NHBC Training Prospectus Page 3
Welcome Our 2015-2016 training prospectus provides an overview of the courses and qualifications NHBC can provide for you or your organisation from 1 September 2015. In the 15 years since NHBC first set out to assist in the development of industry expertise by offering training and qualification programmes, we’ve seen over 40,000 individuals, representing many of the largest organisations in the industry, attend our courses. NHBC’s ongoing aim is to improve standards in home building, and our training ensures that you have access to the skills and accreditations needed to help achieve this.
In 2015, we have responded to industry needs by expanding the number of courses on offer and refining the content of existing courses. Our highly skilled trainers, all of whom bring a wealth of practical experience from a wide variety of construction roles, remain informed of industry developments and draw excellent feedback from awarding bodies and course attendees.
Those course attendees whose employer is in-scope to CITB are entitled to grant funding under the CITB Grants Scheme. Grant applications must be submitted directly to CITB via their website – more information on grants available can be obtained from CITB at citb.co.uk.
This prospectus has been designed to guide you through the structure, cost and suitability of our training schemes simply and effectively.

Lifting Operations
We’ve updated our very popular Trade Talks to reflect current construction methods. These one-hour talks are designed to highlight to trade and site operatives the most common reportable items or defects that NHBC inspectors and claims investigators encounter on residential developments. Delivered by NHBC building inspectors, each talk gives practical guidance on how to prevent these problems occurring with individual elements of a build.
The talks can be delivered on or near your site as long as a suitable room is available to seat the attendees – large site offices, canteens, nearly completed properties and show houses have been host to our Trade Talks in the past.

NHBC Training Prospectus - NVQs Page 13
In 2014, over 200 individuals were supported by NHBC throughout the completion of their NVQ qualification. The NVQs currently on offer are:
In the construction industry, NVQs are recognised as the benchmark qualification for proving occupational competence.
Our eleven expert assessors support a wide range of NVQs, and as well as benchmarking candidates’ competence, they work with them to develop their skills and knowledge through the assessment process. We conduct these assessments through a mixture of workplace visits and online support, minimising the impact on candidates’ working time.
Regardless of the qualification level, most candidates are expected to complete their NVQ in 9 to 12 months. However, it is not uncommon for learners to complete the process more quickly. All NVQs attract credits within the Qualification Credit Framework, meaning they can be used in the future towards other further or higher education courses.
