    Advanced Technology

By inserting the Throttling Trim Cartridges into Triple Eccentric ButterflyValves, control valves are created that exhibit significant improvements inperformance, simplicity, and economy. They have excellent throttlingcharacteristics and provide aerodynamic noise attenuation, and liquidcavitation reductions in a wide range of services from cryogenictemperatures, up to 815C, including liquids, gasses, and steam.

    TRI-SHARK

Control Valves are the first zeroleakage triple eccentric type controlvalves exclusively designed forprocess control and throttlingpurposes. They were conceived in acollaborative effort between ZWICK

    ARMATUREN GMBH, Yeary

Controls and Dr. Hans Baumann, aforemost expert in control valvedesign. TRI-SHARK Control Valvesrepresent the latest in control valvetechnologies for process controlapplications.

    TRI-SHARK Control Valve

As the butterfly vane turns within the Throttling Trim Cartridge, the flow is firstcontrolled via the characterized clearance between the disc edge and the solid, tapered portion of the cartridge; then through the multiple, optimized slots andfinally through the additional open area of the valve to provide:

    Reduced Seat

    Rangeability Exceeding 100:1

    Equal Percentage Characteristic

    Noise Attenuation

    Reduced Cavitation

Lower Operating Torque also due to downsized trim options

    Energy absorbing Flow Pattern

Flow Laboratory testsverified how individual water

jets impinge upon eachother at approximately onepipe diameter downstreamfrom the Sharktooth Control

Element, thereby convertingkinetic energy in the fluidprior to contacting the pipewall.

    Noise Attenuation

    Reduces Aerodynamic Noise

Up to 15 dBA As the vane turns within theSharktooth Throttling TrimCartridge, multiple, optimized, throttling slots are graduallyexposed to flow. Then, at higher flows, when thevane has cleared the contouredslotted portion of the controlcartridge, the resultant lowerpressure drop will alleviate anyfurther noise problems.

    Cavitation Reduction

    Anti-Cavitation Properties

Sharktoothstwenty-five percent higher incipientcavitation index allows for higherpressure drops than ordinarybutterfly valves, while exhibitingmuch less noise, cavitation, anddamage.Even if cavitation does occur inhigher pressure drop situations, theshorter vapor jets produced by theslots will avoid the damagingeffects caused by large vapor jets, referred to as super cavitation.

    Dynamic Torque Reduction

    More Control with Less Torque

TRI-SHARKsdynamic torque requirements are 60 percentless than ordinary butterfly valves, even athigh-end Cvs, thereby providing exceptionalstability throughout its control range.

TRI-SHARKTriple Eccentric Metal-to-Metal Seatingrequires lower breakaway torques than eitherbutterfly or rotary plug control valves and, itsextended torque reversal point allows for anexpanded rangeof control.

    Flow Characteristic

    Excellent Control Range

TRI-SHARKControl Valves have aneffective control range thatextends from 1 percent at 5degrees of travel to 100

percentat 90 degrees of travel. Its equal percentage flowcharacteristic fits the vastmajority of control looprequirements.

    TRI-SHARK Valve RatedCv Factors

    Low to High Flow Capability

TRI-SHARKThrottling Trim Cartridges eliminate the lowangle instability inherent in most quarter-turncontrol valves. For instance, ordinary butterflyvalves exhibit poor control at angles of opening

    that are less than 25.

TRI-SHARKtechnology greatly extends control rangeabilityto as low as 3 degrees of valve opening to 85degrees while also providing noise attenuationand anti-cavitation benefits.

    Optional ResistancePlatesfor More Attenuation

When your TRI-SHARKcontrol valves exit velocity(UV) for gases exceeds 83m/sec, the installation of aResistance Plate to reducethe aerodynamic noise isrecommended. Similar use ofsuch plates is advised forhigh pressure liquids toreduce excessivehydrodynamic noise,or cavitation.
