First Class features larger seats, picture windows, more space for your luggage and is usually less crowded. First Class often also includes extras, such as free snacks, newspapers and free Wi-Fi on select trains. Plus, certain long haul routes have table or buffet service so you can enjoy a meal at your seat en route.

If you have a rail pass or an open train ticket, then you can make seat reservations per person, per train for a nominal fee. Reservations are especially required for most international long-distance trains, various domestic high-speed trains and night trains. We also recommend that you make seat reservations in advance for travel on select European trains during peak travel periods.
Taking a sleeper train is a great way to cover a lot of distance, without wasting a day on travel. It also offers great value as you save the cost of one nights hotel stay while you journey to your next destination. Rail pass holders can purchase a supplement for travel aboard a sleeper train. To note reservations must be made in advance of travel.
