THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO offers many transportation and parking options for students, faculty, staff, University of Chicago Medicine staff, and visitors who come to campus. These offerings include the free UGo shuttles that travel on a variety of daytime and nighttime routes throughout the greater campus area; more than 20 parking lots, including a large parking garage on Campus North; and several Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) bus routes that travel on and near campus. Many of these local CTA bus routes are free or discounted for University members as part of an agreement with the CTA. This guide provides a comprehensive overview of the University’s transportation, parking, and general travel information at the University of Chicago. What’s New
CIE SHUTTLE ROUTE CHANGENew stops have been added to the CIE Shuttle route to include Regenstein Library, Ellis Garage, and the intersection of 53rd Street and Kimbark Avenue. The shuttle now operates from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. For more information about this route, see page 5.
PAY BY PHONE PARKINGThe University of Chicago is piloting a Pay By Phone parking program that allows drivers to pay for parking by cell phone, an app, or by computer. This feature is available at six parking lots around campus. For more information visit safety-security.uchicago.edu/transportation. PARKING RATE INCREASE New parking rates for visitors and permit holders go into effect October 1, 2015. For current rates, please visit safety-security.uchicago.edu/transportation.
APOSTOLIC, APOSTOLIC/DREXEL SHUTTLES ANNOUNCEMENTDue to safety concerns, the Apostolic and Apostolic/Drexel Shuttles will no longer stop in front of the parking garage at 6054 South Drexel Avenue. Both shuttles will continue to stop at the front entrance of the 6054 South Drexel building.

UGo Daytime ShuttlesThe University of Chicago provides free daytime shuttle service around the campus area and the neighboring communities to all students, faculty, staff, and University of Chicago Medicine staff. The shuttles run year-round except on University observed holidays. For the most up-to-date information visit the Transportation & Parking Services website at safety-security.uchicago.edu/transportation. To ride the shuttles, passengers should tap a valid UChicago or University of Chicago Medicine ID when boarding. Please visit the ID & Privileges website at ipo.uchicago.edu for a listing of valid IDs.
FRIEND CENTER AND METRA ROUTE (Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 9 p.m.). Departs 59th Street and Drexel Avenue: 0:00 and 0:30; Friend Center: 0:10 and 0:40; 57th Street Metra Station: 0:20 and 0:50 (*By request only).
DREXEL ROUTE (Monday through Friday 5 a.m. to 10 a.m.; use Apostolic/Drexel Route after 10 a.m.). Departs 61st Street and Drexel Avenue on the tens (0:00, 0:10, 0:20, etc.).

53rd STREET EXPRESS The 53rd Street Express shuttle runs between the 53rd Street corridor and various points around campus. The shuttle operates from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The route starts at Harper Court, arriving and departing at the top (0:00) and bottom (0:30) of the hour. The shuttle is scheduled to arrive at the Ratner Athletics Center at 0:10 and 0:40, and near the Press Building on 60th Street at 0:23 and 0:53, in addition to the other designated stops around the campus area.
To ride the shuttle, passengers should tap a valid UChicago or University of Chicago Medicine ID. Please visit the ID & Privileges website at ipo.uchicago.edu for a listing of valid IDs. Once service for the 53rd Street Express shuttle ends at 6 p.m., the East Route of the NightRide service travels east on 53rd Street and can be picked up at the southeast corner of 53rd Street and Lake Park Avenue. Check the NightRide section in this brochure for more specifics about this service.
CIE SHUTTLE The CIE Shuttle is another transportation option that links the 53rd Street corridor, including the Chicago Innovation Exchange (CIE), with the University’s main campus. This shuttle operates 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Friday. The route starts at the Logan Center for Arts arriving and departing at the top (0:00) and bottom (0:30) of the hour. It then travels to various points around campus before reaching the Chicago Innovation Exchange, located at 53rd Street and Harper Avenue, departing at 0:15 & 0:45 after the hour. Once service for the CIE Shuttle ends at 8 p.m., the East Route of the NightRide service travels east on 53rd Street and can be picked up at the southeast corner of 53rd Street and Harper Avenue. South Loop Shuttle The South Loop Shuttle operates during the academic year on Friday and Saturday nights between campus and Chicago’s South Loop neighborhood. The South Loop Shuttle only stops at designated stops and does not pick up or drop off passengers at intersections. This service is free and available for University students, faculty, staff, and University of Chicago Medicine staff. To ride the shuttle, all passengers should tap a valid UChicago or University of Chicago Medicine ID.

State Street/Roosevelt Road Stop
• Departs from State Street just south of Roosevelt Road on the half hour from 6:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. and travels to 57th Street and University Avenue.
• Departs from 57th Street and University Avenue (picks up on University Avenue) on the hour from 6:00 p.m. to midnight and travels to State Street just south of Roosevelt Road near the CTA Roosevelt Station.

Transportation for Injured or Disabled Students An injured student who needs transportation should contact Transportation & Parking Services at 773.795.6108 or [email protected] between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday (except holidays). Service should be requested at least 24 hours in advance of when service is needed. In the interim, students should arrange other transportation options. Pickup and drop off times may vary depending on service demands. Injured student transportation will be provided for injured students but not for a third party.
Injured student transportation will be provided to and from:
• Perimeter of the Main Quadrangle Pedestrian Zone (MQPZ)
• Campus libraries
• University of Chicago Medicine for medical treatments
• Campus dining locations
The University also provides Dial-A-Ride, a complimentary curb-to-curb transportation service for students with long-term limited mobility. This service provides rides to and from regularly scheduled classes and to and from medical appointments at the University of Chicago Medicine complex. Students requesting this service must first register with Student Disabilities Services by contacting 773.702.6000 or [email protected]. Service must then be arranged with Transportation & Parking Services at least three business days prior to an individual’s transport needs. To arrange for this service, contact 773.795.6108 or safety-security.uchicago.edu/transportation.
Additionally, all campus bus and shuttle transportation is ADA accessible.

Exploring Chicago CTA BUSES NEAR CAMPUS
#2 HYDE PARK EXPRESSSeveral bus stops are located along Cottage Grove Avenue, 60th Street, and Stony Island Avenue for morning and evening rush hour service. This route provides access to the State Street shopping and business district in the Loop, the Magnificent Mile, and Navy Pier.
#4 COTTAGE GROVENorthbound and southbound bus stops are located along Cottage Grove Avenue between 55th Street and 61st Street. The Art Institute of Chicago, Millennium Park, and Millennium Station are all in close proximity to this route. This route also provides overnight “Night Owl” service.
#6 JACKSON PARK EXPRESSBus stops are located along Stony Island Avenue from 60th Street to 57th Street. This route provides service to the Chicago Riverwalk, Millennium Park, and Millennium Station, and the South Shore Cultural Center.
#10 MUSEUM OF SCIENCE & INDUSTRYThe bus stop is located near the north entrance of the museum. This route provides access to State Street, Michigan Avenue, and various points of interest downtown.
#15 JEFFERY LOCALNorthbound and southbound bus stops are located on campus along Stony Island Avenue between 60th Street and 56th Street. This route travels along Lake Park Avenue and is convenient for 53rd Street and Harper Court, and 51st Street and 53rd Street Metra Electric stations. This route also travels to the 47th Street Red Line station.
#28 STONY ISLANDBuses stop along Stony Island Avenue and provide access to a variety of houses of worship. This route travels as far south as 103rd Street.
#55 GARFIELDBus stops are located along 55th Street. This bus provides access between campus and the CTA’s Green and Red lines in addition to Midway Airport.
#59 59th/61st STREETBus stops are located along 61st Street and also at the corner of Dorchester Avenue and 60th Street near the Midway Plaisance. This route travels to and from Midway Airport as well as the Garfield Red Line station.
#63 63rd STREETBus stops are located along 63rd Street from Stony Island Avenue to Cottage Grove Avenue just south of campus. This route offers “Night Owl” service and travels to several CTA Red and Green line stations. It also travels to the 63rd Street beach house and Jackson Park inner harbor.

BIKING CHICAGO/DIVVYAnother way to get around campus and the surrounding area is by bicycle. The city has more than 170 miles of on-street protected, buffered, and shared bike lanes. All CTA buses have bike racks and bikes are allowed on CTA trains during non-peak hours. The city of Chicago offers Divvy, a bike sharing program. You can purchase a daily or annual membership, then simply check a bike out from one of hundreds of stations and return it to any other station in the city. TRANSLOC uchicago.transloc.comAll UGo shuttles and CTA routes that service campus are equipped with GPS tracking. Shuttle movements and arrivals can be tracked online, on a mobile device, or on one of the monitors located in various buildings across campus. TransLoc also displays any announcements and alerts that may affect the shuttles’ movements. Shuttle tracking can also be done on the UChicago mobile app which you can download from the iTunes and Google Play stores.

LOST AND FOUNDThe University and its shuttle service provider assume no responsibility for any items lost while riding a UGo shuttle. ALTERNATIVE TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMSIn support of campus sustainability efforts and to reduce the number of single occupancy vehicles on campus, the University offers two comprehensive alternative programs. Enrollment in the qualifying commuter benefits program allows participants to enroll in the Occasional Parking Program and receive a limited quantity of parking passes for access to the Ellis Garage. NightRideThe NightRide shuttles are free to all University students, faculty, staff, and University of Chicago Medicine staff. To ride the shuttles, all passengers should tap a valid UChicago or University of Chicago Medicine ID when boarding. Please visit the ID & Privileges website at ipo.uchicago.edu for a listing of valid IDs.
HOURSNightRide operates seven nights a week with a reduced service for holidays and summer quarter. Sunday through Wednesday the shuttles operate from 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday through Saturday the shuttles run from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. The shuttles run approximately every 20-30 minutes, on the hour and half hour.
STOPSFor your safety and the safety of all passengers, flag stops can only occur at intersections. To flag a shuttle between designated stops, customers should safely stand at the intersection to allow the shuttle to safely pull over. Remember, NightRide operates when it is dark outside, so it is important to be visible to the driver and indicate to him or her that you would like to board. To indicate a stop while on the shuttle, pull the cord or ask the driver. The driver will then stop at the next intersection.
