Let’s face it, you’re busy. You barely havetime to shop, much less to figure out what towear. So when you end up spending 45 min-utes or more in your closet, only to wind upfeeling desperate and frumpy, you knowsomething’s got to give. And that something,my dear, is your wardrobe.

(1) Discover Your Assets

And AttributesKnowing yourself goes a long way inknowing what to wear. Instead of com-paring yourself to a friend or allowing awell-meaning (but misinformed) salesassociate to guide you, discover what youhave to work with and learn to play it tothe hilt. When you understand your personal coloring, your body image andyour personal style, you’ll unlock thekeys that will lead you to clothing andaccessories that play up what you loveabout yourself – making you look fabulous!

(2) Clean Out Your Closet

Most women are wearing only 10-20percent of what’s in their closet. Whatthis means is that they have to wadethrough heaps of clothing that doesn’tfit, flatter or make them feel good. Whenyou look in your closet and aren’t sure ifsomething fits, or if you even like it anymore, it can take way too much time toget dressed. Simplify your wardrobe andensure you have only items that you canwear right now and that you love to wearand you’ll shave minutes – not to mention stress–off your morning routine. (919) 787.4534

(3) Create A

Wardrobe StrategyAfter taking stock of your wardrobe, takesome time to determine what’s missing.Where are the holes in your wardrobe, andwhat do you need to bring in to make yourclothes work for you rather than against you.Knowing what you have, what you need, andexactly how it’s all going to work for you overthe next few days, months, years, etceterawill go a long way in helping you create awardrobe you’ll love and ensuring that you’llalways have something to wear.

(4) Create Clothing Capsules

Start with a half dozen to a dozen items andlay them out on your bed. Make as many out-fits as possible with them, including shoes

and accessories. This is where focusing onone or two core colors and two to threeaccent colors translates to less is more. Fewercolors mean more things will go together andwill result in more outfits.

(5) Create a Lookbook

I do this for my clients to give them a quickreference guide that helps make gettingdressed in a flash easy-peasy. It's a no brainerwhen you can look up your outfit (includingshoes and accessories) and know exactlywhat to wear to knock 'em dead whether in ameeting or the carpool lane. Simply makeoutfits that are new to you, take pictures andprint them out. This is a quick referenceguide that gives you some direction on thosedays when you’re really pressed for time.

My propri-etary StyleFinder™ System will help you topinpoint what your style is and know exactlywhat to wear for you. This can help you zeroin on what’s a good fit and what you shouldskip altogether.

(7)Go Shopping

Make your list, have a plan, and go alone.Buy only what's on your list and only if itmeets these criteria:

• The item fits me very well, or I caneasily have it altered (and am sure I will)

• The item goes with at least three items I already own

• The item is well made of quality fabric

White on white. Why not? This year, fashion's latesttrend will be all about black and white ensembles. Simple. Classic. Fresh. You can't really go wrong here.Black has a slimming effect, while white offers a cleanpalette. When trying to slim down certain portions of the body, remember to always stay away from horizontal stripes. Instead go for color blocking. Maybea white blouse and cropped black coat with whiteslacks? Black stilettos sealing the deal. A white coatthrown over well fitted jeans or a little black dress, willhave the same effect. When playing with proportions, make sure everything is fitting your body correctly. Ifthe coat or jacket is loose, swingy or long, make surethe other pieces you choose to wear are a bit moresnug. Never wear all of your pieces on the baggy side atthe same time, this will look sloppy. Instead play with proportions. Tight versus loose can go a long way. And don't forget about accessories, from your heels toyour clutch and the jewelry in between. Since black and

white is such an easy paletteto work with, adding insparkly studs or danglingearrings is a piece of cake. Also, eye engaging jewelsand chunky statement neck-laces are also making a comeback.

WHY I LOVE THIS OUTFIT...Any time I get the chance to wear these boots, I take it.I liked the idea of wearing them with a thigh grazingcoat. The palette was all about white this time. Skinnyjeans in a light wash and black accents finished thelook. The chunky choker necklace is reminiscent ofMadonna's eighties hey days. Wearing it with classicpieces makes it chic again. The glittering orbs danglingfrom my ears could easily become the focal point. I'ma fan of how they're both gold and silver all at once.Great for a cocktail dress and gala attire, too. The finaltouches being my slouchy black leather Balenciaga bagand lips that pop in red MAC lipstick. Voila!

I like to think Miranda Kerr inspired my look. Subconsciously or consciously, she has a way of taking classic pieces and mixing them with a fewunexpected twists. Always chic, but also thoughtprovoking. I just wish I had her salary (and closet!)Then, it would really be easy to dress for everysoiree, event and rendezvous with the girls! Thepanda stripes on this jacket mirrored the skirt andboots perfectly. I like how indoors, I can remove myjacket and still look pulled together. Every girl needsa little white blouse in her wardrobe. Fit is key. Andhow can you go wrong with a leather mini skirt? I would normally pair this short skirt with blackpumps or heels of some sort. I wanted to completelyeliminate the box by choosing suede ankle boots ina neutral beige color. What's the fun of dressing up,if you can't keep the masses guessing? My dream isto one day be able to dress and style the stars. As long as I can have access to the dream inducingdesigners and the most coveted pieces and accessories, I could vicariously live with playingdress up through my clients. Never give up on yourdreams or your passions. If you can dream it, youcan do it! Rachel Zoe is a prime candidate. Shestarted her career as an intern for Seventeen magazine. Now, she has the privilege of stylingsome of the most recognizable celebrities. I startedstyling in my closet, later creating my fashion blog(www.fashionchalet.net) and hope to one day jumpto bigger and brighter styling opportunities.

WHY I LOVE THIS OUTFIT...It's always exciting when the weather warms upenough to bare some leg. Yet, if it's still a bit toochilly for you, but you still dare to bare... layers willalways work in your favor. A snug button up, tuckedinto this leather mini skirt did just the trick. Foradded warmth, this fuzzy jacket kept me cozy. Thebeige suede ankle booties were the final touch. I would wear this look running around New York attending the many different Fashion Shows at theLincoln Center. It's always a plus to find shoes witha heel that I can actually run in, not to mention, actually walk around in.

She's the hostess with the mostess on NBC's hit reality show “Biggest Loser” and the unpredictable blond bombshell, Sami, on long running soap Days of Our Lives. Juggling two hit television shows and

motherhood would take it's toll on any woman, but Alison Sweeney handlesherself with grace and poise and looks amazing doing it all. She even has a

new book “The Mommy Diet”, that focuses on helping women before, during and after pregnancy to form a healthy mind and body. This lady does

it all! So what is her secret? We caught up with this mega-mom for a fewbeauty tips, style secrets and what is coming up next for Alison Sweeney.

Right off the bat, you look amazing! What are a few of

your beauty secrets and do youhave any “can't live without”

products? My top beauty secrets are to always wearsunscreen, drink lots of water and get plentyof sleep. These days I can't live without myAquaphor. My lips are so chapped because ofthe dry winter atmosphere; I have to constantly reapply!

How would you describe your style?

I love having fun with different looks. Thefun things about playing Sami on Days of ourLives are all the outfits I've worn over 20years (fashion really has changed). And onThe Biggest Loser, I love to get dressed upand celebrate the accomplishments of thecontestants each week during weigh-ins.When I'm not working, you'll usually find mein a pair of jeans, a sparkly top, and a pair ofcomfortable flats.

Keeping up with kids andworking overtime has to take its

toll on you. Could you share a little advice about keeping it

“together” and looking great? Well thank you. None of us working momshave it easy, but I try to do the best I canevery day. I don't get caught up in all that I have [on my plate] for a month, just fortoday and tomorrow. That helps me to focuson giving 100 percent to whatever I'm doingin the moment – both when home with myfamily and when at work. But as exhaustingas it can be, that's why it's so important forme to keep up with my nutrition. Beinghealthy allows me to be there for everyoneelse in my life.

Given the impact and influence ofThe Biggest Loser, how do youfeel about the show taking on

child obesity this season? It's obviously such an important issue for ourcountry and for the world. On a personallevel, I see kids all the time who are struggling with obesity and I think it's soimportant to start talking about it and reallyfigure out what we can do as a communityand a society to heal our kids.

Since you are celebrating 20years on Days of our Lives, what

has it been like to work in theshrinking soap opera world, and at the same time in the

expanding market of reality TV?You know, it's tough. I'm not going to lie, it'shard to say goodbye to shows that have beenon the air for so long and I have such loyalfans that I can only imagine what it's like forthe fans of the shows that have had to say

goodbye. These are characters that you haveseen for sometimes over forty years – andthey feel like family. But for us at Days, wehave really embraced the challenge: tried tostay relevant and current, and give our fans areason to keep watching and the network areason to keep re-signing us. We hope tokeep fighting, and keep entertaining ouraudience for a long time to come. So, we'relooking at it like a challenge and we hope tokeep going.

You wear so “many hats” on adaily basis. Why do you like to

stay so busy and have your fingers in so “many pies”?

That's a great question because it's true; I doa lot of different stuff. Most recently I'vestarted directing at Days and that's brought anew level of expectation for me, creatively. I think that's the answer – I love being busyand trying all these new things! It just keepsme going creatively and always challengesme. It's something new and different and

exciting. I think that there's something reallyfulfilling about always feeling like it's a newday and it's something new and challenging tokeep me on my toes.

When you first signed on with The Biggest Loser, what were yourexpectations and how long did you

think that this gig would last?

I was a fan of the show before they approachedme to be a part of it. So I loved the idea ofgetting to host the show. I love what they do, I love the stand they're taking – we are takingon obesity. I really thought that the show hadlegs right from the beginning because it reallytouches your heart in a way just beyond eventhe issue of weight loss. It touches you in thebelief that anything is possible if you set yourmind to it, and that no matter what your adversity is, no matter what your obstacle is inlife – if you really do the work, it pays off. There's something so redeeming and inspiringabout knowing you can change that I just knewAmerica would continue to want to see thosestories again and again.

If you are like most women the thought of shopping forswimwear is almost as dreaded as a visit to the dentist. These days it doesn’t have to be. Many of thetop bra manufacturers now make swimwear in “bra sizes”. In the past if you happened to be, let’s saya size 12, you would have to somehow make your bodyfit into the same size 12 suit whether you were an A,B, C, D, or DD bra size. Who thought of that...a man?

Manufacturers are now beginning to realize thatwomen need a bathing suit that will give them sup-port the same way a good bra does. The concept that“full cup” doesn’t always mean “full figure” is finallybeing recognized. Today’s swimwear is made toactually fit and flatter all different body types.

Let’s face it, women are tired of wearing a basicblack suit because it’s the only thing they canfind that might kind of fit. When looking forswimwear, consider these things:

If you have always been a one piece woman, consider the two piece tankini which cangive you the same coverage in the tummy

area that a one piece does, but because it is two pieces you have the ability to buy a

different size top and bottom. Many of the manufacturers are now offering 2 or 3 different bottomstyles to coordinate with the tops.

BRA SIZEDSWIMWEAR!

Page 31: Triangle Style Magazine Spring Issue

One manufacturer of plus size swim is makingan actual swim bra, which is essentially the topof a two piece suit. It is made to fit and supportjust like a regular bra does, but it is made fromswimsuit fabric and has a decorative swimsuitclosure on the back band. Once you have thisswim “bra” they offer many different tankini topsto go over it. You can choose to wear it alone asthe top of a two piece, or under a tankini top. It’s ingenious…why didn’t I think of that!

Most women that face challenges infinding swimwear that actually fits,

fall into three main categories:

• THE PLUS SIZE WOMANThis is the women that I described earlier. Sheis the perfect customer for the “swim bra” concept. After finding the right fit in the swimbra, the rest is easy. Just choose the color anddesign of the tankini top that suits your taste.Decide on the bottom style you like best and youare good to go.

• THE AVERAGE SIZE WOMAN WITH A FULL”ER” CUP

These are women that you see all day long, everyday and would never realize that they

would have so much difficulty finding bras orswimwear that fit. Traditional swimsuits don’thave anything more than a “shelf bra” built intothem. That’s just NOT enough. Just as with aneveryday bra, these women need more support.Thankfully, some of the manufacturers that pro-duce bras in the smaller to average band sizeswith fuller cups have recognized that womenneed more support and have designed most oftheir swimsuits with an underwire cup just astheir actual bra has. This swimwear is beautiful, fashionable and comes in one piece, two pieceand tankini options.

• THE SMALLER FRAME WOMAN WITH A FULL “ER” CUP

She is typically a younger woman with a verysmall torso that just can’t find a swimsuit that iscute, hip, age appropriate and that she is nothanging out of. Look no further. These suitsfit and cover what is needed but they are definitely NOT granny suits! There are manystyles from tiny weeny bikini’s, to tankinis thatwill satisfy the young and the young at heart.

We ALL do it. Even though we know it's way past time to say good-bye, we hang onto that last little bit of dried up face paint untilone day, it's gone! 99.9% of all women go through this difficultbreak-up every year, but when it comes down to staying healthy, it is worth the toss.

FOUNDATIONBeginning with the base of your make-up; if your foundation contains a pump then it will last longer, but if you use your fingers to dip and apply each day, consider 6-8 months your foundations life span.Especially if you suffer from breakouts and acne, it is important to replace this type of make-up ideallyat the six month mark and no longer than eight months. Think in seasons, you are likely more pale inthe winter and spring, and a little more tan in the summer and fall – so these are easy ways to remember to replace your every 6 months.

FROM FOUNDATION TO FINGER NAIL POLISH, HERE ARE THE RULES WHEN IT COMES TO BREAKING-UP WITH YOUR MAKE-UP

THE GREATMAKE-UP BREAK-UP

TSM Makeup Expiration:TSM Beauty Myths 2/18/13 11:09 PM Page 1

Page 33: Triangle Style Magazine Spring Issue

EYE MAKE-UPOne of the most important make-up to keepfresh is eye make-up. Many pros recommendtossing liquid eyeliners and mascaras everythree months. While most of us will not follow those rules, make sure that you replaceat least every 6 months to be safe.

If you have any issues or infections of the eye, toss your eye make-up immediately, no exceptions here! Eyeshadows can last up to 4 years while pencil liners are usually goodbetween one to two years if kept stored prop-erly – extend use by sharpening your pencileach time you use it. The same rules apply forbrow pencils, which will actually keep longerthan anything you would use directly onyour eye.

POWDERS, BLUSHES AND BRONZERSAny type of face powder is good for a year orjust over as long as there is not a shiny build-up on the pressed powder and you haven'tnoticed any changes in your skin. If your pow-der starts to smell or looks different, get rid ofit! Chances are good that your powder won'tlast a year anyway, so renewing shouldn't bedifficult to remember. Bronzers and blushesare actually good for right around FOUR yearsif brushes used are clean and you keep it cov-ered properly.

NAILS AND LIPSTICKSThere is a little less to worry about when dealing with nail polish. 2 years is the averagefor these bottled beautifiers unless you get anail fungus or infection. Even if your polishstarts to separate, just shake hard to keep itusable.

Contrary to popular belief, lip products aregood for years! Any lip products from lipsticksto liners are generally good for around 2 years.Like powder, you will likely use these products up before they go bad. One rule ofthumb when it comes to lip glosses, if you useyour gloss while you have a cold, fever blisteror infection, toss it! These germs just incubate

in that little tube and grow over time into some-thing that you do not want to put on your lips.

LOTIONS AND CLEANSERSLotions and cleansers are thought by most people to be one of those products that last for-ever, but surprisingly, they are not! If you stillhave product left after six months, you shouldthrow it out. The reason behind this is thatmost of these items are water based whichmakes them more prone to bacteria growth –not something you want in a product that youuse multiple times a day!

PERFUMEAnother misconception is that perfume getsbetter with age. My mom had the same bottle ofperfume for over 15 years and would just dab ona tiny bit a day! Unfortunately, perfume hasaround 12-18 months of “prime time” use. Thanks to heat, light exposure and time, the

ingredients break-down. The best way to keepperfume fresher, longer is to store it in thefridge – this will extend the life of your fragrance and keep you cool each time you apply!

LAST, BUT NOT LEASTCommon sense rules in the end, so if yourmake-up looks or smells strange, then it's agood indication that it is time to throw it out. When in doubt, toss it out! Never ever shareeye or lip products! Make sure that you keepbrushes and sponges clean and new by using alittle dish soap and water every month.

If you are using make-up that contains anti-aging products, these will go bad fasterthan regular beauty products. The nose knows,so smell your make-up before applying to make sure it's not time to break-up with your make-up.

WHAT WAS YOUR NEW YEARS RESOLUTION AND HOW IS IT GOING SO FAR...

street style

I have become much more health consciousduring the last year, and in addition to

eating more healthily, I am also making aneffort to drink more green tea, due to the

variety of health benefits that can be gained. While my favorite teas are usually black teassuch as Earl Grey or Barry's Gold Tea, I have

come to really enjoy certain green teas as well, such as a Japanese Sencha and others. I've alsoadded more green tea and oolong selections tothe menu at The Lucky Teapot Traveling Tea

Parties, to give our customers more choices aswell as appeal to those also wishing to drink a

healthy yet flavorful tea. Other resolutionsI have made are to just live in the moment andtry and to appreciate each day and focus on the

good things in my life.

— Sonya KessmanThe Lucky Teapot

Every Year I do make a resolution both in my business and in my personal life. It starts with

one resolution and thru out the year I add more resolutions and goals I want to achieve.

This year personally I am focusing on over all good health and to be at my best.

Every New Years day I make a vision board because I need to see what good health looks like for me.

I break it down into categories; Health, Work, Travel, Family etc.

I sit with a cup of tea and I spend the day cutting outpictures of fruits, vegetables, exercising, meditation,

relationships, maybe Italy this year?

I have the vision board with my resolutions where I can look at it every day. My resolutions then just

become a part of my life, who I am and not somethingI am going to do for one year. If I am feeling goodphysically and mentally I am at my best and when

you are at your best it has to translate into your work and all other areas of your life.

It is a constant work in progress!

Typically, I don't make new year's resolutionsbut this year i did decide to make an effort tobe more environmentally friendly or "green". I am trying to be conscious of this on a dailybasis in all aspects...buying more products

that are made from recycled materials, usingless paper products around the house, taking

my own cloth bags to the grocery store insteadof using plastic ones and trying to teach mytwo boys the importance of recycling. I ameven implementing a new policy at Scout &Molly's of Cary that I feel will help a little! if

customers bring back in their Scout & Molly'sof Cary pink cloth bags to be re-used, they will

receive 10% off of their purchase! :-)

— Abby Roberts Scout and Molly’s of Cary

My New Year's style resolution was to stop stayingup all night on fashion blogs and invest in more

beauty rest. After all, I need my wits about me inthe fast paced world of designer resale!

Also, wear less cat hair. My resolution is currentlyon hold for Fashion Week(s). And cat hair?

That's a new trend, right?

— Chandler Mills Nora and Nicky’s

After many years of failed resolutions, I promisedmyself this year would be different. As if getting

healthy isn't motivation enough, I am getting married in September! Any time I've had success

in life, I have always have a structured plan. To be successful this year, I, with my fiancee sit downevery Sunday and plan our meals for the week as

well as our workouts at the gym. The key to my success is having a partner who

holds me accountable!

NEW AGE ETIQUETTESOCIAL MEDIA MANNERS FOR TODAY’S BUSY WOMAN

Watching your p’s and q’s in today’s electronic ethos can be a challenge. We’ve all seen people do somepretty unconventional things online or while using their phones. Observing proper etiquette is definedas the form or manner typically acceptable or required in society or a profession. Don’t be a MissedManners – being savvy is more than just being polite. And as the internet and other dynamic methodsof communication are constantly evolving, following are some guidelines for navigating today’s on-the-go social culture with style and grace.

Written By Kristy Stevenson

Page 57: Triangle Style Magazine Spring Issue

FACEBOOKBased on a recent survey, Facebook is the gold standard of social media. In a nutshell, it’s a socialutility that re/connects friends. Although dashboardsettings change a little too regularly for some, there’s no better way to see pictures of what yourold roommate had for lunch.

• Replying To CommentsWhen friends take the time to comment on yourposts, feel free to reply – especially if a question isasked. Acknowledgement is a great way to interactand share with your followers.

• Over SharingSome friends feel the need to update their status everyten minutes. Like you need to know the last time theywere intimate, what kind of homework they’re supposed to be doing, or enjoy pictures of their feet.We all do this from time to time, but the over sharergoes into too much detail and it becomes mundane.Rather share something interesting about yourself oryour week.

• Friending/UnfriendingConnecting with current and long-lost friends, familyand colleagues is a wonderful thing. But if the oversharer becomes too much, it’s okay to prune your list.If you can’t in good conscience make a public break, simply hide them from your newsfeed.

• VentingNever talk smack about your job online. Even with themost stringent privacy settings, there’s always the riskthat your post will reach the wrong eyes and ears.Although everyone is entitled to their opinion, flam-ing others is also a bad move and very unprofessional.Cool off before saying something in haste that will liveon the internet forever.

• MessagingYou know the old saying ‘the walls have ears’? Thesame can be said for your Facebook wall. If you intendto share particulars of a meeting date and time, orother personal info that needs to remain private, optfor a message versus public post. Friends on both sidesof the details will thank you.

EMAILToday’s email messaging exceeds telephone trafficand is the dominant form of business communica-tion. Some spend a large portion of their day sortingthrough new posts, however, so be considerate andevaluate the necessity of your exchange before hit-ting the Send key.

• Standard Formatting Assists Your ReaderThe subject field should always indicate content andpurpose using sentence case. Don't write "Hi!" or"Stuff from Ben." A meaningless subject will not helpthe reader categorize or follow up on your query. ANDUSING ALL CAPS LOOKS AS THOUGH YOU’RESHOUTING. Include a signature line with your con-tact information to ensure a timely reply.

• Keep It BriefUse proper grammar and get to the point. Concentrateon one subject per message whenever possible. Andalways summarize long discussions or message strings(but don’t change the original author’s wording orpunctuation … that’s how “Let’s eat, Grandma,”became “Let’s eat Grandma.”)

• Watch Your ToneEmail communication cannot convey verbal nuancessuch as sarcasm. Unless your audience knows youwell, avoid difficult expressions. Some use emoticonsto infer tone of voice – but do so sparingly so as not toappear goofy or unprofessional. A smiley will neverdiffuse a difficult construct.

• Don’t Be An Inbox CloggerGroup emails: If the topic of an original messagechanges, create a new email instead of replying to theone that was sent to everyone, thereby avoiding a re-send to individuals who no longer are involved in thechain. Trim the message to only pertinent data, andlimit the use of Reply All unless necessary.

• Not An Excuse To Avoid Personal ContactNever underestimate the value of face-to-face com-munication; email is not always appropriate. Speakingwith people directly can sometimes be the most effi-cient way to resolve a situation.

CELL PHONESAlthough one of the most modern conveniencesto date, cell phones can invade dinner tables, classrooms and even bedrooms. Consumersbombarded by calls and texts – from those theyknow as well as solicitations from those theydon’t – are learning to establish boundaries.

• Give Yourself Some SpaceTo ensure your privacy and everyone else’s, try toestablish a 10 foot parameter from crowds whenchatting on your phone. This is especially true inenclosed spaces where your voice carries.

• Keep It DownVoices escalate when we’re excited or angry, soremember not to talk too loudly during a call. Andnever put your phone on speaker in a publicvenue.

• Learn To TextTexting is a great option when you are unable toanswer a call. Use the vibrate feature rather thanan audible alert, never send while walking or driving, and limit use during gatherings for workor play.

Multi-Tasking Not Always a Good IdeaAlthough texting can be quick and dirty, it’s neversmart to do it while simultaneously interactingwith people or events. Major pet peeves includeusing your phone in a movie theater, during dinner, in hospitals or on planes.

• Quick FixMany mobile devices include a side button thatwill immediately silence all ring tones. If you accidentally leave the ringer on in an inappropri-ate situation and calls come in, flip that switch asquickly as possible.

TEXT MESSAGINGTexting is the most informal form of communi-cating and should only be used for short bursts. It’s recommended that you think of texts aspreludes or follow ups to actual conversations

– not the conversations, themselves.

• Identify YourselfIf you reach out to someone who doesn’t alreadyhave your number, open by saying who you are.

This is especially important with colleagues andbusiness associates; it avoids confusion and makesyou look more professional.

• Confirm It!Got plans? Send a quick text to confirm or providelast minute details. If you’re going to need morethan 160 characters or are pressed for time, however,it’s always better to call. Offers to create or end relationships (business or personal) should neverbe done by text.

• Don’t Leave Me HangingVolleying notes back and forth supposes that aquick response is expected. If you go silent for anextended period of time without warning, thattends to rub people the wrong way. Be courteous ofthe person left hanging. If your reply will take additional time, pick up the phone.

• Like Email…It’s surprisingly easy for your tone to be misinter-preted. You’re not writing the great Americannovel. Quick and to the point is all you need.

• Unlike Email…Never text after bedtime. If your recipient forgets toturn their ringer off before turning in, you maywake someone up at a crazy hour when their phonealerts them of a new message. Try explaining thatone to your boss!

There is, of course, no such thing as concrete regulations for spontaneous social interactionsbecause communication – and its rules – are alwaysin a state of flux. The excitement of upgrades will inturn necessitate a new way of doing things. Weadapt, as do our expectations and manners alongthe way.

The marvel of what electronics can do shouldalways be tempered with respect for the damagethey can cause if not used properly. The rule ofthumb is: if you don’t want someone to see or hearwhat you have to say, don’t say it. Find the right balance, though, and these tools can make you bothefficient and adept at managing your weekday toweekend with ease.

Don’t Let BadThings Happen ToYour Good Name

STOP IDENTITY THEFT:

Written By Audrey D. Mark

TSM Identitytheft:TSM Beauty Myths 2/19/13 2:25 PM Page 1

Page 63: Triangle Style Magazine Spring Issue

Imitation may indeed be the sincerest form offlattery - but when it comes to identity theft, it'sa flat out crime! With just the smallest amountof basic information, a crook can do bad things, all in your good name. We leave paper trails anddigital droppings everywhere we go, so even ifyour purse has never left your person, a thiefcan easily find ways to fraudulently order mer-chandise, open credit cards, operate a vehicle, even “own” a new home, all while impersonat-ing you. What is most frightening is that itcould be going on for years before you ever findout about it - and then it can take even longer toget it straightened out.

Tell tale signs that you may be one of the ninemillion Americans facing an identity crisis ofyour own include getting confusing calls fromcreditors and debt collectors about accountsyou've never heard of or being unexpectedlyturned down for a loan or line of credit forwhich you should easily qualify. Perhaps oddcredit cards or items that you didn't order startshowing up at your door or you find that yourpersonal checks are inexplicably being declinedin stores that you've shopped at for years.

Identity fraud can be frustrating and far-reaching, especially today when anythingother than a perfectly clean credit reportcan mean higher interest rates, loweredcredit lines, even the loss of a potential job.But don't despair! While nothing is fool-proof, there are several ways to deter eventhe most determined criminals and to helpsafeguard your personal security if you justtake a few precautions.

HOME SAFE HOME:• Don't let your trash become an identitythief's treasure. Use a crosscut shredder tosystematically destroy everything you throwout that has any of your personal informa-tion on it. Be sure to shred all of your discarded bank statements, credit card billsand offers, utility bills, old receipts, computer disks and boarding passes. All unopened junk mail should also be

shredded, because it may contain sensitiveinformation about you that you didn't knowwas in there.

• Don't leave a special delivery for a would-be crook. Even in the safest neighborhoods, avoid leaving your mail in an unlocked mail-box for an extended period of time. Mailcontaining checks can easily be stolen andtampered with and your bills can reveal a lotof private information that could be misused.Consider dropping your outbound mail off atan official USPS box, instead of leaving it outfront waving a red flag. Sorry, but you didn't win any foreign lottery;that chain letter won't bring you riches, andyou can be of no help to that mysteriousNigerian dignitary - so please don't respond tothose emails. Keep your Top-Secret secrets secret. Be surethat all of your computers at home, and atwork, are protected with up-to-date antivirusprograms, spyware scanners and formidablefirewall security. Password protect any com-puters that can be accessed by others, andchange this password often. Avoid easy-to-fig-ure–out codes: such as your pet's name; yourmiddle name; your mother's maiden name; orother easy-to-decipher things and numbers(like your birthday). For maximum security, use a combination of upper and lower case let-ters, numbers, and shift key characters. Don'tstore these passwords any where on or nearbyyour computer, especially if it is connected tothe Internet.

What happens at the library - doesn't alwaysstay at the library. • Spread yourself a little thin - by carryingyour ID in different locations. This way ifyour purse or wallet is stolen, they won't geteverything. Avoid carrying your checkbookand NEVER have your checks printed withyour social security number on them!

• Be a copycat and make a photocopy of theentire contents of your wallet - front and back. It's a quick and easy way to have a list of all ofyour credit cards, phone numbers and IDcards, just in case they go missing. Keep thisin a safe place at home and make sure that youmake copies of any new cards as you get them.If you're traveling, you may want to leave acopy securely stored with a responsible friendor relative.

• You asked for it! Help prevent identitytheft by simply signing the back of your cred-it cards with “Ask for ID”! This minor incon-venience can help prevent a major catastro-phe. And don't forget to be supportive of allthose cashiers who insist on asking for it!

When it comes toselecting a paint color,

do you freeze like adeer in headlights?

Don’t panic. Look around the room.

More specifically, look at your rug.

I’m not talking about your wall-to-wall carpet, although it definitely plays a role.I’m talking about the rug that you pickedout at the store. The one that you struggledover, compared to a few others, but found itto be “the one.” Rug shopping is kind of likeclothes shopping. You pick out somethingthat meets your style, mood and color. It’s abig deal. According to the experts at HGTV,rugs rank third (in cost) among homeownerpurchases.

If you already have a rug, but you’re not sureif it goes with the wall color or feel of theroom, ask yourself two questions beforedeciding to either change the paint color ormove the rug:

1. What do I like about the rug? Is it thecolor, texture or style? Or all three? Ifmulti-colored, which color is your favorite?

2. Does the rug’s personality match theroom’s personality?

Okay, that’s more than two questions, but ifyou answered “yes” to #2, then I would sug-gest you keep the rug and consider a differ-ent wall color. Examine your rug and decidewhat color in the rugs you really love orwant to stand out in the rug. For example,I love red. I want this red bokhara rug tostand out, but I don’t want red walls.

That would be a whole lotta red. I want tofeel relaxed in my front room. It’s where I read or listen to music.

By Stephanie Finucane, Owner of The Right Hue, LLCWHAT’S IN A RUG?

See this article and more at my new blog therighthue.com

TSM RUG article:Truffles Recipe 2/19/13 7:46 AM Page 1

Page 69: Triangle Style Magazine Spring Issue

There’s some paleblue in the rug. It’scertainly not thepredominant color, but one of the rea-sons why I love thisrug is because Ithink the gray blue hues and deep red andcream work beautifully together.

I choose a blue paint, notexact match, but in thesame family as the bluein my rug.

< Molding: Linen White,

< Wall: Hemlock 719,Benjamin Moore Paints.

The connection from rug to paint color willnever steer you wrong. If you need a little direction, HGTV offers an online quiz to helpyou determine your “carpet” personality.www.hgtv.com/webhgtv/2010/may/invista-quiz/start.html

There are eight multiple-choice questions, none of which actually asks you about car-pets. That’s because HGTV recognizes ourstyles are a reflection of our personalities.

Remember to consider the purpose of theroom and how you want to feel in it. If youhave a wild, bold rug, but you’d like to toneit down a little bit, go with a neutral paintcolor and vice versa. I always tell my customers to shop in their homes beforeshopping in the store. Maybe that gorgeousoriental needs to be in your bedroom insteadof the dining room.

Take another look around your home.Chances are you’ll find something thatneeds to go. Just because you put it therewhen you first purchased it doesn’t mean it’sstuck there for the next 30 years. And thatincludes rugs!

TIPSTip #1: When shopping for a specific item at aconsignment store, be flexible and open minded. You may not find exactly what you want, but youmight find something even better.

Tip #2: Most items in a consignment store willreduce every few weeks but if you wait for an itemto reduce before you buy, it's likely to be soldbefore you get back. In other words "You snoozeyou lose"!

Tip #3: Visit your favorite consignment storeoften. Unlike new furniture stores where theyhave many of the same items for sale, consign-ment stores have unique, one of a kind items andthe inventory changes constantly.

Tip #4: A consignment store can be a greatsource for information and referrals. Be wary ofthe consignment store that won't give you referrals to another consignment shop if you can'tfind what you are looking for in their shop. I findthat most of the customers I refer to my fellowconsignment shops come back to my storebecause they appreciate my willingness to meettheir needs. Sure, I'd like to make the sale but if I don't have what my customer needs at the time,I am happy to help them in any way I can...andsew a little good will along the way. "Little thingsmean a lot"

Tip #5: When considering venues for selling yourfurniture and home accessories, weigh all youroptions. Selling items yourself on the internetgets you all the money but it also gets you all theheadache. You have to be home to show youritems, invite strangers into your house, potentialbuyers don't always keep their appointments, annoying spammers and deal with people who are

speakprofessional hagglers. I've heard horrific and terrifying stories from people who have sold thingsthrough the internet. If you consign your items, theconsignment store takes all the risk. All you have todo is clean it, get it to the consignment store of yourchoice and collect the check once your item sells. "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

Tip #6: Don't take it personally if your items aren'taccepted at a particular consignment store. Each storehas it's own personality and what doesn't work for oneshop may work for another. "Don't wear your hearton your sleeve"

MYTHS• Myth #1: "A consignment store is not a thriftstore". TRUE - Most consignment shops have contractswith each consignor and usually can't negotiate prices.Look at it as if they were your items on consignmentand think how you would feel if the shop owner arbitrarily marked down items below ticketed price.

Myth #2: "All consignment shops are dirty andsmelly". FALSE - Most upscale consignment shops,be it furniture or clothing, require the items beingconsigned to be clean and in next to new condition. The better your items look, the more likely they are tosell at a higher price.

Myth #3: "I can sell this at a yard sale and make justas much money as I would make at a consignmentshop". FALSE - People who shop yard sales are lookingfor something they can buy for next to nothing. Evenif you polish and shine your high end items beforeputting them in a yard sale, you will get a fraction ofwhat you could have made if you would have consigned that very nice piece of furniture, and youwon't have to deal with yard sale hagglers.

Myth #4: "Consignment stores are overpriced yard-sales". FALSE - People bring items into consignmentstores because they are too good to put in a yardsale andsell for next to nothing. If you have items to sell thatyou think will make money in a yard sale then they areprobably not items that an upscale consignment storewould even consider taking.

Myth #5: "I can make more money by selling itmyself on the internet". MAYBE - A consignmentstore can usually sell things for more than it wouldsell on the internet and usually will net you, the consignor, a bigger profit.

aging gracefully

Almost every article I read about staying young saysit’s important to keep on learning. Crossword puz-zles, bridge,, foreign languages, anything new: theseare the sorts of things on the recommended subject-list. It’s not the subject matter, but the effort thatcounts—the same kind of effort it takes to prepare forany kind of sport. Persistent mental exercise, some-thing that is challenging, makes a stronger, more flex-ible brain.

It’s also important to stay positive. Everyone hasstresses in their lives, some more than others to besure, but it’s the way one handles stress, not the stressitself, that helps. Take a walk, read an absorbingbook, go to a movie or even lounge in a warm bath. And vital to staying positive is to surround yourselfwith friends who bring out the best in you.

Having some sort of spiritual life is also important. Ihaven’t met a single person who has lived a long lifewho doesn’t believe in something. There’s some-thing soothing about sitting in a quiet church.

It’s also no secret that exercise is key. Have you yethad a physical where you weren’t asked about theamount of exercise you do? Some of us say every daywhen what we really mean is that we did it every daya couple of weeks ago. The best way to make exercisepart of your day is to choose a time easiest for you andsimply don’t schedule anything else. Make it a sacredpart of your day and let others know you won’t beavailable during that time.

Some people do best in groups, where there is a socialaspect that goes along with the exercise; others dobest alone. One woman I know simply walks throughthe rooms of her house for an hour, listening to abook on tape while she goes.

Of course having a healthy diet always helps. Morethan one person I know went to a nutritionist who didall sorts of tests. and after the results came back tailormade a food plan best suited to her strengths andweaknesses.

fully It’s true that healthy food makes healthy people. But you have to stick with it. I did beautifully on abalanced plant based diet. In fact I aced my yearlyphysical. I congratulated myself and then felt safeto drift away from my healthy food plan. And guesswhat was the outcome of my next physical?

Having a sense of humor is also recommended. Some people find it’s a breeze, something that justcomes to them, like a gift from heaven. Others haveto work a little hard at it. I am one of those. I’llnever be the queen of the comedy circle, nor wouldI want to be, but there was a time when I lookedaskance at the life of the party and wondered why Icouldn’t relax just a bit more. So I practiced laugh-ing in front of a mirror, even though I didn’t meanit, which in turn seemed rather funny and made melaugh.

Sleep, sleep, sleep, right through the night, is some-thing else that’s recommended. I wish I could.Right now it’s 12:34 and in a few minutes I will goto sleep for only four hours, wake, have a half glassof Guinness and then go back to sleep for anotherfour hours. That’s four hours more than I used tohave. I’d like to make it red wine, it’s virtues are list-ed, but it gives me a headache and four extra hourscount for something. Besides, a woman I once met,who was 104 at a time, had had a highball instead ofa glass of wine her whole life through. Of coursethere are people who just shouldn’t drink at all.

I think I’ve covered my bases. To have a long, healthy life: keep your mind active, your attitudesunny and your stress eliminated or at least undercontrol. Choose positive people, enjoy a spirituallife, and take time to be still.

And it’s important to create a healthy food plan, aglass of red wine included, stick to your exerciseroutine, encourage your sense of humor and by allmeans get a good night’s sleep if you can. Even so,you’ll enjoy your live all the better when you’reinvolved with your community and are kind to others.

CHICKEN SAUTÉ WITH DIJON MUSTARD AND CREAM Dijon mustard in this dish creates a surprisingly delicate flavor.

The addition of cream helps to mellow the sharpness of the mustard and results in a sophisticated blend of flavors.

This is a great recipe that truly is easy enough for a weeknight meal while still being elegant

enough for entertaining.

• 1 pound boneless, skinless chicken thighs, lightly seasoned with salt and pepper• 3 tablespoons olive oil • ½ cup white wine • ½ onion, chopped • 8 oz. mushrooms, sliced

• ¼ tsp. dried thyme • ¼ cup heavy cream • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

In a large skillet over medium heat, add 2 tablespoons of the olive oil. Once the pan is hot, add the chicken thighs and allow to brown on both side, working in

batches to avoid over crowding the pan. Remove thighs to a plate and keep warm.

In the same pan, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil along with the chopped onions and sauté until tender, about 5-6 minutes. Add the mushrooms and sauté until just wilted, about 2-3 minutes. Next, deglaze the pan with the wine using a wooden spoon to scrape up the browned bits. Add chicken thighs back to the pan along with chicken stock and dried thyme. Allow to simmer uncovered until the chicken thighs are cooked through,

about 5-6 minutes depending on the thickness of the meat.

Meanwhile, in a small bowl, combine the cream and mustard. Turn the heat to low and add the cream and mustard mixture to the pan, stirring to combine. Add a few grinds of fresh pepper and serve with rice.

Serves 2-3.

Great food for entertaining that's simple enough for everyday

Hi Tracy,Facials come in all different forms; some are morefocused on correction and others more on pamper-ing. Determining which type of facial you shouldget for the first time requires the aesthetican (skincare provider) knowing your expectations anddesired outcome. You stated you have dry, blotchyskin which can mean several things, for exampleyou are not properly exfoliated (dead skin cell buildup) which a peel would help with however skintypes that tend to get blothy can also be sensitive sowe may want to do a light microdermabrasion thefirst time rather than a peel. Some facial treatmentsmay have some post procedure “down time” asso-ciated with it such as light peeling or flaking whichis a good thing as this means cellular turnover ishappening. But then again if you’re simply lookingfor an instant soft hydrated glow something like an

oxygen infused facial is nice mild and soothingoption. I would highly recommend selecting a skincare facility that offers a complimentary pre-facialconsultation so your aesthetican can take a look atyour skin, ask you about your skin/health historyand get a better understand of exactly what yourneeds/concerns are. I would never just lie down ona treatment table and let a stranger give me a facialwithout interviewing them first. You need to makesure they are educated and that they are able to better educate you about your skin and togetheryou will both be able to create a treatment plan thatwill have your skin looking great in no time.

56 Up is the latest edition of the acclaimedBritish 7 Up series. The series began in 1964with the Jesuit philosophy “Give me a childuntil he is seven and I will give you the man.”With this premise in mind, fourteen seven-year old children from different socio-eco-nomic classes of English society were chosenand captured on film and the director,Michael Apted, has followed them everyseven years hence.

When they are seven, you wonder how theywill turn out and you ask yourself the samequestion when they are fourteen, twenty-one, and so forth. And here they are now:fifty-six and you still wonder what life has instore for them.

At seven, Tony is into everything and alwayswill be. Neil, on the other hand, is a cheerfuland tender little boy with lots of promise. Asthe years go by, you just want to hold himand tell him everything will be okay. Suzyzip zags through life, is brutally honest, andyou like her a lot. Bruce, John, and Neil --upper-class seven-year olds talk about thefutures they have planned. You find theirlater lives more interesting to follow thanyou would have thought. Sue just makes youproud.

And in between each edition, you cross yourfingers. You can’t wait to see what they’vebeen up to since you last met. With some, you would like to sit down and have a goodchat. And with others, although you mayfeel a bit awkward, you’re interested all thesame. They all feel like such good friends.

Little Dorrit, adapted from a novel byCharles Dickens’, is a Masterpiece Classic --so well done that it won seven EmmyAwards. It’s a panorama of English life with-in a debtor’s prison, where sometimes fami-lies live their entire lives. And sometimes

they have children like Little Dorrit, wholeaves through the locked gate each day tofind a living as best she can to pay off herfather’s insurmountable debt. Her employer,it is suspected, keeps a secret which canchange Little Dorrit’s life.

Bride Flight In 1953 a KLM flight, part of the“Last Great Air Race” from London to New Zealand, was given the nickname“Bride Flight,” because the majority of itspassengers were women on their way to join husbands or fiances. The film takes its inspiration from this event.

In the film are three women who leave theirdrab post-war Holland behind with the hopeof finding a better life in New Zealand. Onewoman, a Holocaust survivor, wants to openher own boutique. The other two are married, one to a man she has met just once. And on the plane is a man who will weave inand out of their lives for decades to come.Although I enjoyed the story, it was the land-scape that remained most vivid.

The Well-Digger’s Daughter is an old-fashioned movie. Set in the idyllic Frenchcountryside around 1914, it is the tale of awell-digger named Pascal Amoretti. He’s ahard-working man who has six daughters tosupport. After their mother dies, he summons home his eldest daughter fromParis to help raise them. Patricia is a prettygirl and Amoretti thinks his rough-hewnassistant would make her a good husband.Patricia however has fallen in love with theson of a wealthy neighbor who has gone off to war. When Amoretti learns she is pregnant, he takes Patricia to the boy’s parents who refuse to right their son’swrong. Amoretti refuses to bear the shameand sends Patricia away. Though, wouldn’t aboy be named Amoretti?
