Brussels, Belgium was the setting for the the2017 instalment of SITA’s lively air transport summit. Once again, the event was an IT extrava-ganza highlighting the technologies that will shape the aviation indus-try, and how airlines and airports can respond to current and fu-ture challenges.

A new world of mixed reality is emerging and SITA Lab, the re-search arm of air transport IT provider SITA, is ex-ploring its potential for airlines and airports. At a press conference in Brussels, SITA released early results of research carried out with Helsinki Airport using Microsoft HoloLens to analyse and manage airport opera-tions in a mixed reality environment.

HoloLens is the world’s first self-contained holographic computer, enabling users to engage with digi-tal content and interact with holo-grams in the world around them. It runs Windows 10, and enables the blending of the physical and digital

worlds in ways that were previ-ously impossible. SITA worked with Helsinki Airport to use HoloLens to reproduce the airport operational control centre (AOCC) in this mixed reality environment.

For this project SITA Lab used a feed

when using a shared IT infrastructure. SITA AirportConnect Common Use Payment Service enables payment transactions by multiple airlines on a single payment terminal. Importantly, this is possible with any, and all, of the departure control systems the airlines choose to use.

Airlines use common-use or shared IT infrastructure at airports around the world and this ground-breaking solution has been developed by SITA to support airlines that wish to accept payments at common-use check-in desks, kiosks and bag drop areas for baggage fees, upgrades and other ancillary charges. SITA’s new solution uniquely combines point-to-point encryption (P2PE) technology, with Europay, Mastercard, Visa (EMV) and Payment Card Industry (PCI) compliant chip card payment termi-nals, applications and processes, to allow multiple merchants to use the same terminal while meeting PCI security standards.

MRO & PRODUCTION NEWSaviation aircraft. What’s more, PW306A engine customers who enrol in an Eagle Service Plan (ESP) pay-per-hour pro-gram will benefit from the service at no addi-tional cost for the rest of the year. The solution will be part of the standard ESP program for PW306A engines starting in 2018.P&WC has developed and optimized an oil analysis program by working closely with op-erators, FBOs and aircraft OEMs. Many of them have taken part in an ongoing customer trials as early adopters to help diversify the oil sample base and calibrate the technology across a variety of P&WC engine models. To date, nearly 4,000 oil samples have been re-ceived across all engine families. With trials continuing on other engine models, the solu-tion will keep evolving as a knowledge base continues to grow.
