The MBBR process (Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor, alsocalled fluidized bed process) has become a proven andfrequently used method for biological wastewatertreatment and is based on the principle of bacteriabeing immobilized on the surface of PE carrier mediawhich are suspended in the wastewater. In order toavoid the significant shortcomings as they can beobserved with many conventional carriers which resultin the decrease of the specific carrier surface area andtherefore in the decline of their specific removalperformance, T4b provides a high‐performancebiofilm carrier which is state‐of‐the‐art in MBBRtechnology: theTurbo4bio BioChip™.

The T4b BioChip™ is a high‐performance MBBRcarrier and provides a protected active surface of3,000 m²/m³ for the immobilization of microorganismswhich are in charge of the different biological waterand wastewater treatment processes. Its application ischaracterized by extremely high removal rates andreliable process stability which are, at present,unrivalled by any competing product available on theglobal market.

The detailed pore system of the T4b BioChip™

offers the ideal conditions for thin biofilms establishingin the pores where the microorganisms are offered theoptimal substrate and oxygen feed from thewastewater to be treated. Furthermore, the thicknessof the biofilm is permanently kept constant by self‐cleaning due to shear forces caused by the movementof the carrier in the wastewater.
