Small Group Letter R rainbow craft & writing practice.

Using unifix cubes count to 19 & write the number in the salt tray.

Magazine Color Hunt search for the color black in magazines to make a collage.

Using playdough shape mats to make a diamond.

Decorate the sight word find with colored yarn..

Large Group Discuss that there are many ways to travel on the land. Show the children different modes of land transportation. Using photos or books show them different land transportation vehicles and ask them have you ever seen a __. Let them share their experience.

Ask the children what type of car their mommy or daddy drives & when they grow up what kind of vehicle do they want to drive. Record their responses. Show the children different cars, trucks, and vans a parent might drive using photos & books. Art: Car craft

Discuss traffic lights & why we need them & how they keep vehicles safe. Play red light, green light Art: Traffic Light

Discuss maps & explain that maps are like drawings that tells us where the roads are & how symbols on maps stand for real things. Art: Map creation let the children cre-ate a group map or individual maps.

Discuss construction vehicles using books & photos. Ask "Where would you see a digger or dump truck?”. Art: Shape dump truck

Small Group Letter S snail craft & writing practice.

Using number cookie cutter stamp the number 15.

I can make green using paint. Mix blue & yellow to make the color green.

Diamond shape tracing using shape tracing worksheets.

Build the sight word me using letter tiles and the Build It Mat.

Large Group Discuss that there are many ways to travel in the air. Show the children different modes of air transporta-tion. Show them the different air transportation and ask them have you ever seen a __. Let them share their experience.

Discuss helicopters and explain that they are a useful means of transportation. Example, our police, emergency medical transporters, and our government use helicopters for a variety of reasons. Art: Helicopters

Discuss that a hot air balloon is a large balloon that is filled with heated air and that floats in the sky with a basket underneath for peo-ple to ride in. Art: Hot air billon

Ask the children have they ever been on airplane? Where did you go? Discuss the different types of airplanes and why people get on air planes. Art: Airplane

Review the different types of air transportation. Then go for a little walk to look for different types of air transportation.

Small Group Letter T tree craft & writing practice.

Using a ten frame mat count to 16 & write the number in the salt tray.

Sort the colors black & green.

Diamond lace cards. Using the sight word flash cards & playdoh to make your sight words we & play.

Large Group Discuss that there are many ways to travel on the water. Show the children different modes of water transportation. Show them different water transportation vehicles and ask them have you ever seen a __. Let them share their experience.

Using a full picture of a boat ask them what parts of a boat they see. Point out the anchor, steering wheel, and engine/sail/oars. Ask who has been on a boat before and let them share their experiences. Art: Boat craft

Set out a variety of materials for "boat building," Let your children experiment with using the variety of materials to make boats. When they have finished, en-courage them to float their creations in water. Which materials made the best boats? Why?

Discuss and explain what is a canoe is using photos & books. Explain a canoe is a light narrow boat with both ends sharp that is usually propelled by paddling. They were once used for hunting, fishing and now are used for fun and leisure. Art: Canoe

Discuss and explain what is a submarine using photos or books. Explain that a submarine is a special vessel or ship that can go underwater. Submarines can be used for many things Military, Science and Research & salvage. Art: Shape submarine

Week Focus Letter: Review RST Number: 16 Color: Green Shape: Diamond Sight Word: Play

Small Group Letter RST sound sort.

Using number cards place them in numerical order to 16.

Make a black & green pattern. Depending on age make an AB, AAB, or ABC pattern

Diamond shape flower craft.

Using the sight word flash cards write the sight word play in the salt tray.

Large Group Discuss the different means of public transporta-tion. Explain that public transportation is a shared passenger transport service which is available to the public. Show them different public transporta-tion systems and ask them have you ever ridden on a __. Let them share there experience.

Discuss a taxi and explain that the person driving the taxi takes passengers where they want to go in exchange for money. Ask the children where they would want a taxi to take them. Art: Taxi

Discuss a school bus and explain that it takes children to school. Show them different pictures of school buses. Art: Bus

Use a toy train to introduce the topic. Show the engine, cars, and ca-boose. Ask the chil-dren to guess the purpose of each part. Show them pictures of trains that carry different things (freight trains, passenger trains, etc.). Art: Train Stamping

Discuss cable cars explain that it’s a vehicle that hangs in the air from a cable that pulls it up and down mountains. Art: Cable car

Science Sensory Dramatic Play

Vehicle Parts At the science center, provide magnifying glasses and supplies such as spark plugs, engine parts, wheels, pulleys, etc. Allow the children to explore and discuss how they could be used in various vehicles.

Sailing Away Using toy boats of different sizes. Encourage children to find different ways to make their water vehicles move (with their hands, by blowing on them, etc.). Try making waves in the water table to see if any of the boats "capsize"

Food Truck Turn dramatic play into a food truck serving yummy street food. Props to add food, menus, money, open sign, dress up clothes etc..

Blocks Art Play-Dough

I Can Build… Transportation Encourage the children to make vehicles to drive around in a city or town. They can also use the vehicles they may have made from the art center.

Art Inspiration...Transportation Transportation photos to inspire their art. Build A Vehicle Provide materials such as boxes, toilet paper rolls, etc. Encourage children to create their own vehicles Transportation Shape Vehicle Precut different shapes and colors and place them in the art area with glue sticks. Encourage children to design their own mode of transportation! Painting With Cars Using a large pieces of butcher paper, plastic cars and trays of paint let the children roll the cars in the paint onto the paper.
