Inside this Issue

We know that the Maryland State Fair is making plans for the fair, but the

format is still unknown as to what is going to happen this year. We hope

to have a better idea of the fair format by the middle of July. Make sure

you complete your Maryland 4-H State fair entries by July 31st

at www.marylandstatefair.com. At this time, entries are not open, but

we will communicate with families once they do open.

Maryland State

We appreciate that everyone is hanging in there with us as we await the

reopening of the Carroll County 4-H Program. At this point in time there

are NO in-person 4-H programs through July 31st. Maryland 4-H is

allowing for a small reopening of some 4-H programming beginning on

August 1st, this will be very limited to groups of 10 people or less. All

activities that wish to meet in person will have to go through an approval

process. The Carroll County 4-H program is awaiting to see the directives

we need to follow and will share those out when available.

Since the Carroll County 4-H Program is following the guidelines from

Maryland 4-H, we cannot endorse 4-H participation at this year’s Carroll

County 4-H and FFA Fair, Inc. As you are aware the fair is moving forward

with “Youth Shows/Exhibits” not “4-H Shows/Exhibits”. Know that

participation in this year’s CC 4-H and FFA Fair, Inc. will be done on a

individual basis. We ask that families take time to have discussions

within your family on what this means. We hope you think about your

family’s health and safety, you will be participating as individuals and not

4-H members.

As a reminder, the Carroll County Extension Office will be closed until

further notice. We will announce when we are back at the office. The

Extension Office will also be closed the week of the CC 4-H and FFA Fair,

Inc. Youth Show. Throughout this time, educators and staff are

teleworking. If you do have questions, please feel free to reach out to us

4-H All-Stars are Celebrating 100 Years!

Animal Quality Assurance Program

If you are a new member or have moved to a new age group (Junior to Intermediate, Intermediate to

Senior), you are required to take the online Quality Assurance Program this year. The online program is

required for ALL 4-H members with beef, dairy, swine, sheep, goats, horses/ponies, poultry, rabbits

any 4-H show. If you have questions, please contact Becky at [email protected]. Quality Assurance

must be completed by Friday, July 24th to be eligible to show at the Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair,

Inc. The program can be found at: https://ahqa.umd.edu/ Make sure you are using Firefox, Google

Chrome or Safari to complete the program. It will not work correctly with Internet Explorer.

It's more important than ever to be marketing your 4-H projects. Whether it's a woodworking project,

baked goods or livestock, we can all learn more on reaching potential buyers. Learn more through the "4-

H Marketing Magic" series. You will find four videos featuring topics on: Marketing your 4-H Project,

Advertising your 4-H Project, Building 4-H Client/Buyer Relationships and 4-H Mini Newsletters. These

videos can be found at: https://extension.umd.edu/carroll-county/4-h-youth/animal-programs

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Maryland 4-H All Stars, please take a moment to reflect on your 4-H career and remember all those people who touched your life in some special way. Consider the following:

· Who led you to the 4-H program?

· Who always said, “I’ll be glad to,” when asked to help?

· Who was an inspiration or role-model during your 4-H career?

· Who brought you into the All Stars chapter during your initiation?

Each of us can likely name multiple people who have made a difference in our lives. Let’s make an effort to tell them how much they have meant to us! To honor and remember those people, we are compiling a commemorative booklet as part of our 100th anniversary celebration. Take a moment and ask yourself, “Who do I need to thank or honor?”

The recognitions will be compiled and presented in a booklet that will be distributed at the 2021 Mary-

land 4-H All Stars Annual Conference. To download the form and submit your recognitions, please go

Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair, Inc.

“The 2020 Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair, Inc. is not an officially-sanctioned or supported event of Carroll County 4-H or the University of Maryland Extension 4-H Youth Development Program. The 4-H program assumes no legal or operational responsibility for this youth show."

Everyone is welcome to participate in Fair Board meetings held at the Extension Office. The next meeting date will be announced in the near future.

Too Many Ribbons or Trophies? Don’t throw them away! Bring them to the Extension Office or to a Fair

Children’s Day at the Fair– The committee is glad that our Carroll County youth still have an opportunity

to participate in this year's youth fair to showcase their projects; however, with the fair not being open to

the public, we are unable to hold Children's Day. Thank you to the clubs who were considering the

opportunity to support this annual event. We look forward to hosting Children's Day again at the 2021

Carroll County 4-H/FFA Fair and having clubs participate.

Diamond Clover Projects

Hello Carroll County 4-Her's!

My name is Payton Steele and I am currently working on my Level 6 Diamond Clover Project to provide adaptive agricultural education to children with special needs. For increased safety, I am creating a virtual farm “field trip”. I am looking for 4-Hers to create a video about one of their projects, preferably agricultural-based (gardening, ag commodities, natural resources, livestock, poultry, rabbits, etc.) but it can be any 4-H project, to include in the field trip. However, you are welcome to make more than one video as this is a great chance to get your demonstration/public speaking practice in! As well, this is a great opportunity to earn community service hours while staying safe at home! In the google drive, there is a script and guidelines to follow.

When the video is completed, you can insert it in this google drive: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1tRV3vExB35opJwDL1zOMeJWAp7UnaVPP

Please know that not all videos may be used due to limited space/duplicate projects. Submit the videos no later than July 20th.

Contact me at [email protected] for any questions and I hope to see your videos soon!

Rabbit Department Update- For the 2020 Carroll County 4-H and FFA Fair, Inc., there will be no entries

accepted this year due to the COVID-19 and RHDV2 Rabbit Virus, which is very contagious. Even though

RHDV2 can be found in the southwest part of the country right now, we do not know when it might

spread to the east. Our highest priority is to keep our 4-H members and their rabbits safe. Therefore, if

you would like to participate in a Rabbit Showcase, you can send a picture and short paragraph (how long

you have raised rabbits, breeds you raise, fun facts, favorite thing about rabbits, etc.) about your rabbit

project to Becky Ridgeway ([email protected]) and the Extension Office will highlight your project

through social media. Please send pictures and information by July 31st to be featured.
