There should be something revelatory about art. It should be totally creative and open doors for new thoughts and experiences.
Tracey Emin

Damien Hirst Many of the Young British Artists were graduates from the BA Fine Arts Course at Goldsmiths College, at that time located in Camberwell. Graduates included world-renowned artist Damien Hirst, famous for his butterfly and kaleidoscope paintings.
Camberwell College of Arts Camberwell continues to lure artistic talent with Camberwell College of Arts located nearby, its list of notable alumni are testament to the calibre of talent emerging through its doors with many graduates achieving international prominence within their field.
Camberwell’s reputation as a creative and artistic hub is secure; it has been at the heart of a thriving art scene since the late 1980s during the emergence of the Brit Art scene.
Camberwell Arts Festival Camberwell also embraces the arts in a broader context, regularly hosting a variety of galleries, theatres and pop up exhibitions. The South London Gallery is a widely acclaimed contemporary art gallery, which presents blockbuster exhibitions from big-name artists including Tracey Emin.
The annual Camberwell Arts Festival provides a first-hand opportunity to see art and innovation flourish. Running for over 20 years, this hugely varied festival includes open artists’ studios, student art shows, markets and fairs. Always buzzing, the area becomes positively electric during this week-long extravaganza.

Café cultureCamberwell offers all the usual shopping amenities you would expect from a thriving London neighbourhood.
Butterfly Walk A number of high street stores are located in the Butterfly Walk shopping arcade, near Denmark Hill Station. Giving the area its edge are a number of quirky independent outlets. Specialising in everything and anything from fashion to food, these outlets encapsulate the varied cultures that make up Camberwell.
Camberwell to Peckham The restaurants in the area are diverse with independent cafés sitting next to spit-and-sawdust pubs and stylish bars sharing space with fast food outlets. Along Church Street, the main artery that runs through Camberwell to Peckham, a host of charming pubs and arty bars continue to appear.
A few of the highlights include The Camberwell Kitchen – a gluten free supper club whose venue is only disclosed when you make a reservation and Angels and Gypsies, a small independent Spanish tapas bar whose cosy interior comes complete with restored church pews, exposed brickwork and stained glass features. The Pigeon Hole, a small but beautifully designed café that doubles as a second-hand furniture shop and Queens, which is every bit the archetypal hipster hangout.
It was time for a change and the opportunity presented itself to combine our love for design and food.
