Song choice: For All Those Sleeping – Once A Liar (Always A Fake)

Concept:

The lyrics to this song are about a relationship which has deeply affected the persona of this song.

The persona goes about re-thinking of the bad times that they were put through by their partner,

which is shown throughout the lyrics: “You only wanted to control me, How could I think you were Heaven? When you put me through Hell?” As the

title of the song suggests, the persona is explaining how the partner he was with was a liar and a fake. The inspiration for this song may have came from a past relationship of one of the band

members who felt as though they were being used and manipulated by an ex. However, the song takes an almost positive light as the persona

explains how they will not let the ex keep them down and shall keep on fighting to overcome the torture of their relationship, as shown in the lyrics

“I won’t ever let you bury me (Bury me) ‘Cause I won’t ever let myself become that weak.”

Due to this, the idea for my video shall include a young couple, the male of which shall be feeling controlled and under-pressure from his partner. As this goes on, after each conflict and each time he feels put down, I would like to have his emotions and feelings written onto him. This shall include

“Worthless”, “Depressed”, “Abused” and “Meaningless” being written on a range of places, such as his forehead and all over his arms. Due to this I shall have the persona being alone and going through emotions as becoming stressed as he pulls at his hair, cries and begins to throw things. Also, because of the uplifting lyrics of never being held

down, I shall have a shot of the male character being restrained and held down, but as soon as the lyrics of not being buried are sung I shall intersect a piece of footage showing the character escaping the constraints of his abusive relationship. As he

escapes, I shall have the male character drenched in water, having water poured over him, which

shall erase the emotions written on him in order to represent how he now feels cleansed and has now been released away from his tormentor. I shall also

include fire burning away paper with dates and memories on with the male hopefully jumping over the fire to signify a brand new start/forgetting the

bad times. The inspiration for the idea about writing the emotions onto the characters skin was taken from Christian Rock band Skillet’s video for their song Sick Of It. The inspiration for the restraints came from Panic! At The Disco’s video for their single

This Is Gospel.
