Watch out forAlthough most locals are friendly,

like in any city some areas can feel a bit unwelcoming –

particularly after dark. Keep to the main streets - they have all

you’ll need!

NightlifeIf there’s one thing New Orleans is known for, it’s jazz. While away your evenings at The Spotted Cat Music Club, Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro or Ooh Pooh Pah Doo Bar.

Looking for full-on party vibes? Bourbon Street is 13 blocks of pure hedonism. And at night, it truly comes alive. Think dancing in the streets, neon lights, quirky performers, and buzzing bars.

If you fancy something a little more laid-back, spend some time in Bourbon Street’s Musical Legends Park, where you’ll find live music and impressive statues of jazz legends.

GETTING AROUND

Best foot forward The French Quarter area is easy to walk around, and you’ll get to wander the streets soaking up the unique architecture and popping into all kinds of quirky shops and bars.

FOR THE FOODIES

Take a ride on a streetcar... Combine getting around with immersing yourself in New Orleans - see the city from a streetcar window! Pick up a ‘Jazzy Pass’ (from $3 for a one-day pass) to get unlimited rides!

Hop in a cab after dark NOLA is a buzzing, lively city, but once the sun goes down it’s a lot safer to jump in a cab to make your way back. There are always plenty of licensed taxis around Bourbon Street, and Uber and Lyft are popular cab-calling apps in the States.

A big ol’ helping of that Southern hospitality - make sure you sample the best of New Orleans’ traditional tastes!

Our favourites:Galatoire’s (209 Bourbon St, LA 70130) - For a classic and classy sit down lunch, grab a bowl of gumbo (a special Louisiana stew) and enjoy the charming decor at New Orleans institution Galatoire’s. This place gets pretty busy, so head along early to avoid the queues!

Killer Poboys (811 Conti St, LA 70112) - When in NOLA, you just have to sample one of the local favourites. A po-boy is a traditional meat-filled sandwich. For fresh bread and mouth-watering fillings, Killer Poboys is the one to beat.

Café Du Monde (800 Decatur St, LA 70116) - In New Orleans’ French Quarter, you need to try a beignet - a square piece of dough, fried and covered with powdered sugar. Pick up a generous serving of three for under $3!
