20th & 21st. The Capital Wood Carvers in Sacramento really appreciate our Tri Valley woodcarvers teaching soap carving to the kids in attendance, as it adds so much to the show. The show teams up with the Gourd Society and is very well attended by many carvers and draws very good carvings for the judged competition, so make sure you enter your carvings and attend.

The Alameda County Fair dates are June 16th - July 9th. The Fair’s theme this year is “Best Summer Ever”. There are, of course, the preparations for entries, so it’s time to think about what to carve for judging and what the club display is going to be this year. We will be holding the soap carving event again on Kid’s days. We are hoping to sponsor the youth wood carving event again this year. The Kid’s carvings are from our teaching classes at the local schools. We really received high appreciation from the kids, parents and the Fair management for our participation in these events.

Our participation in the annual Art Under the Oaks event is set for this year July15th-16th. We are in the same building as last year. Perhaps, the club can discuss a theme or project to present for this event or we can keep it an individual sales event, as we did last year. Last year was our second offering of kids soap carving for this event. It was very well received and a lot of fun. Depending on our TVC soap carving volunteers, we might offer soap carving again this year.

This year marks the club’s 45th anniversary for our annual Wood Show. The wood show will be not only a great showing of our carvings, but a wonderful celebration of our club and achievements. The venue and dates are established for September, 9th and 10th at the Pleasanton Veteran’s Hall. Preshow setup will be on the 8th starting at 3pm until 9pm. We have started a list for the tasks needed for a banner successful show.

The events listed are some of the high lights for the year. We will be continuing with our school teaching sessions and the Veteran’s Cane projects. Make sure you keep up with the Club details in the “Mark your Calendars” section of the newsletter.

Meeting Highlights 12-10-2016 Final ‘minutes’ by Joan Cousins

No business meeting in December as it was replaced

by our TVC Annual Christmas Lunch, therefore no minutes for December.

January 14th is our Election meeting so PLEASE plan to attend and place your motions and/or votes for folks to fill the Officer positions. I have had the honor and pleasure of serving as your Recording Secretary for 16 years but will not be continuing with this position as of

Jan 1st so please consider taking a shot at this job or suggest someone else.

My deepest thank to Ken Morgan, Paul Fackler, Bob Kehl and Dave Boles for all your help and input and special thanks to Mike Pocha for always having my back with proofing the minutes and other official things. You are a great bunch to work with and I know you’ll be there for the next Secretary too.

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all …. Joan Cousins ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

[:] Black Walnut Wood: Ken Morgan just bought some more black walnut. They are big pieces, 4 x 8, 4 x 12 and 4 x 14 each about 7 ft long. Contact him if you are interested 925.462.6586 or [email protected] [:] Joan Cousins Retiring: As of Jan. 2017 Joan Cousins is retiring as Recording Secretary. Come to the meeting, Saturday, Jan. 14, and thank her for her outstanding efforts to make our meeting’s minutes complete and informative for these last 16 years. That’s 192 months worth of taking meeting minutes, sending get well and condolence cards, writing “Thank You” notes, being the sympathetic voice of the “Broken Blade” notices, and so much more. [:] Space Available: The space on the Bulletin Board page is also available to our members who would like to submit ideas or information of interest to the Club. Let me know what you have in mind at [email protected] .
