PRESIDENT’S SPEAKS

Rtr. Abdul T Z Sanoon

Rtr. Neha Gupta

We the Rotaract Club of Colombo Millennium City started the Rotaract year 2010/11 with the theme ‘Because We Care’.

The story behind our theme is keep it simple & have fun - do what your heart tells you to through service to your family, your friends, and your community by touching their hearts.

On a joint initiative of twinning with the clubs of Rotaract Kota & Zenith we hope to continue the same on a start to a strong & long lasting Rotaract relationship.

The three clubs collectively are now a family and we at RCCMC are proud and honored to be a part of that family.

We look forward to bringing down our new family to Sri Lanka very soon. Await more information.

Yours in Rotaract,Rtr. Abdul T Z Sanoon,President Rotaract Club of Colombo Millenium Citysponsored by Rotary Club of Colombo Millenium CityRotary International District 3220

Dear Readers,

2011 has been very eventful since the very first month of January. District Conference “Bani-Thani”, “Rotasia” , PETS -2011-12 etc have kept me on my toes. But that’s exactly what we Rotaractors excel in. Managing everything under the sun. Isn’t it? Whether it is professional life, studies, career, Rotaract or Personal life, we manage everything well.

Friends, As you all are already aware that at Rotasia , Goa, we had the tri- Party Twin club Agreement between Rotaract club of Colombo Millennium city , Sri Lanka and Rotaract club Zenith , Chennai. So going forward in the series of steps which we might be taking during rest of year to gain maximum culturally and professionally from each of us ,This E-bulletin shall serve as a small token of remembrance of the historic agreement where instead of usual two , three clubs have done their twinning together.

I believe that this initiative will help in promoting better goodwill and fellowship among our clubs. This initiative is very unique in the fact that it is binding three very extremely culturally rich RI districts. Joining up of a club of North India, a club of South India and a Club of Sri Lanka is definitely exceptional and amazing. Although we are dispersed in different parts of the globe but this bulletin effectively illustrates our “UNITY IN DIVERSITY” due to similar thoughts, aims and ambitions.

I hope there will be a lot of Cultural & Vocational learning as a result of this initiative.

I would like to specially thank Rtr Krishan Gopal Malu , Rtr Swathi Sujr , Rtr Abdul T.Z. Sanoon, Rtr Sulari and other Rotaractors in all three clubs for giving their contribution in this bulletin. Last but not the least I m extremely grateful to our Sponsored Rotary Club President Dr. Vikrant Mathur and other Rotarians of the club for their incessant motivation.

I wish for effective working of this coalition and achievement of our ambitions and goals.May God Be With Us.

Long Live Rotaract Fellowship!

Yours RotaractivelyRtr Neha GuptaPresidentRotaract Club of Kotasponsored by Rotary Club of KotaRotary International District 3050

Warm Rotaract Greetings,

It gives me immense pleasure to pen my message in this joint bulletin and I thank Rotaract Club of Colombo Millenium City and Rotract club of Kota for joining in this bulletin.

If any people asks me what you learnt from Rotaract, I will say FRIENDSHIP first. And I am really happy that we are developing our friendship across the region with Rotaract Club of Colombo Millenium City and Rotaract Club of Kota. We introduced as strangers to one another through social network, shared our interests, met at Rotasia 11 and now we are like a family. I would fail my duty, if i dint thank Rtr. Krishan Gopal Malu who encouraged us for the triparty twin club agreement.

Its our first joint project, and I am really happy that we are doing our first joint project on the occasion of World Rotaract Day. We just kickstarted and in our forthcoming years we together will come up with more innovative projects.

On behalf of Rotaract Club of Zenith, I wish all the success for Rotaract Club of Colombo Millenium City and Rotaract Club of Kota for their future endevours.

Rotaract Club of Colombo Millennium City’s 8th Installation Ceremony:

Rotaract Club of Colombo Millennium City (RCCMC) inducted their 8th President on 18th of September, 2010 at Olympic House, Colombo 7.

By taking the first step to success as true Rotaractors, Rotaractors of RCCMC started their Installation Ceremony sharp at 6pm as stated in the Agenda. They said what they needed to say in fewest words possible and mentioned that they want to give priority to actual work as Rotaractors rather than talking about the projects to be done.Rtr. Aeshya De Silva was pleased to hand over her responsibilities as president to Rtr. Abdul Sanoon, who she thinks is a well trained and disciplined Rotaractor and a lovely human being.

Rtr. Abdul Sanoon is the youngest president to be born in the RCCMC History and was referred to as a man with a great sense of humour and a strong persona by fellow Rotaractors and Interactors when giving out felicitations at the end of the ceremony. He has already made few dynamic changes in the club by bringing new active members into the club to expand the horizons of the club as a whole.

He proudly introduced his new Board of Directors as an exciting bunch of people, with vivid personalities that love to work in a team as one.

The President of RCCMC further stated that his intention for the Year 2010/11 is to give life to the Rotaract Movement by working and living with the true Rotaract spirit at all times and humbly invited the rest of the Rotaractors to join him to make his inspiring thought a reality.

The gentleman who graced the occasion as the chief guest, Mr. Reyaz Jeffrey, CEO, Amana Takaful Life, delivered his speech with few words of wisdom, managing to touch many young hearts that evening, making the event a little bit more colourful and exciting.

RCCMC’s annual theme was announced as, “Because We Care”. The young president said that he plans to keep up with their club theme, by joining hands with other Rotaract & Interact Clubs in District 3220 and Rotaractors Worldwide, since the Rotaract theme of the year “Connecting Youth – Building Friendships” cannot be forgotten.

Home Sweet Home – Giving the real warmth of a Home to an Orphanage:

Home Sweet Home is a continuing community service project done by Rotaract Club of Colombo Millennium City, initiated by Rtr. Chenthuran Balasubramaniam and his Community Services Team in 2010. We try to make homes of Orphan Children and Elders without any help from their families more than a shelter to rest... This year we focus mainly on helping Jayasekera Home in Colombo 6 a home with warm and caring touch to give it a feeling of a real home than just a Orphanage that take care of little girls..

These girls in Jayasekera Home are lively and smart but have very little to fulfil their basic needs and means in day to day life...

This home not only got little angel’s in human form but it has an interesting past behind it as well... The Jayasekera Home for Women & Children dates far back to the year 1924, when Mrs. Frances Janet Jayasekera, a lady with a big heart that wanted to make a change in the society like the Rotaractors at RCCMC, gave shelter at her own residence to girls and women discharged from prison and to othersdeserving protection.

We at RCCMC try our best to build their dreams and to help them to have better lives. We provide them clothes, stationery, food items as and when we can and we paint and renovate their home with all the funds we make from our finance projects.

We welcome our dear Rotaractors in all countries to join

hand with us and not only build their homes but build their ladders to reach to their wonderful dreams and goals come alive... This is our youth that walk in the Global Village and it would be great feeling if they feel at least closer to equal with people who lead normal lives.

If you would want to lend a hand to develop their skills or give a donation to help these little ones, please contact Community Service Director of RCCMC, Rtr. Chenthuran Balasubramaniam on +94 777 777 527 or [email protected]

Rotaract Club of Millennium city Raised the house was the first and the most happening Warehouse Party, Rai$e da Hou$e held at Warehouse Project in Maradana, Colombo 10 on 27th November, 2010. It was a fundraiser organized by our club for Community Service Projects in Year 2010/11.

It took a lot of time and energy of our club members. Each and every member worked day and night relentlessly to make this project a success. They organized an amazing fashion show with 4 designers who gave out their valuable designs to be displayed free of charge for this worthy cause and one designer was one of our very own Presidents in the District 3220, President Rtr. Taniya Perera of Rotaract Club of IIT.

There were many more attractions added to the night give value to the contributors of the event. We had dance battle competitions, local drummers capturing the audience with the tantalizing drum beats and music was played throughout the night by five internationally accredited and well known DJs in Colombo.

Fellow Rotaractors and the public supported this project immensely by attending the party, being a part of the event as designers, dancers and models. The crowd that came in rocked the night by dancing away till the wee hours of the morning till 3am... We were extremely thrilled to receive compliments from almost all people who visited this charity fund raiser because it was a innovative project done in District 3220.

It was wrapped up with hope to for another successful and innovative event to help our community live their dreams as we achieve our goals as Proud Rotaractors.

Special thanks to all my Rotaract Club President, Rtr. Abdul Sanoon, Project Co-ordinator, Rtr. Manjula Maldeniya and all club members for supporting me throughout the event. Kachori Project:

They Say “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”Inspired by this idea, we took an initiative to make Kota a cleaner place. Kota is very famous for Kachori shops. But people used to clutter the place by throwing used paper plates everywhere around the shop .So we had put banners on major Kachori joints in the city and educated the people there about the importance of clean surroundings and requested them to throw the garbage in Dust bin only.

Plant Distribution Project:

“The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago and second best is now.” Realizing it is never too late for planting trees, we took a free plant distribution program where we distributed 200 plants free of cost and also educated people the importance of trees for our survival and also gave them suggestions on taking care of trees/plants.

Training Seminar on Stock Exchange & Financial planning Recognizing the importance of financial literacy in the present times, rotaractors from RC Kota organized a training workshop on Stock Exchange and financial planning. QUESTIONNAIRE

1. Name/ Nick Name: Manjula Maldeniya / Manj

2. How long have you been in Rotaract? 8 Glorious years

3. What are the most interesting Positions you have held in Rotaract? President / Vice President / Treasurer / Secretary / Dir. International Understanding / District Treasurer / District Interact-Rotaract Coordinator / District Assistant Secretary

4. How is the support you receive from your sponsoring Rotary Club? Satisfactory. Could be better

5. What are your thoughts about having a Tri party twin club agreement between Rotaract Club of Kota, Rotaract Club of Zenith and Rotaract Club of Colombo Millennium City? I think it’s amazing where 3 clubs form a sort of an alliance to work together and make the community a better place.

6. Any experiences you would like to share from International Rotaract Events? International RYLA (USA, 2007) and Rotasia (India 2007). Amazing experience where you get to meet a lot of people and learn about cultural backgrounds and share local experiences with them. It gives a whole new meaning to globalisation of friendship. The best part about such networking is when you visit their country the next time, there is an open invitation to come and stay with them as they are ever willing to host fellow Rotaractors. That is the true meaning of friendship.

7. Do you have any International Project in mind on which we can work together on a bigger level and which can help both Sri Lanka and India? Well there are too many thoughts which cannot be put in writing. As time goes by, ideas can be brainstormed and put together as “ideas generated by many creative minds are better that one”.

8. What does Rotaract really mean to you? Rotaract is my 2nd home. Thanks to Rotaract, I have so many friends that I cannot count. Rotaract is a place you learn through your mistakes, a place to grow, build self confidence and be able to do anything at any given time.

9. What has it offered you within the years you have been a Rotaractor? It has helped me to become a confident person, a person who can take up a challenge and ensure it’s done till the end.

10. Final message or thought you will like to share with your fellow Rotaractors or Prospective Rotaractors. Rotaract is an amazing movement. When I joined back in 2002, I was a little sceptical as I did not know what was going on. However as years went by, I grew closer and in fact fell in love with the movement hence my 8 years of a wonderful experience. I would recommend this movement to anyone between 18-30 to join and make a difference; make a lot of friends, build friendships; they become your second family. I wish Rotaract term doesn’t haven’t end at age 30, however I must move on and give room for others to grow. This clearly shows how attached one could get to Rotaract. SO IF YOU ARE NOT YET A ROTARACTOR…. DON’T JUST SIT THERE…. JOIN A CLUB….
