SAFETYAt VIA Rail, safety is our top priority. Our onboard staff will take you through our procedures shortly after boarding.

ELECTRICITYWith the exception of lower and upper berths, our cabins feature electrical outlets. The electrical current in Canada is 110 volts, 60 cycle AC. Appliances that operate on a different voltage will require an adapter.

FOOD AND REFRESHMENTSThe types of meals available on board our trains vary by train, time of year and the class you have selected. Consult our website for a glance at our menus.

Please note that onboard meal services are offered at various times, depending on the number of passengers. Your onboard crew will provide more information upon departure.

GRATUITIESService charges are not included in the ticket price, as we believe tipping to be strictly optional. Gratuities may be offered to your onboard crew at your discretion for services provided on an individual basis.

WIRELESS INTERNETFree wireless Internet is available in most major stations across Canada.

Wi-Fi is available in the service car on board the Montréal–Halifax train (Ocean).

However, Wi-Fi is not available on board the Toronto–Vancouver (Canadian) and Winnipeg–Churchill trains.

SMOKING POLICYWe are pleased to offer a smoke-free environment on all our trains. Your Service Manager or Attendant will advise you of scheduled smoking stops.

METHODS OF PAYMENT ON BOARDWe accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and cash. We do not accept debit, prepaid credit or debit credit cards.

STOPSWe strive to stay on schedule. As a result, some station stops may be shorter than planned to make up for lost time. Please ask our onboard staff for revised times.

CONNECTIONSIf you are planning a connection with VIA Rail train, please confirm the timing with our onboard staff.

While VIA endeavors to operate on time, the realities of increased freight traffic on tracks that we do not own may give rise to significant delays. We suggest that you do not arrange connecting transportation on the day of your arrival.

VERIFYING YOUR DEPARTURE TIMEIt’s always a good idea to check if your train will be departing on schedule. Call us at 1 888 842-7245.

CHECKING INFor major stations, we ask that you arrive 90 minutes prior to departure (Vancouver, Toronto, Montréal and Halifax). For all other stations, we recommend arriving at least 45 minutes in advance. Once you’ve checked in, VIA personnel will direct you accordingly and inform you of any applicable baggage procedures.

BOARDINGWe recommend that you remain close to your train’s departure area, or in the departure lounge, and listen for boarding announcements.
