Results: Dunderry 3-9 Trim 1-4

Intermediate sides Trim and Dunderry were pitted against each other in this division 2 football A league third round game. It was supposed to have been a home game for Dunderry but due to an unplayable pitch it was switched to Dungany. Conditions were dry but windy and bitterly cold with the harsh conditions affecting the quality of the game and resulted in many poor passes and shots at goal.

This defeat leaves Trim propping up the bottom of the table with no points after three rounds. A win is desperately required and matters are not helped due to fielding without some significant players due to work commitments, injuries and county hurlers unavailable for club league action. It was heartening to see the return of Paul Gilsenan from a long term injury and goalkeeper Mark Daly from England.

The Trim team was: Mark Daly; Colm O’Flaherty, Paul Flanagan, Eoin Kelly, Shane O’Connor, David Foley, Darryl Phelan, Frankie Murphy,  Kieran Joyce, Paul Gilsenan, Mark Gilsenan, Maurice Power, Kieran O’Rourke, Keith Hamilton, James Andrews. Subs – Colm McGrath, Andrew O’Brien, Sean Foley, Patrick Lennon, Garret White, John Redmond.

Trim scorers were: Kieran O’Rourke 1-0, Mark Gilsenan 0-2, Paul Gilsenan 0-1, and Keith Hamilton 0-1 (free).

Training for all Adult Football continues every Tuesday and Thursday at 8pm under Coach Brendan Murphy. All Adult football players welcome.

Inter County Duty Meath hurling team had great wins in the national hurling league, beating Down in

Newry in the first round and on the return of national league hurling to St Loman’s park they defeated reining Christy Ring cup holders London by nine points. A feature of the London match was the man of the match display by James Toher at centre back and in this match Ryan Andrews and Damo McGee made their senior inter county debuts. In the third round Meath played Mayo in Trim on Sunday the 10th of March and had another great victory winning by 8 points, our club man David Foley made his Senior Inter county Debut in that match.

Meath U21 football team had a great win over Louth in the first round of the Leinster championship but went out of the competition to a strong Kildare outfit on Wednesday 6th March. Meath Camogie team got off to a great start to their National league Div 2 campaign beating Waterford by three points and Antrim by four points. Rachel Winters, Katie Hackett and Captain Edel Guy started in these games with Sharon Hillard making her Royal Debut against Waterford. Shone White is also involved with this squad. Trim senior hurlers suffered a disappointing defeat to parish rivals Boardsmill in the first round of the hurling league Div 1 on Sunday morning at St Loman’s park, Boardsmill ran out four point’s winners and deserved their victory.

Trim lined out without a number of regulars with James Toher unable to play due to county commitment’s, Neil Heffernan playing collages finals the injured duo of Ronan Fitzsimons and Shane Ashe Trim struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game.

There were many positive things Trim can take out of this season’s opener, with the return of John Redmond to the red jersey and the debut of  Cork man Eolann Harrington and youngsters like Sean McGee, James Andrews, Luke Moran and Shane Downes sure to improve with every match Trim should have a good season to look forward to.

Juniors Hurlers Have Sixteen Points Win

Final score Trim 4-25 Moylagh 2-15:

Our Junior Hurlers traveled to Moylagh for the first round of the junior hurling league. In a high scoring match Trim won by 16 points against a spirited Moylagh outfit. An amazing statistic of this match was both sides ability to take scores from play with 4-20 of the Trim total coming from play and 2-8 of Moylagh scores from play. Trim had many stars on the day and the youth policy Manager Darren O’Connor is adopting seems to be the way forward for the town side. With youngsters like Colm McGrath, Patrick Lennon ,Rory McGrath, David Buckley, John Cunningham, James Foley, Shane Downes, Gareth White are all just out of the minor grade the future looks bright. Captain fantastic Darren Phelan gave a tireless display in the middle of the park and covered every blade of grass on Moylaghs fine pitch.

Senior Hurlers Davis Cup

Result Trim 0-8 Kildalkey 2-5

Trim hurlers lost to Kildalkey in the first round of the Brendan Davis knock out cup at a bitterly cold St Loman’s park on Sunday. The match was played in Arctic like conditions with a storm force wind blowing directly down into the country goals. Good hurling was near to impossible and in fairness to both sides they did not disappoint in that respect. This was a terrible match with bad striking, bad ball control and overall lacked any class.

Trim had good displays on the day from David Foley at center back, Sean McGee at wing forward, Eolann Harrington at wing back.

Trim Scorers: Damo McGee 0-5,Sean McGee 0-2 and James Toher 0-1

Trim Team: Brian Carley, Shane Downes, Colm Doyle, Kevin Higgins, Eolann Harrington, David Foley, Ciaran Joyce, Ryan Andrews, James Toher, Sean McGee, James Andrews, Colm McGrath, John Redmond, Damo McGee and Luke Moran.

Camogie Girls Start With Great Wins.

Result Trim 2-7 Killyon 1-5

Our senior camogie team recorded a fine victory over rivals Killyon in the first round of the Leinster league. The girls had an early start as the throw in was at 12 noon, in the early stages of the match both sides looked ring rusty after the winter break. Trim then took control of the match with a great goal by Emma McNally in the 17th minute, Mary Andrews took possession of the ball on the thirty yard line before flicking a lovely pass to the in rushing McNally who timed her run to perfection and buried the ball to the roof of the net giving the advancing Killyon keeper no chance. This left Trim 1-2 to 0-1 ahead and points from Lynn winters and Christine Fagan before the break gave Trim a seven point advantage at the break. At the restart Killyon put on the pressure and scored a brace of points in the third and fifth minute. A goal for Killyon in the eight minute rattled the Trim girls and left the score line reading Trim 1-5 Killyon 1-3 just two points between the sides. In fairness to the Town team the responded very well to the Killyon goal, from the puck out Sharron Hillard fielded the ball and swept a great ball up field, Lynn Winters gained possession and rushed goal wards and with very little space somehow got the ball into the Killyon net. Trim then tagged on two more points and the match finished with two points from the Killyon girls leaving a final score line of Trim 2-7 Killyon 1-5
