    ADBs policy on Gender and Development adopts gender mainstreaming as a key strategy forpromoting gender equality and womens empowerment in all ADB operations. ADBs long termstrategic framework, Strategy 2020 includes Gender Equity as one the five drivers of changenecessary towards achieving a poverty free Asia and Pacific region. The Corporate ResultsFramework 2013 includes gender targets and requires that 45% of all operations and 55% of AsianDevelopment Fund operations to be gender mainstreamed by 2016. The Gender Equality andWomens Empowerment (GEWE) Operational Plan 2013-2020, emphasizes the need forstrengthening mechanisms that help integrate gender equality measures in project design as well asimprove quality of implementation, monitoring and reporting. The overarching objective of theworkshop is to sensitise the participants on the need for gender mainstreaming within sectors. Theaim is to strengthen capacities of senior project officials to achieve improved implementation andmonitoring of gender equality component within projects and quality reporting of gender equalityresults. The workshop will also promote lateral learning through peer to peer experience sharing onGovernment of India, State Governments and ADB project related good practices on gendermainstreaming and the achievements.
