The concept

• The installation piece is an expansive quilt with some squares as screen-printed, embroidered, or silk-screened photos of either the story-tellers or some symbolic relic that represents the story

• The quilt evokes the solidarity and sense of community that was brought about by the events of 9-11

• Each photo square will be accompanied by an embroidered phrase or sentence representing the story it tells

• Pressing on a square will activate audio via pressure sensor, sending the audio to a “telephone” style cup on a wire, recalling the children’s messaging system of dixie-cup + string telephone

• Three such “telephones” will service the quilt, each spatially confined to a third of the space occupied by the quilt; this serves to:

– limit the number of individuals in the space– allow more than one user to experience the exhibit simultaneously– maintain the respectful and tranquil quality of the space for reflection
