Courtesy Riders

Courtesy Riders

A courtesy rider is a student that utilizes current bus service and resides within 4.0 kilometers and 4.8 kilometers walk limits of their catchment school or attends a school outside of their attendance area.

Courtesy riders must use existing bus service and stops, bus routes are not altered and new bus stops are not implemented for courtesy riders.

Once a courtesy rider begins utilizing the system, it becomes increasingly difficult to revoke riding privileges.

Bus Information

We have 29 school busses:

4 wheel chair equipped busses on regular bus routes and 2 spare busses.

16 regular busses (70 to 84 passenger) on bus routes and 7 spare busses. Regular busses transport 56 secondary students and up to 84 elementary students.

Spare busses are used as replacements when busses are being serviced/repaired or are going out of District for a charter/field trip.

Presently we have 9 spare busses, which is more than we usually have. This was due to the possibility of needing more busses temporarily due to school closures. We will be eliminating at least one bus from our fleet at the end of this school year.

Vehicle Replacement Program

2010, a third party Fleet Review was performed and recommended that for staff safety, performance and liability we enter into a vehicle replacement program.

Since 2011/12, staff have maintained a vehicle/equipment replacement program.

This replacement program sees the acquisition of new vehicles and equipment, replacing vehicles that were up to 28 years old.

The replacement program continues to result in cost savings and staff efficiencies.
