TRILOGYrepresents lenses made fromA New to the World Material.
Unlike many new products in our industry,
TRILOGY represents truly a new invention.
Teams of researchers and scientistshave been working on this for years.

Molecular Structure
How plastics perform isdirectly related to theirmolecular structure.
In thermoplastics the chains areindependent of each other, andcan flow freely. Therefore, thematerial can be reformed (likepolycarbonate)
In thermosets cross-links arecreated during polymerizationresulting in a complex, interconnected and permanentnetwork. (like CR-39)
TRILOGY
is the first
optical material to combinethe best of both structures.
These unique materialcharacteristics makeTrilogy ideal for rimless frames.

Summary ofHigh Mass Test
Important to remember that onlyTRILOGY orPolycarbonate standany chance of passing thisextremely severe test.
Other lenses such asM
id-Index,High-Index, Hard Resin,
completely disintegrate uponimpact.
Trilogy and Polycarbonate set thestandard for how lenses need toperform where impact protection isdesired. Rather than beingcompetitive products, they arecomplimentary.

Integral Part of the Rimless FrameNever before has the lens everbeen required to become such anintegral part of the structuralintegrity of the frame.
The lens must provide strengthat all drill points.
The lens must provide excellentstress characteristics andstructural integrity
The lens must provide chemicalresistance to both industrial andeveryday household chemicals.
The lens must compliment andenhance all the design aspectsof the frame.

CR-39 is not the best choicefor Rimless frames, due tostructural integrity. Difficultto drill without cracking, anddoes not correlate well tothe high strength required ofrimless frames. CR-39
lenses in rimless framesoften crack in the field.

Although a popular choice due tohigh strength and low weight, polyhas many field problems due tohigh stress and poor chemicalresistance. The exposure ofuncoated polycarbonate on theedge of the lens and around themounting screws leads to frequentlens failures due to cleaning, contact with household chemicals, and even cosmetics.

Overall Conclusion withCurrent Materials

Billy Brock
Traditional lens materials do notperform well in rimless frames.
This prevents many dispensers fromoffering the same warranty for
rimless eyewear as they do for othereyewear.
When current products fail in thefield, it creates ill-will towardsthese premium products whichour industry cannot afford.
This is holding back the growth of therimless category despite its obviousadvantages and tremendous consumerappeal.

Stress comparisonStress comparison between
polycarbonate and Trilogy lenses bothmounted into rimless frames
Polycarbonate TRILOGY
Absence of stress in Trilogy lens insuresthat the lens will not break at mounting
points and results in long life in the field.
Notice increased general stressthroughout the polycarbonate lens andspecifically at the mounting drill points.
This may result in breakage, particularly when exposed to everyday
solvents or cleaners.

TRILOGY can be surfaced to a 1.0mm CT , resulting in a thinnerfinished lens than 1.67. Consult your Lab for their minimum center thicknesses.
Some Labs will not surface 1.67 under2.0mm in rimless drill mounts
Even at 1.0mm, Trilogy has superior impact resistance
