Details: Travelogues and Technologies- From Small Sketches to the Biggest Book illustrates the evolving technological world and its role in documenting scientific expeditions. Through the unique archival images of Field Museum expeditions from the late 1890s to the present, the exhibition will display the methods used to share these stories with the world. Learn fascinating facts about the development of image-capturing technologies from sketchbooks, through digital photography, all the way to social media platforms.

A highlight of the exhibition is the opportunity to get an up-close look at one of the largest books ever published—Bhutan: A Visual Odyssey Across the Last Himalayan Kingdom. At 5 by 7 feet, the book documents the country’s cultural traditions and natural beauty, and is a result of several MIT expeditions to the rarely accessible and isolated nation of Bhutan. Due to the book’s gigantic size, the book is difficult to display to the public, but Travelogues and Technologies will give you a rare opportunity to gaze at the beauty of Bhutan, the land and its people.

Tickets: Travelogues and Technologies is included with basic admission. ($15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students, and $10 for children. Discounts are available for Chicago residents.)
