At a legal meeting of the Proprietors of Chichester held attt Hampton att ye house of Capt. Wingate November ye 10 by adiornment from November ye 6 In ye yeare 1727.

1. Voted that Col. Potter Weare be moderator for this meeting. 2. Voted that William Staniford be clark for ye year insuing chosen and sworn 3. Voted that Jethro Tilton and Ichabod Robe Serve as a Committee for ye town of Chichester and to

survey ye land and to lay out ye Township and Ichabod Roby go one of ye surveyors 4. Voted that Jethro Tilton and Ichabod Robe must have 10 shillings a day 5. Voted that ye Clark gett a book to enter the vote of ye town of Chichester in 6. Voted that the Charter be entered in ye book and all ye men names that are in ye Scutle to be entered in

the Book 7. Voted that Col Wear is to have 14 shillings for two days one day for going to Portsmouth and the other

day for meeting ye Committees of ye other Towns at Mr. Cottons 8. Voted that John Sanborn and Samuel Palmer and William Stanaford be a committee to mack up all ye

accounts and to receive all ye claims

To all people to whom these presents shall come: Greeting Know ye that we of our special knowledge and motions for the Encouragement of Settling a new Plantation by and with that advice and consent of our council have given and granted and by these presents as far as in us lies do give and grant equal shares on to Sundry of our Beloved Subjects whose names are entered in a Scuttle hereunto annexed that inhabit or shell inhabit within the said Grant within our province of New Hampshire all that tract of land went in the following bounds viz: To begin on the south West Side of the town of Barnsted and from thence running south westerly on the head of the town of Nottingham until 8 miles be accomplished and then Northwest 8 miles and then North east 8 miles and then south east by the said town of Barnsted to the place where it first began and that ye same be a Town Corporate by the name of Chichester to the persons aforesaid for ever to have and to hold the said

land to the said grantees and their heirs and assigns for ever and to such associates as they shall admit upon the following conditions 1. That the Proprietors within three years Build or Cause to be built 60 Dwelling Houses and Settle Families in the same and Cleave 3 acres of ground fit for planting or mowing and that each proprietor pay his proportion of the town charges when an so often as occasion requires ye same 2. That a Meeting House be built for Publick Worship of God within the term of four years. 3. That upon default of any particular proprietor in complying with the conditions of this Charter upon his part such delinquent proprietor shall forfeit his share of ye said land to the other Proprietors which shall be disposed of according to the major vote of ye

said Proprietors at a legal meeting. 4. That a Proprietors share be reserved for a parsonage and another for ye first minister of the gospel that shall be there settled and ordained and another Proprietors share for ye benefit of a school in ye said town provided nevertheless that ye peace with ye Indians continue for ye space of three years but if it should

happen that a war with ye Indians should Commence before the Expiration of the affore said term of three years that then ye said term of three years shall be allowed the Proprietors after ye expiration of the war for ye performance of the of affore said conditions rendering and paying therefore to us our heirs and successors or such officer or officers as shall be appointed to receive the same the annual ? rent or acknowledgment of 1 pound of hemp in ye said town on ye last Wednesday in March yearly for ever if demanded reserving also unto us our heirs and successors all mast trees growing on said tract of land according to acts of Parliament in that case made and provided and for ye better order rule and government of ye said town we do by these presents for ourselves our heirs and successors Grant unto the said men and inhabitants or those that shall inhabit said town that yearly and every year upon the second Wednesday in March forever shall meet to elect and choose by the major part of the Proprietors then Present Constable Selectmen and other town officers according to ye laws and usages of our aforesaid Province with Power Privileges and authority as other towns and town officers within our

afforesaid Province have an and enjoy and for ye notifying and calling of ye first town meeting we do hereby a appoint Peter Weare esq. John Sanborn and Jacob Freese to be the first selectmen and they to continue in said respective office as Selectmen until ye Second Wednesday in ye month of March which shall be in ye year of our Lord 1728 and until other selectmen shall be chosen and appointed in there Stead in such manner as in these presents expressed in testimony where of we have caused the seal I’ve hour said providence to be hereunto affixed witness John Wentworth esq. our lieutenant governor and Cmdr. In chief in and over our said province at our town of Portsmouth in our said province of New Hampshire ye 30th day of May in the 13th yeare of our Reigne anno Domine 1727 By order of his honor Lieut. Whereof several of the men chosen to layout ye Town of Chichester by Providence cannot go to do ye work. These are therefore to give notis to all ye Proprietors of said Town to meett att ye house of Mr Samuel Sedons in Hampton on Monday ye 23 Daye Instant att one of ye Clock afternoon to chuse other men in there Rooms and to joyne with ye other Towns in laying out ye New Towns if they see cause. Chichester 3. Voted the Committee have Power to hire what assistance they shall think needful to carry on ye

work of laying out ye Town of Chichester and this Committee to join with ye naboring Towns as they shall see cause in laying out of ye Towns

This is to give notis to all ye Proprietors of ye Town of Chichester that they meett on Tuesday ye 24th day of this instant December att ye House of Capt. Joshua Wingate in Hampton at 1 of ye clock afternoon to

chuse meett and suitable men forwith to lay out said town of Chichester according to Charter ye persons formally chosen for that work neglecting ye same December 20th 1728.

Staniford re a committee to lay out ye Town of Chichester 3. Voted that ye Committee is to have 10 shillings a day for laying of the town of Chichester 4. Voted that Ichabod Robe go a Surveyor to lay out ye Town of Chichester and to have 15 shillings a

daye 5. Voted that ye Committee call upon ye worke as soon as posable not exceeding Monday next if ye

wether be suitable 6. Voted that each committee have Power to hire a Pilate 7. Voted that upon ye Return of ye committee there shall be a meeting of ye Proprietors be called of ye

Town of Chichester (7)This is to give notice to all persons that have any right in ye Town of Chichester that they meet at ye house of Capt. Joshua Wingate in Hampton on Tuesday ye 28th of this instant January at 1 of ye clock afternoon to Pay these men that have bin to lay out said town and all Persons that have not paid there part of ye former charges to bring there money and where any person neglects to mack payment there rights maybe disposed of according to ye rule discribed in ye Charter and any other bisness that may be thought needful to be done at said the meeting Hampton January 15, 1728-9

Portsmouth 8. Voted that ye meetting be adjorned to ye seventh day of February next at 1 o’clock in ye afternoon

9. Voted that ye clark procure or a good bound book for ye Town of Chichester Samuel Marstin, Charles Stuard, Jeremiah Sanborn, and William Staniforth have received thare 6 pounds a pece for laying out ye Town of Chichester

(8) At a meeting of ye Proprietors of ye Town of Chichester December 24, 1728. We ye subscribers have been chosen buy ye said Proprietors to lay out or run ye Lines of ye said town of Chichester accordingly ye have done itt as followeth - beginning at a burch at ye south corner of Barnsted which we found marked on four sides and with ye letter Bow ye NE side of said tree and with other letters on said tree and we marked said tree with ye letters CB on ye S.W. Side of sd tree and with other letters on sd tree and with ye day of

ye month with date of year that we took our Departure from sd tree which was on January 4, 1728-9 and marked other trees near sd bounds then running 8 milles SW to a Beech tree which we marked on four sides and ye letters CB on ye NE Side of sd tree and with other letters on sd tree and ye day of ye month and ye date of ye year that we marked sd tree which was January 7, 1728/9 and marked other trees neare sd bounds then running 8 miles NW to a white oke tree which we marked on four sids and ye letters CB on ye NE side of said tre and with other letters on sd tree and with ye day of ye month and ye date of ye yeare that we marked sd tree which was January 8, 1728/9 and marked other trees near sd bounds and this we mack as our return. 1. Voted that Peter Weare esquire be moderator of this meeting 2. Voted that William Staniford be clark for ye year ensuing 3. Voted that Jethro Tilton be constable for ye year ensuing 4. Voted that Capt.Jabez Smith, Charles Stuard and Josiah Moulton Jr be selectmen for ye year ensuing 5. Voted that Capt. John Gilman and Peter Gilman be a committee to Trett with ye Proprietors of

Nottingham to see wether they will let us have a way through thare town to ye Town of Chichester

6. Voted that Peter Gilman, Samuel Marstin, Capt. John Gilman, and William Staniford be a committee to go to find a way through Nottingham to Chichester and to look out ye most convenient place for ye Settlement of ye said town of Chichester and so mark a way up to Chichester

Where as we whose names are under written were chose a committee to look out a way to Chichester and to look out a Convenient Place to Settle ye Town accordingly we have been out and Took our Departure from ye and of Bow Street in Nottingham at a great white Pine Tree marked on fore sides and so running Northwest half a Paynt more northerly or there about through Nottingham and then we run northwest about 2 miles where we come to Little Suncook River and there we think Convenient Place to Settle ye Town likewise have marked ye way up to sd river from Nottingham Fort John Gilman Samuel Marstin Petter Gilman William Staniford This is to Give Notice to all Persons that have any Right in ye Town of Chichester that they meett at ye ]House of Capt. Chichester 3. Voted that there be a Day appointed for all Persons which belong to Chichester to cleare ye way from

Nottingham to ye most Convenient Place for ye Settlement of ye Town in ye Bounds of Chichester att or near ye place that ye late committee hath narked and that thare be survaers chosen that shall keep an exact account of all ye person which would work and they shall be allowed six shillings a day and he that don’t go himself or send a good hand shall pay six shillings a day (Page 16) for every day ye company is out so as to make itt equal to every Right and ye money payed to be disposed of by vote of ye Proprietors and every man to provide to stay out a fortnight if ye work be not finished before and ye Servaers to Prosed accordingly and selectmen to give Public Notice thereof

4. Voted that ye eighth day of September next be ye day that ye Proprietors to go to cutt ye way through Nottingham to Chichester

5. Voted that Moses Black, Josiah Moulton, Samuel Marstin, Capt. Tilton and William Staniford be survaers to look after ye Cutting out a way yjtough Nottingham to ye most Convenient Place for ye settlement of ye said Town of Chichester

6. Voted that ye survaers have eight shillings a day apiece which is Ichabod Roby and Samuel Palmer 7. Voted that ye house lots be laid out in 20 acre lots

(11) At a legal meeting of the Proprietors of ye Town of Chichester held at ye House of Mr. Danells in Hampton Falls August 27, 1729

1. Voted Col. Peter Weare moderator of this meeting 2. Voted that ye men that gose along with ye survaers must have six shillings a day to layout ye House

lots of ye Town of Chichester 3. Voted that Mr. Robe go a sor to lay out ye house lots of ye Town of Chichester and ye servaer must

have 12 shillings a day for his work 4. Voted that a committee be chosen of three men to hire convenient men to go a long with ye servaers

to lay out ye house lotts of ye Town of Chichester and ye men to have six shillings a day. Col Weare, Capt. John Gilman, Capt Jabez Smith, are a committee to chuse ye men to go along with ye servaers

5. Voted that Jonathan Fifield, Mr Odiorne, Daniel Weare, and William Staniford be a committee to adjust ye accounts of ye Town of Chichester

6. Voted that a committee be chosen to see ye Place where to sett down ye Town of Chichester 7. Voted that ye Committee must have six shillings a day for to go see ye Place where to sett down ye

Town of Chichester and ye men that are chosen are Col. Weare, Capt. John Gilman, Deacon Moulton, Ichabod Robie

8. Voted that ye other servaer that shall go shall have butt 10 shillings a day that goes along with Mr. Robe

9. Voted upon ye return of ye Committee there shall be a meeting Called and all accounts shall be made up and adjusted

1. Voted Peter Weare esq. moderator of this meeting 2. Voted that Col Weare, Capt John Gilman, Icabod Robe, Capt Jabez Smith, Jasper Black and Decon

Moulton be a committee to go look out a Convenient Place for ye Settlement of Town Chichester and to lay out highways for ye Town and if any of ye Committee cannot go ye Rest of ye Committee are to put a man in his Roome out of ye Proprietors of ye Town

3. Voted that ye former committee Col. Wear, Capt. Gilman, Ichabod Robe. Capt. Smith. Decon Moulton and Jasper Black, be a committee to lay out highways and ye Center of ye Town and 20 acre lott to each of ye Proprietors in ye Town and if any of ye Committee shall faill ye other of ye Committee are to put a man in his Room out of ye Proprietors of ye Town

4. (12)Voted the committee that are chosen to lay out the house lots, the highways and the center of the town must have it eight shillings a day and the surveyor Mr. Robie to have 12 shillings a day for their work in laying out the highways and the house lots

5. Voted that the men that cutt the highway from Nottingham to Chichester must have two shillings a day added to their wages for each man for their work in cutting out the highway

Mr. Richard Jennis dissents against this fifth vote This is to give notice to ye Proprietors of ye Town of Chichester that they meet at ye House of Capt. Wingate in Hampton on Tuesday ye 23rd of this instant December at one of ye clock afternoon to see if they will except of ye Return of ye Committee of laying out a convenient Place for ye Center of ye Town and laying out ye house lots and highways and to pay ye Committee for their work and also to pay ye men for cutting ye way from Nottingham to ye above said Town and ye other persons yet are behind of paying ye former charges are to pay all of ye money yet is due so yet they and all ye other Proprietors of said Town may draw for their lots and to do something yet may be proper for a speedy settlement of ye Town and to do any other thing yet may be for ye benefit of ye Proprietors of said Town

1. Voted Col. Weare moderator of this meeting 2. Voted that the Proprietors of Chichester do accept of the Return of the Committee that layed out the

house lots and the high ways and the Center of the Town where the Block house must stand 3. Voted that the parsonage lot No 26 and the Ministers lot No 13 and the school lot No 50 and the mill

lot at Nilus No 20 and the mill lot at Little Suncook No 61 they are not to be drawn for 4. Voted that the Proprietors do accept of the accounts that are adjusted by the Committee whose

names are Mr Jotham Oddihorn, Daniel Weare and Mr. Wm. Staniford 5. Voted that the meeting is adjourned to the first day of January next at 10 of the clock at the house

Capt. Wingate in Hampton (13)January 1, 1729 by adjournment of the meeting to the house of Capt. Wingate

6. Voted that Governour Wentworth shall have the 27 lot in Number for his home lot in the Town of Chichester

7. Voted that all persons that are not here that are of the Proprietors of the town of Chichester that the votes that are not drawn for shall be sealed up till the next annual Meeting and that then the absent Proprietors that are not here may have opportunity to draw for their lots

8. Voted that Lieut. Sherburn be repaid he Is 10 shillings back again that he paid for the Lieutenant Governor

9. Voted that the Petition of the Proprietors of the Town be preferred to the Governor and Council by Mr. Dennet and Capt. Thomas Peirce

10. Voted that the clark must have 30 or 35 schilling’s out of the money that is now paid for to procure a book for to enter the Records of the Town in

11. Voted that the Money that is now paid be equally divided amongst the men that have done the work for the Town in cutting the way and laying out the house lots

12. Voted that Ichabod Robie, Josiah Moulton, and William Staniford divide the money that is paid equally amongst the labourers according to the work that they have done.

At a meeting of ye Proprietors of ye Town of Chichester October 6, 1729 We ye Subscribers being chosen to go to the said Town and pitch on a convenient place for to set ye Meeting House or Block house and to search out convenient highways in order to lay out house lots

Accordingly we have done it in ye South quarter of said Township in the following order: Firstly we have laid out a highway beginning at Suncook about 40 rods below where little Suncook runs into the main river and runs as followeth:

First course runs ESE 300 Rods. Second course SE 100 Rods. Third course E 240 Rods. Fourth course SE 170 Rods. This course ESE a mile and a 100 Rods and other highways as it is hereafter mentioned. Secondly we have laid out a piece of land for ye Center or Meeting house place about a mile upwards on the 5th course on ye highway above mentioned ye said highway runs through ye Center of sd piece of land ye side lines are 55 Rods long and runs parrallel with sd highway and ye end lines are 45 Rods long sd piece of land is a Rhomboids and ye acute angles contains 67 deg and 30 min. Sd angles are the W & E Angles (14) Thirdly we have laid the house lots as followeth each lot contains 20 acres. The first two ranges are pounded on ye fifth course of ye above mentioned high way and bounding ye lots on both sides of said highway, 18 lots on each side of sd way ye lots are 22 rods wide on sd way except 2 on each side yet buts on ye Center and are 140 Rods long

with number one then from said trees which trees are four rods distanc each from the other on a north east and by North and Southwest and by South point of the compass which is the course that divides one lot from the other through the whole division. We run north east and half of one point more northerly up said Canterbury Road that being the course of said road nearest and when we had so run 50 rods then we marked a tree that stood to rods distance North east and by North from the aforesaid north west half north line with the number one again and then four rods distance from said last mentioned tree South west and by south we numbered a tree number one also then we went on Northwest half north 50 rods and Mark a tree that stood 2 rods distance from said northwest half north line with number two and over against said tree 2 rods from said line, we numbered another tree with the number two and then 50 rods and numbered two other trees standing in the course and distance as the trees before described with number three in each of said trees. All the numbers are in figures and we laid out 17 lots on each side

Page 73 Said Canterbury Road the numbers increasing from 1 to 17 as afore mentioned. Then we returned to the two trees first mentioned in this return and run south west and by South 166 rods and they’re marked a tree with the letters HW for a highway. Then four rods for said way and then measured 160 and 6 rods and then marked a tree again with the letters HW and then run up Northwest half north a tree before. We began to run north west half north with the numbers one two. Both numbers on one tree the number one on the north east side of said tree and number two on the south west Side of said tree and then run 50 rods and marked another tree with one two as aforesaid then 50 rods and marked another tree with the numbers three four then 50 rods and marked a tree five six and so on to number 34 and the road hereof 4 rods wide. It lays on the south west side of the number and spotted trees and then we returned again to the trees first mentioned in this return standing on Canterbury Road and from the tree that stands on the

Page 74 North east side of said to Canterbury Road we run north east and by north 166 rods and marked a tree with the letters HW and then measured 4 rods for the road all the roads that are upon the north east side of Canterbury Road which is the road between the third and fourth Range lays on the north east side of the spotted and numbered trees. All the eight ranges begin their numbers at the south east end thereof and in course their numbers as they go north westward. The first range are all even numbers from 2 to 34 the second range from number 1 to 33 all odd numbers range. The third is numbered from 1 to 17 both even and odd numbers. Range number 4 is likewise. Range number five is numbered from 2 to 28 all even numbers. Range number six is numbered from 1 to 27 all odd numbers. Range Number seven is numbered from 2 to 28 all even numbers. Range number eight is numbered from 1 to 27 all odd numbers. All the lots are numbered at each and are 166 rods long and 50 rods

Page 75 wide. The ranges are numbered from the south west to the north east. Range number one is the south westerly Range. Then next is range number two. Then next is range three which lays on Canterbury Road on the south west side thereof and so on north eastward. The second cross road which is for lots distance from the road last mentioned is four rods broad to and where said road crosses Canterbury Road there is a Center Square of about 4 acres which takes off a corner from each of the four lots adjoining to said roads. The Center Square is to extend 25 rods on the end of each of said four lots and 25 rods on the side each of said for lots adjoining two said roads and then extending a straight

The return of the second and third division of lots

We the subscribers being chose as a committee by the Proprietors of the Township Chichester in April 1750 to run out the boundary lines of send town and to lay out to 50 acre lots to each proprietor. We run out the boundary lines of said town in part the lines we run out including the whole said Township according to Charter are as follows. Viz: We begin at the formally South easterly corner of Chichester and run

Page 89 N 33 degrees 45 minutes and 6 miles and then N67 degrees 30 minutes for 4 miles and 40 rods then S 33 W 45 for four mmiles then N 45 degrees and to Barnsted six miles and 108 rods and then S 33 degrees 45 minutes and to the end of the first line we run for a clearer explanation we refer to the plan sent in with this return. We then proceeded to lay out the lots in the following order. Viz: we began at the Pine where the former committee began to layout the home lots and run S 36° 15 minutes East 40 rods and numbered a tree N1 then 40 rods for the second lot then 40 rods for third lot and then to the third line we had run which was 56 rod for the 4 lot. These lots are to run to the river then we went to the place where the lower line of the house lots crossed the river and run N33° 45 minutes and 160 rods and numbered a tree N8 and then run S 56° 15E to the we mentioned before and divided it into four lots each to run to the river then we run N 33=45E on said line 160 rod and number a tree N9 and then run N56=15 to the said lower line and divided it into 4 lots then on said lower line N33=45E 160 rods then S56=45E until

Page 90 we come square with the Sd third line itt being 24 rods from the end of itt. We divided this into 4 lots N13 these lots run parrallel with the Home lots and are numbered from 1 to 16 as may be seen in the Plan Nexly. We laid out all the land below the river in the following manner Viz We began att the corner between the second and third Lines that we Run and Run N33=45E until we Come to the River and laid out all the land betwen the Sd line and the River into three lots as followeth Viz: we began att the NEast Cornor of the 16 lots and Run 160 rods on Sd line then N56=15W 54 rods and numbered a tree N17 then the Same Corse to the River which was 40 rods and number a tree No 18 NB. The 17 lote is to Run the Same Corse with those before mentioned and all the land between the 17 lots and those 16 lots and the River is allowed for the 18 lot and all the land between the 17 and 18 lots and the line before mentioned that we run from the Cornor to the River and the River is allowed for the 19 lot. Then we laid out all the rest below the river into Seven Ranges of lots and one single lot. The Ranges Run parallel with Barnsted line that is S45 degrees E. and begin their number att said

Page 91 line and out all 164 rods wide the first Excepted which is about 210 rods wide. The lots are 50 rods wide some few Excepted and are all Numbered att the Southermost End an are to run N33 (D)=45(M)E. They begin there Number N1 by the River in the first Range and Proceed to N 140 in the same order that thay are in the Plan. The 20th lot is about 120 rods wide the 21st is 65 rod wide and the 22nd is 55 rod wide. The 42nd is about 80 rods wide 50 below and 30 above the River. This is the only lot it Croseth the River in all the Ranges. The 43rd lot is 80 rods wide the 44th is 60 rod wide the 68 is 60 (69) rods wide the 88 is 60 rod’s wide att the S Westerly End of the 89th is 110 rod wide at the N East end 90th is 70 and the 91st is 60 rod wide and 113th it is a Triangle and it is 240 rods long on the Second line we run the 114th is 80 rods the 115th is 60 rods on said line the 136 is 54 rods wide the 137th is 62 and the 138th is 86 rods wide and the 139th is to Contain all the land in this range between the 138th and the 116th lots. The 140th lot is a triangle and Contains all the land between the Seventh Range and the said second line and the above Said line that runs from the Cornor to the River. Then we laid out

Six Ranges above the river all which would run parrallel with Barnsted line and run from the River to the N East line we Run to Barnsted these ranges are 164 rods wide and begin their number att Barnsted line The lots are all 50 rods wide the uper lot in Each Range and Sum lots by the River Excepted. The lots are numbered at the South Westerly end and run Parrallel with those below the river N33=45 East the 16th lot is 79 the 17th is 65 the 45th is 80 the 46th is 70 please 77th is 65 and the 78th is 65 rods wide att thare Southwesterly Ends the Southwesterly Bounds of the 32 lot is about 4 rods from the River and all the land between a line run N33=45E from Said Bounds to the Second Range and the river is allowed for the 32 lots the lenth breth and Corners of the 59th lot is same with the other lots only itt layes lengthways with the Ranges the 60 lot Contains all the land between a line Runs N33=45E from the Bounds between the 59 and the 60 lots to the River and the River itt being 100 rods wide at the Southwesterly End the Southwesterly Cornor of the 61st lot is 34 rods from the River and Contains all the land in that Range between the River and a line run N33=45E from said Bounds to the fourth Range the Southwesterly Bounds of the 93rd lot is

There is a road of 4 rods wide the Southerly Side of the marked trees between the Every Range both above and below the River and one of 4 rods wide the Northwesterly side of the marked trees of the before mentioned third line (70) from Canterbury Path to the Southwesterly cornrr of the 90th lot below the River and one of four rods wide from the River above it to the 88th lot to the River where the 41 lot the Crose Roads are all 2 rods wide and are the South Easterly side of the Numbered trees as are in the Plan in all the Ranges above and below the River the roads in the lots Elow the Home lots are the Southwesterly side of the Numbered trees between the same lots that thay are marked in the Plan NB. runs throug Chichester to Canterbury the Said Road to be 12 feet wide and to be built all proper Bridges and Causways wheare needed so as for a Loaded Cart to pass without Hindrances or by Stumps and said Thomas Rand is to have Said Road Compleated within three months from this Date and Said Road is to be paid by the treasurer of Said Chichester 170 pounds old Tenor when Said Road is compleated

5. Voted that Capt Jeremiah Sanburn and Mr Reuben Sanburn be a Committee to over Look and see when Mr Thomas Rand has complied with the above Vote in Clearing out the above Road through Chichester and if not done according to the above Vote Said Rand is to have nothing for his labor

Page 186 (129)The obligation or Convayance of the Mill Privilege to Joseph Frost Esq and Capt John Cram – Know all Men by these Presents that we Jeremiah Sanborn, John Lamprey and Josiah Shaw all of Hampton in the Province of New Hampshire on the one Part as a Committee Chose by the Proprietors of Chichester at a Legal Meeting in March Last Past to agree with any Person or Persons that would undertake to Build a Saw mill and Grist mill in Chichester in Such a Term of Time and under Such Restrictions and obligations as is mentioned in Said meeting and finding some things was not so fully Expresed there being another meeting Called the 12th day of November Last past to strengthen the former Votes and their Appears Joseph Frost Esq of Newcastle and John Cram of Raymond Gentlemen both of the Province aforesaid on the other part –Doth Covenant and Agree with the said Committee aforesaid to Build the Two mills in Chichester on the Great Suncook River so called the Privilege being in the fourth
