What is OLED ?

“Organic Light Emitting Diode”• Organic material

• Natural organic materials are using carbon-based substances - i.e. sugar, wood and plastics• Inorganic substances include glass, stone and metals• Today, organic material is often artificially manufactured

• Light Emitting Diode• Process to convert electrical energy into light

Green light-emitting organic material

6 TRIMASTER EL

What is OLED ?

• OLED is an emissive device• No backlight!• Self luminous matrix array• Device is created by inserting several organic material layers between

two conductive electrodes

7 TRIMASTER EL

8 TRIMASTER EL

What is OLED ?

OLED uses emissive Electroluminescence layer made of organic compounds. • Multi layers are used to improve the device efficiency• The layers of organic semiconductors are located between two electrodes,

Anode and cathode.• Emit light in response to an electric current• Recombination of Electrons (-) and Holes (+)

in the emissive layer resulting withan emission of a photon

How it Works ?1. Host organic molecules are

used to transport the Electrons (-) and Holes (+) into the emissive layer for recombination.

2. When electrons and holes recombine, energy is transferred to the Guest organic molecules.

3. Guest organic molecules are releasing this energy by producing light (RGB).

Differences between BVM & PVM – the facts

1. Panel selection• Uniformity, viewing angle, defective pixels

2. Display Engine• BVM: Sony Display engine (Ultimate accuracy)• PVM: 3rd party engine (standard accuracy)

3. Features set• BVM-E: Digital cinema features• BVM-F: Advanced Broadcast features• PVM: Basic production features

What are the differences?

26 TRIMASTER EL

Differences between BVM & PVM – the factsPVM is good but…

27 TRIMASTER EL

For evaluation purposes, more accuracy is needed!

" How do you know which image is right?"

Differences between BVM & PVM – the facts

1. Does not have the same picture accuracy as BVM-F series

• Less precise I/P conversion, Less quality in SD• 10-bit PVM engine versus 12-bit output on BVM

• Less precise Colour Management System (3D LUT)• Video delay > 2 frames at highest picture level

2. Should not be considered as a reference monitor• Viewing angle is tighter• Less picture accuracy and consistency• Coarse tune colour temperature adjustment

3. Lack of advanced features set• No Dual Link mode• No channel selection for customisation• Basic Marker functions for production• No “Full range” bit quantization mode in HD SDI• No copy mode, pixel zoom, SbS, Frame capture, Memory Stick,

etc.

PVM is good but…
