BARAMULLA, June 16:Director General of PolicePrisons, J&K,
SP Vaid todaypaid a surprise visit to DistrictJail, Baramulla and
took stock ofvarious security and administra-tive arrangements of
the Jail.
Vaid was accompanied byDIG Prisons, Dr Mohd SultanLone, DIG NKR,
Uttam Chand,SSP Baramulla, ImtiyazHussain, Superintendent at
Jail,Baramulla, Mushtaq AhmadMalla and other officers.
After taking over the chargeof Director General of
policePrisons, J&K, this was first visitof the SP Vaid. During
the visit,Vaid took stock of various secu-rity and administrative
arrange-ments of the Jail besides needs
of repair and renovation. He alsoinspected the working of
CCTVcameras installed for securitypurposes, having round theclock
operational monitoring.
Later, the DG visited all thebarracks of the Jail, Jail
hospitaland vocational centre. Whileinteracting with prisoners,
theDG enquired about the facilitiesbeing provided to inmates
espe-cially food and medical facilitiesand listened to their issues
andgrievances.
The DG also directed thetechnical team to repair and ren-ovate
the kitchen of prisoners'barracks and directedSuperintendent at
Jail,Baramulla, for arranging interestbased vocational courses
forengaging Jail inmates.

JAMMU, June 16: J&KAcademy of Art, Culture andLanguages
(JKAACL) in col-laboration with DuggarSanskriti Sangam,
Batehratoday showcased the mostspectacular folk form knownas
'Raahde'.
This is a month long activi-ty which commenced today inthe
premises of the J&KAcademy of Art, Culture andLanguages,
Jammu.
The festival starts on 1stAshaad and culminates on 1stof Sharwan
every year. Thewomen especially young andnewly wedded girls sow
Kharifseeds of different varieties inthe terracotta of pitcher
necksof different sizes in the court-yard of their house or on
therooftop.
They also decorate these'Raahde' with natural drycolours made of
soft stones ofdifferent colour, charcoal,green leaves, red and
yellowflowers. On the 1st of Shawna
the festival culminated withbig celebrations called asBadda Rutt
on the banks ofwater bodies where the womengathered, sing folk
songs relat-ed with the festival and havefeast together.
Earlier welcoming the gath-ering of students and parents,Dr
Arvinder Singh Amn, high-lighted the importance of thecultural
values to the new gen-eration. He further said that theprogramme
has been organizedto make aware the youth abouttheir rich cultural
heritage.
On the occasion, Dr DhainSingh, an Icon of Dogri litera-ture and
is considered to be amain source of keeping thisfestival alive,
delivered adetailed and an informativelecture about the Raahde.

environment con-cluded today at GovernmentDegree College (GDC),
Kargil.
In this connection, a paintingcompetition was held on June
13where 50 students of BG I, IIand III year participated. Amongthem

Ist, 2ndand 3rd by a panel of threeJudges.
Further an awareness pro-gram was organized today bythe College

Residents express concern overestablishing of Rehari market

JAMMU, June 16: Resentingagainst Jammu MunicipalCorporation’s
(JMC) unilateralmove to establish a RehriMarket along the Gandhi
NagarMain Road opposite St Mary’sGarrison Church, the local
resi-dents of A-Block comprisingHouse Nos. 1 to 80 registeredtheir
strong protest by submit-ting a memorandum to JMCCommissioner,
Mandeep Kaurdemanding immediate rescind-ing of the orders regarding
theproposed market.
While calling on JMCCommissioner, the residents’deputation
raised apprehensionthat with the setting up of thismarket, the
residents shall beforced to face hardships includ-ing nuisance,
solid waste pollu-tion, traffic hazard and threat to
security of the nearby housesagainst thefts etc. “We arealready
suffering a lot becauseof limited parking space in frontof our
houses. This move issurely going to clog our lanesand streets a
step further”, thedeputation rued.

Medical employees’ deputation meets Bali Bhagat

JAMMU, June 16: A deputa-tion of JK Medical Employees’Federation
today met Ministerfor Health and MedicalEducation Minister,
BaliBhagat, at Srinagar andappealed him that theGovernment order
dated 16-10-2014 which accords sanction tocounting of past service
ren-dered by the employees prior totheir regularization, be
imple-mented in letter and spirit.
The deputation was led byRajiv Sharma, MLA Akhnoorand Dharminder
Singh, presi-dent, JK Employees’ Federation.
The deputation apprised theMinister of their sufferingscaused
due to non-implementa-tion of the said order.
Meanwhile, the deputationalso met Dr Baldev Sharma,Director,
Family Welfare, inSrinagar and urged him torelease pending salary
of lastseven months of employeesunder 2211 head. Besides,
thedeputation also requested theDirector, to solve their
problemspermanently.

JKSAC condemns Bukhari for misleading Assembly Excelsior

JAMMU, June 16: TheJammu Kashmir SharnarthiAction Committee
(JKSAC) hasstrongly condemned the StateRelief and
RehabilitationMinister Basharat Bhukhari formisleading the House
regardingthe settlement issues of DP's of1947 from PoK and termed
hisstatement as readymade and fab-ricated prepared by people
hav-ing negative mindset in theadministration.
While expressing his resent-ment over the statement given
inresponse to a question raised by amember, JKSAC presidentGurdev
Singh said that Ministershould know that no registrationregarding
the total number offamilies and their loss of life andproperties,
who left Pok in 1947have been made till date neitherby State Govt
nor by Govt ofIndia on the plea that if done sothe Central Govt
will lose itsclaim over PoK in internationalforums.
The only formal registrationof 31,619 families, viz-a-viz22,719
allotted land, 5300 fami-lies settled outside the State,3600
families allotted plots/quar-ters was made for the purpose
ofex-gratia relief provided by GoIin 1960-62. A large chunk of9500
families were rejected oncertain flimsy grounds for ex-gratia
relief and later on consid-ered in August 2000 packagesanctioned
for compensation inlieu of having deficiency in landallotted. He
added that it is total-ly unjustified and illegal to com-pensate
uniformly to DP's havingdeficiency in land and fix rate Rs
5000/Kanal with a ceiling to Rs25,000 and again enhance rate
toRs 30,000/Kanal with a ceiling toRs 1.5 lakhs which exist
nowhereeven at borders where bullets areexchanged everyday.
He further said that as perGovt report submitted to
aParliamentary Committee in1978, 27,00,000 Kanal of EPland was
available in State viz-a-viz 15,26,854 Kanal in Jammuregion and
approximately12,00,000 Kanal in Kashmirregion. Out of this land
only6,80,850 Kanal of EP land wasallotted to DP's of 1947, 1965and
1971 and 46,466 Kanal wasallotted to West Pakistan refugeessettled
in Jammu where the restof the land has gone the Govt isonly
answerable.
He contradicted the asser-tion of the minister and said theDP's
have been allotted land 4acres of `Aabi' or 6 acre`Khushki'
irrespective of theirfamily strength. The fact is thatthe DP's were
allotted land as perthe Govt order No. 254-C and570-C @ 2 acres to
4 acres Abi or3 acres to 6 acres Khushki as perthe strength of
their family mem-bers.
He said that the cost of landallotted to DP's was deducted @Rs
2500 uniformly out of ex-gra-tia relied of Rs 3500 provided byGoI
in 1962 and only Rs 1000was paid to them. There are morethan 8,000
families having defi-ciency in land allotted, the StateGovt is
urged upon to ascertainthe total strength of families hav-ing
deficiency. He urged the min-ister to study the case carefullyand
then reply in the House.
3 injured in road mishapsExcelsior Correspondent
POONCH/ UDHAMPUR, June 16: Three persons were injuredin two
separate road mishaps in Poonch and Udhampur areas today.
A report from Poonch said that two persons including
driverreceived injuries when a Tata mobile vehicle carrying
vegetablesfrom Shopian area to Surankote met with an accident on
MughalRoad this afternoon. Both the injured were provided first aid
at Armyunit hospital at Pir ki Gali and were then shifted to
Shopian hospital.
Another report from Udhampur said that one person was
injuredwhen he was hit by a scooty at Udhampur town this afternoon.
Themishap took place when 50-year-old Suresh Kumar, resident of
PainBilla near Udhampur was moving along the road near RamnagarRoad
chowk. He was rushed to District Hospital Udhampur wheredoctors
provided preliminary treatment and then referred him toGMC &
Hospital, Jammu. The police has registered a case in
thisconnection.

Packaged Commodities Rulesin the interest of consumers,
theDepartment of Legal MetrologyJammu booked Glaxo SmithKline, a
Gurgaon based nationalcompany engaged in manufactur-ing of
consumers goods for notdeclaring net weight on the pre-packed
commodities of ENO.
It is mandatory under law thatall the declarations like MRP,PKD,
Net Weight, address of themanufacturer along with con-sumer
helpline numbers and iden-tity of the commodity should be
legibly and conspicuouslydeclared on the packages forinformation
of the consumers.
Earlier, during an inspectionto Best Price, it was found
thatlarge number of such packageswere displayed for sale
withoutmarking net contents and samewere seized. A notice was
alsoissued to the management of thecompany under relevant
Sectionswhich in turn through their legalcounsel assured for
rectificationin future and pleaded for closureof the case and same
was com-pounded for Rs. 1lakh making allthe directors responsible
foromission under Section 49 (1) ofthe Act.
CEO reviews measures fordisaster management

JAMMU, June 16: In order toreview the preparedness of menand
machinery to efficiently dealwith natural disasters
especiallyduring the ensuing monsoon sea-son, Chief Executive
OfficerDistrict Disaster ManagementAuthority (DDMA), ArunManhas
convened a meeting ofofficers of all concerned depart-ments here
today.
During the meeting, the CEOwas apprised of the disaster
proneareas of the district and the meas-ures being taken to alert,
mitigateand save precious lives duringnatural calamities. The
seniorofficers were asked to chalk outeffective strategies to
combat thesituation arising due to naturaldisasters.
The CEO directed the SDMsto ensure that the schools undertheir
jurisdiction must conductmock drills in the campuses sothat the
students can save them-selves during natural disasters.
"Every department will haveits own Standard OperatingProcedures
(SOP) and inventoryto deal with these disasters which
would be uploaded on their offi-cial websites idrn.gov.in,"
theCEO said, adding that a LiaisonOfficer would be deputed forclose
coordination among variousstakeholders at the time of
emer-gency.
The CEO directed the con-cerned officers to identify theplaces
to be utilized for accom-modating the rescued people. Healso asked
for providing all basicfacilities at these places includingmedical,
drinking water, sanita-tion and power supply.
Similar directions were givento all the concerned departmentsso
that proper mechanism wouldbe put in place to deal with
anyemergency.
