Training of District Trainers for ASHA Module 5, 6 & 7
State Training Agency – Janani
Inauguration on: 18th Jan 2012 Completion of 1st and 2nd batch on: 3rd of Feb 2012.
About programme: One of the key components of National Rural Health Mission is to provide every village a trained female community health worker ASHA or Accredited Social Health Activists, selected from the village itself. ASHAs will be trained to work as an interface between the community and the public health system. In this regard, State Training Agency has initiated training on Module 5, 6, & 7 for ASHA Trainers and ASHAs with the support of State Training Agency and District Training Agency. Janani as State Training Site: Tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) Signed between State Health Society, Government of Bihar, National Health System Resource Center (NHSRC), for technical support institution with National Rural Health Mission, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India And Janani.
Role of Janani is to roll out of ASHA Module 5, 6, & 7 training in the state of Bihar to train ASHA trainers. We will be working as Training Institute and Training site for assigned Districts- Patna, Buxar, Bhojpur, Nalanda, Vaishali, Rohtas Bhabhua, Gaya, Navada, Jhanabad, Aurangabad, and Arwal. We will be training 410 participants from given districts. Janani will also function as the extended technical support of NHSRC for ensuring quality training and support for ASHA trainers. There will be three stages of training for 410 ASHA Trainers from 12 Districts. Round 1- 17 Days Round 2 -7 Days Round 3-4 Days

Refresher Training for MTs on 2nd Jan to 5th Jan 2012: There was a long time gap for Master Trainers (MTs) between their training at Garhchirauli, Maharasta and this training. Therefore, we felt that there is high need for refresher training before we could start ASHA trainers training. Hence, ASHA Resource Center arranged the refresher training to Master Trainers at our own premises (Janani). In the refresher training all four State Training Agencies- Janani, PHRN, PFI and Caritas India participated. Also, IL&FS and Gandhi Kusth Nivaran

Pratisthan District Training Agency representatives were part of 4 days training programme. ASHA TOT Training Process: Training started with a formal inauguration function held at Janani Conference Hall on the first day of the training. Ms. Vasudha Gupta, Team Leader, ARC Bihar, Mr. Shejo Bose, PD, Janani and District Training Agencies’ representative graced the event and addressed the participants. Training plan and calendar was developed for conducting training of ASHA Trainers from the allocated districts, in consultation with NHSRC and SHS Bihar. The lost of nominated ASHA trainers was worked out in consultation with SHS/ARC. Of the training of ASHA trainers was based on the ASHA training Strategy, ensuring that the quality of the training is maintained as specified by NHSRC. On the last day of training, district specific training plan /calendar was developed to support the ASHA trainers and District Training Agencies from allocated districts. Seventeen days training was completed with the celebration through a cultural event on the last day of training.
Participatory Training Method: During 17days we ensured that our training should be completely participative and interactive. ASHA trainers shared their views, questions and disagreements regarding certain issues without hesitation. It was actively participative Batch.

Evaluation: We also evaluated the trainees in all six skills to ensure their competencies. As these ASHA trainers have to start their training to their respective district we focused on the quality of training to prevent transmission loss. Up to date practice sessions and tests were taken as per scheduled plan/calendar keeping in vision of the programme to carry quality and consistency of the training process Scope for Selection of Master Trainers: Due to shortage of Master Trainers we stick to two batches. Therefore, as per discussion on this regard with Mr. Sanjay Kumar, ED, SHS and Ms. Vasudha Gupta Team Leader ARC we will try to come out with some really good trainers to be a future Master Trainers during TOT training. Next Step: After Completion of First Round, 17 day’s residential training pass out participants will go back and immediately start their training to ASHA at their respective districts. Second Round, seven days training will commence only after all 410 ASHA trainers will receive training in first round of seventeen days training. Later, Third Round, four days training programme will conclude final stage of training. Pass out candidates will be honored by certification from combined State Health Society and Janani.
