Booster Club is off and running. Welcome back sports fans & players! Football, Volleyball, Soccer and Cross County players are hard at work!

Sport Schedules are posted on the school’s website if you want to catch some of the action! We have stellar athletes here at

Florence!!

Booster Club has many irons in the fire! The remodel on the football concession stand is complete. It looks very nice inside

thanks to Dale and Doreen Roos, Corey West, Scott Thrasher, Ken and Jane Dragoo, Travis and Leslie Zahn and many others

for your time and material donations!

Foyer Facelift: Boone Nelson and some seniors are re-doing the trophies, rearranging, and dusting the plaques and trophies. If they need any materi-

als then Booster Club will be looking for some donations and help with this project.

Booster club bought lock boxes or safes for the students to purchase. They are $40.00 and it’s theirs to keep. They come with keys and a cable. We

have 30 safes on sale now to see what the students want to do. We can have something built that the cable attaches too in the locker rooms or maybe

the students want to keep them with them in their lockers, or cars, or on the bus to away games? We are just trying to help keep their smaller per-

sonal items from getting stolen. If your child has had a problem with things disappearing, please consider purchasing a lock box. Call and we will

get one to you.

Fill dirt is needed for the hole next to the football field and softball field. We are looking so someone to haul and load if we get a call. We have got-

ten a few calls but need someone to head this up. We would like to make this a practice field at some point!

Falcon wear is on sale! HOMECOMING is soon! We need to get rid of the older to get the new. Be kind to your behind and back and buy a

Stadium seat $40. If interested please call.

We are still selling gym sponsorship signs: Large $250.00 first year and $125.00/year thereafter. Small signs are $50 and $25/year thereafter. Infor-

mation posted on the school’s website under Booster Club or contact Becky at 406-544-8281. If you currently have a sign, renewals time is coming

soon! Be looking for your invoice.

We are planning some special Family Events throughout the year. The golf tournament was a hit this past spring and now onto Family Bingo Night

on Wednesday, November 18, 2015 and an Alumni Basketball Game! Stay tuned for the details. We would like to thank all those that par-

ticipated and helped with the annual golf tournament in May! Your contributions were very much appreciated!

Booster Club will ONLY be handling the Football/Softball Concessions this year. We have turned the foyer concession stand back to the students

to manage.

If you have a student in Florence-Carlton High School that participates in sports, YOU are a Sport Booster! Our mission is to aid in the continued

growth and development of the Athletic Programs at FCS to help foster increased athleticism, leadership, school spirit and pride in the Students in-

volved in the programs and in our GREAT community!

Beginning the school year can be a hassle. Coming back to school, getting engaged in

sports, juggling other extracurricular activities, and getting used to a new academic sched-

ule can be a nightmare, especially coming in as a freshman. This school year the Florence

student council is trying to make that “back to school feeling” a little more relaxed. During

the second week of class an annual ice cream social was put on by the council to encour-

age freshmen to consider serving their classmates in student government

Crowds of freshmen gathered in the new gym foyer to enjoy ice cream and pick up student

council petitions. Many ice cream bars were handed out but only a few petitions were tak-

en and then turned in by brave students to the council’s advisor, Mr. Kuchel. A vote then

took place the day after forms were due to elect new student council representatives for the

freshman class. Three new students were elected, Danara Greer, Zach Henderson, and Na-

talie Dulac.

Not only is there a swarm of new freshman faces, but last spring, student council held elec-

tions for sophomore, junior, and senior representatives, as well as a president, vice presi-

dent, secretary, and treasurer.

The members of the new student council are preparing for many upcoming projects in an

attempt to make the daily lives of students at FCHS better. An honors lunch, with delicious

food catered by Caffe Firenze, a welcome back lunch for teachers, and holiday projects

including a school/community food drive and a shopping spree for select elementary stu-

dents are just a few of the things in store for our Falcons.

In all, the 2015-16 members are showing incredible promise. The new school year will un-

doubtedly carry with it an abundance of achievements and surprises, all thanks to the new

members of student council.

ANNUAL ASBESTOS NOTIFICATION TO PARENTS, STUDENTS, AND EMPLOYEES OF THE FLORENCE-CARLTON SCHOOL

(Required by the Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools Rule, §§ 763.84(c) and 763.93(g)(4))

Asbestos is a naturally-occurring fibrous mineral which, until about 1980, was commonly used in building construction. Asbestos will not burn, is

an excellent insulator, has great tensile strength, is resistant to chemicals, is a nonconductor of electricity, and absorbs sound. Examples of asbestos-

containing building material (ACBM) are vinyl floor tile, sprayed-on acoustical ceiling material, pipe and boiler insulation, and roofing felt. As

ACBM deteriorates over time, or is disturbed by maintenance, renovation, or demolition activities, it may become friable, i.e., it is capable of being

reduced to powder by hand pressure. When ACBM becomes friable, asbestos fibers are released into the air. Inhalation of these airborne, micro-

scopic asbestos fibers has been proven to cause such fatal diseases as lung cancer, mesothelioma (cancer of the lining of the lung or abdominal

cavity), and asbestosis (scarring of lung tissues). Uncontrolled asbestos contamination in buildings has been, and remains, a significant environ-

mental and public health issue. In 1986, Congress enacted the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) to require public and private,

secondary and elementary schools to identify ACBM in their school buildings and take appropriate actions to control the release of asbestos fibers.

In 1987, the US Environmental Protection Agency finalized a regulatory program which enforces the AHERA mandate. These regulations are in-

corporated within the Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools Rule (40 C.F.R. Part 763, Subpart E).

In compliance with the Asbestos-Containing Materials in Schools Rule, the Florence-Carlton School had its school buildings inspected by an asbes-

tos inspector, accredited by the State of Montana. During that inspection, areas of suspect ACBM were identified. The type, condition, and location

of this ACBM was noted. In previous inspection, samples were taken of some or all of the suspect ACBM. Laboratory analysis of these samples

confirmed the presence or absence of ACBM. Suspect ACBM not sampled and analyzed were assumed to contain asbestos. Confirmed and/or as-

sumed ACBM currently remain in certain locations in our school buildings. For example, there is mudded pipe joint insulation in the boiler room,

the heat exchanger room below the stage and above some of the classrooms of the high school wing. There is thermal system insulation on some of

our school’s heat exchangers. Furthermore, we have 9” X 9” vinyl tile and linoleum in many parts of the school, though much of it has been cov-

ered by carpet. Also, cement asbestos board can be found in several places around the outside of our main building. We also have vermiculite in

many of our exterior cinderblock walls and asbestos vibration collars on three air handlers in or near the old gym. The District Office has sheetrock,

taping material, joint compound and linoleum, all assumed to contain asbestos. Asbestos is assumed to be present in such building materials as cove

base molding and mastic in the upper primary wing, the lower primary building, and the old high school wing. Finally, asbestos is assumed to be

present in the laboratory table tops and the lab hood of the biology classroom, as well as in the ceiling tiles of the old primary wing.

Upon confirmation of the presence of ACBM, an Asbestos Management Plan was developed for each of the school buildings in the school by an

asbestos management planner, accredited by the State of Montana. The Asbestos Management Plans include a description of the measures currently

being taken to ensure that the ACBM remaining in our school buildings is maintained in a condition that will not pose a threat to the health of our

students and employees. These Plans describe past response actions taken to abate ACBM, as well as response actions planned for the future. The

Asbestos Management Plans provide information on the periodic monitoring of the condition of ACBM remaining in our school buildings through

triennial re-inspections, conducted by accredited asbestos inspectors, and through semiannual surveillance, conducted by trained school mainte-

nance staff.

A copy of the Asbestos Management Plans is available for your review in the school District Office during regular office hours. Dennis M. Burns is

the designated Asbestos Program Coordinator for the school. Please direct all inquiries regarding the Asbestos Management Plans to him at

telephone 273-6751 ext. 436.

Students in Mrs. Verlanic’s class love to hold and care for their classroom pets. Every Friday, the children get to have an “animal encounter time” when the students can interact with and hold the animals. These photos show Big Green, the tortoise, Leopard and Cheetah which are leopard geck-os. Mr. Weber’s tarantula, Rosey, also continues to fascinate children with her intricate move-ments. Students have an opportunity to be the animal monitor in class. The animal monitor is re-sponsible for feeding the animals and making sure they have water.

Boosters and Community Members Working to Build Practice Field

The Florence Booster Club has been working to build a practice field east of the football field and south of the softball field. The first phase of moving the existing piles was done by Duane Zeiler. J & J Excavating then began hauling dirt in for fill. The Pumnea family brought a bulldozer over to move that dirt. The area will eventually be leveled off for planting. Thanks to all who have con-tributed fill dirt or equipment to move the dirt! Contractors who have clean fill can contact the district office to make arrangements for dumping it.

Equal Education, Nondiscrimination and Sex Equity The District will make equal educational opportunities available for all students without regard to race, color, national origin, ancestry, sex, ethnicity, language barrier, religious belief, physical or mental handicap or

disability, economic or social conditions, or actual or potential marital or parental status. No student, on the basis of sex, will be denied equal access to programs, activities, services, or benefits or be limited in the

exercise of any right, privilege, or advantage, or denied equal access to educational and extracurricular programs and activities.
