption in Year 2, the children have been persuading other classes to adopt an endangered animal. In maths, they have been making designs out of 2D shapes and in Science they have been learning how they can reduce, reuse and recycle to help the environment.

In Year 3, the children have been studying the Islamic faith in RE and have learned about the life of Muhammad. Amelia brought in a book for children showing us how to use good manners in Arabic. In Science, they had a look at lots of rock samples and grouped them into different types such as igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary. The Year 4 children have been having lots of fun practising their production and the children have been absolutely fantastic - It is sounding brilliant! In science they have been investigating how they can charm worms to rise to the surface. They tried stomping and even playing the ukulele – They have had lots of fun!

This week Year 5 have worked incredibly hard on some fantastic creative stories about the Northern Lights. They have also really enjoyed performing their final Lindy Hop dance routines to the rest of the school in Worship. This week the work Year 6 have been doing in their writing so far this year, has culminated in them re-writing part of their class novel. Alt-hough the focus is on shifting formality, the children have been using all of their skills as writers to create some seriously impressive narratives! The children have also been looking at the religious make up of Darlington and how diverse our society is.

After half term, it will be Book Week. We have a ‘Book Bus’ visiting both settings on Monday, a Book Fair at Middleton Tyas after school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and of course World Book Day on the Thursday too. Also on Tuesday, the Year 5 children will be enjoying a Samba Workshop – we look forward to hearing all about it!

For day-to-day enquiries please contact the school office or speak to your child(ren)’s class teacher. As you know, I work

for the Federation for 50% of the week and share my time between school sites, so am not always available. Do remem-

ber that our Head of School, Mrs McLean, can be contacted on a daily basis if necessary.

Have a lovely half term break and I look forward to seeing you in school soon.

Kindest regards,

Mrs K. Williamson, Executive Headteacher

Starting on 4th March (and continuing all week), we are celebrating all things books and reading.

On Monday, a ‘Book Bus’ will be visiting Eppleby Forcett in the morning. Children can bring some money into school (in a named envelope) and will be able to buy books from this mobile book shop! The bus will then be visiting Middleton Tyas in the afternoon, where children can also purchase their own books.

After school on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday there will be a Book Fair held in the Middleton Tyas school hall, where children can buy new, discounted, books.

On Thursday 7th March it is ‘World Book Day’. We invite all children (and staff) to come to school dressed as a character from a book for a £1 donation.

All of the money raised over the course of the week, will go straight back into purchasing new English resources for our schools.

HEAD LICE

We have had a case of head lice reported within our schools.

Please can all parents/carers check and treat your child’s hair thoroughly in order to help prevent further occurrences.

SCHOOL GOVERNORS REQUIRED

SCHOOL GOVERNOR, TRINITY ACADEMY EPPLEBY FORCETT AND MIDDLETON TYAS

We are looking to appoint two governors from our local communities to provide skills and support to our gov-erning body.

The Governing body already has good representation from parents, people with an education background and people with links with our church community. We are very ambitious for our schools to provide the best possi-ble learning environment for our children and continuously develop and support our staff to achieve this.

We would be particularly keen to hear from people with finance, communications or business skills. The school is part of the Dales Academy and the Governing Body forms part of the Dales Trust governance arrangements.

If you are interested and would like further information, please email the Chair of Governors Janet Probert at [email protected]

or

visit our new website which will be launched on 4th March 2019 - www.trinityefmt.dalesmat.org.

THANK YOU FROM CHILDREN IN NEED

SWIMMING GALA

Year 3/4 and Year 5/6 took part in a local swimming gala today.

Our school came 2nd overall which means we are through to the next round which takes place in April. Further details will be sent out nearer the time.

Congratulations to all the children that took part, we are very proud of each and every one of you.

Well done!

COUNTY MUSIC TUITION

Dear Parents/Carers,

I am writing concerning fees for the next financial year 2019/20. The Music Service is now a fully traded organisation and as such we work on a finan-cial year basis i.e. all budgets and funding are set from April to April.

Historically, fee changes have not reflected this, as any changes have come into effect from September and the start of the new school year. You will remember me writing to inform you that we froze fees in September 2018. I was very much hoping that we could do the same for this financial year but due to a 3.5% pay award for teachers and a predicted increase of 7% in pension contribution from employers we are having to raise fees by 2% for this next financial year. Please see the attached flyer for details.

Unfortunately we are also having to cease sibling discount from academic year 2019/20. We no longer receive funding from the County Council to cover this cost. We will however maintain remissions for those on working tax credit, Free School Meals and Looked After Children so as to maintain our commitment to North Yorkshire Music Hub’s wider access policy.

Deadlines for Stopping Tuition or Music Centre: If we do not hear from you, we will assume tuition and/or Music Centre membership will continue in the Summer Term. In addition please note that tuition and Music Centre will automatically continue once the Autumn term starts in September 2019, unless you provide notice to cancel prior to this. Pupils currently in Year 6 will, in most cases, be able to carry on tuition in the Autumn term 2019 without having to re-register; information will be sent to you shortly.

Please note: we require half a term’s notice should you wish to stop tuition.

Term Dates 2019 / 2020: Details of the teaching weeks 2019/20 can be found inside the front page of the Prac-tice Diary which will be issued in September, or on the North Yorkshire Music Hub website

http://northyorkshiremusichub.co.uk/instrumental-tuition/term-dates/

Privacy Notice: The Music Service collects your personal data in order to process you application / registration and to provide the requested music tuition. For more detailed information on why the Council stores and process-es your data please refer to the NYCC privacy notice: https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/privacy-notices

Please do visit our Music Hub website at www.northyorkshiremusichub.co.uk for further details and to read past and present news from Music Centres, concerts and other events taking place. Thank you for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

Ian Bangay

Head of North Yorkshire Music Service
