Green purchasing

Green purchasing means

buying smart. Shop with the

environment in mind that is,

buy products that help con-

the products you buy, you

can make a difference in

protecting the environment.

Buy durable products: Instead of buying disposable products, which are wasteful, buy things that will last a long time, such asrechargeable batteries and reusable plasticmugs for drinks.Share with friends: Another way to saveresources and energy is to swap with friendsand family instead of buying brand-newproducts. Buy recycled: Buying items made with

recycled-content materials means thatfewer natural resources, such as trees, were used to produce the products.

Your purchasing choices affectwhat your parents buy: Yourparents buy groceries and other

items based on your likes anddislikes, your friends also listento what you have to say whenthey decide what to buy. Useyour influence to help othersshop smart and protect theenvironment.

Final Exams

11

My brother Abdullah and Iare preparing for the final

exams. I have several tips toassist you with your exams

* We have got to reviseall our lessons and imagine

ourselves in the examroom.

* It is recommendedto drink a cup of warmmilk before we go to

bed.

* We need to bequiet and stress-free.

* In the exam hall we have to read & understandlessons well before starting answering, while

maintain the exam sheets clean.

* We must not hastily handoverthe answer sheets, but have rather

to verify solutions & answers.

* More important, preoccupation with theexams must not make us overlook the safety

rules of boarding the bus or crossing the road.

* We have to take a good night sleep (8hours per day on the average), get up early.

Always remember that the best timing forrevision is the early morning hours.

1.Start by collecting some colorful fall leaves inall kinds of shapes and sizes. Bring them homeand lay them out on the kitchen table. Wipe offany dirt on the leaves.

2.Cut two circles (of the same size) out of the waxpaper. Arrange some of the leaves on one of thecircles. Make sure the waxy side is up. Lay theother one on top, waxy side down. The leaves willnow be sandwiched between the two layers ofwax paper with the waxy side facing the leaves.

3.Put your wax paper circles on an old towel andcover it with the towel as well. Then use the iron tomelt the waxy part of the wax paper. We use thetowel to protect the iron - otherwise some of the waxwould burn into your iron.

4.Let the leaf sun catcher cool, then poke a hole in thetop, add some string and hang it in a window.

A family of coloured foxes lived in a nice place of the jungle.

After a long wait, the family big day happiness came afterthe graduation of the two red and grey foxes from the col-lege. To mark the occasion, uncle Fox bought a nice car.

However, the problem was that each fox has different traits & habits. The Red Fox is rash, temperamental and impatient, whereas the Grey Fox is quiet, orderly, patient and likable.

One day the two foxes went in their new vehicle, with the Red

Fox on the driving wheel.

Once the Red Fox crossed the yellowsignal, he spotted in the vehicle’s internal

mirror the jungle police rushing in andordering them to stop.

Drive slowly, thered signal turned yellowand you have to slowdown and prepare for

stopping.

Forgetabout this, we

only stop at the redsignal.

Slow down mybrother, you are

driving at a crazyspeed.

Don’t you knowI’m in a hurry as I have

You’ve breached thelaw, and you ought to

slow down and stop at theyellow signal.

I have took part in the traffic awareness program and benefited a lot fromvisiting Rashid Hospital Trauma Center as part of a programs organizedby RTA’s Traffic Awareness Section. I understood that most of the run-overaccidents were caused by over-speeding cars. It is for this reason that Iadvised my father and brother to always slow down to give way topedestrians to cross the road safely.

As a result, I fell down and sustained bruises on parts of my body. After joining the traffic awareness team I benefited from the golden ruleand cooperated with my colleagues in organizing students’ awarenessprogram on the rules of getting in and out of school bus and being care-ful when crossing the road.

When I went out on a weekendpicnic with my father I noticed that many motoristsdid not comply with the traffic rules and regulations, particularly when they suddenly access the roadwithout paying attention to the crossing pedestrians. This carelessness causes frequent run-over acci-dents at schools.
