BLS-AED: Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation Description of the course Course title

• Basic Life Support and Automated External Defibrillation (BLS-AED). The newest guidelines (October 15th, 2015) of the European Resuscitation Council (ERC) are applied for this course.

Course objectives At the end of this course, that follows the 2015 guidelines of the ERC*, participants should be able to demonstrate:

• How to assess the collapsed victim • How to perform chest compression and rescue breathing (CPR) • How to operate an automated external defibrillator safely • How to place an unconscious breathing victim in the recovery position

• Chain of survival • Basic Life Support • Use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) (semi-automatic and fully automatic

defibrillators, adapted to the local needs) • Demonstrations and practical exercises • Evaluation of the ability to perform an effective BLS with or without an AED

First Aid Training

Since July 1st, 2018, only one type of first aid training course will be recognized by the Luxembourg authorities. This first aid course training course also meets the recommendations of the European Union. First aid training courses, formerly designated as basic course (28 hours) and refresher course (8 hours), will not be provided anymore. According the law and regulations in Luxembourg, the first aid refresher training course has also been replaced by this new first aid training course with a duration of 16 hours. Description of the course Course title

• First Aid Training Course objectives Though going further, this course meets the requirements of the national law of June 17th, 1994 on workers safety and security at working place and at the end the participants should be able to demonstrate:

• How to react facing a medical emergency using techniques proper to lay first aid responders according to the requirements of internal regulations, national and international law

This course will be rewarded by a certificate of attendance recognized by national and european authorities and ministries. Course program

• Wounds and wound care • Burn injuries • Bandages • Bleedings and bleeding-control • Alteration of the level of consciousness • Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation CPR of adults and demonstration of the use of an AED

Description of the course Course title

• First aid and emergency care facing sick children Course objectives This training course is for every person dealing, for private or professional reasons, with the child education or child care. Following specific needs, the different topics may be adapted to one or several age-related groups. Beyond simple first aid the course addresses typical childhood diseases and the ongoing care of a sick child. Course program

legal context of a “projet d’accueil individualisé (PAI)” Description of the course Course title Administration of emergency medication for chronically ill children in the legal context of a “projet d’accueil individualisé (PAI)” Course objectives This training provides information on legal context and procedures concerning the administration of emergency medication for chronically ill children in the legal as mentioned in the ministerial order, issued on 15th of October 2015, introducing “projet d’accueil individualisé (PAI)”. A review on procedures in order to be able to recognize a medical emergency and the application of specific drugs with inhalators (Ventolin®, Seretide ®, Duovent® ,etc.), auto injectors (FastJekt®, Epipen®, Glucagon®, etc.), ready-to-use syringes (Buccolam® , etc.) or rectioles (Diazepam Rectiole®, etc.) sums up the training unit. Aviation First Aid Basic Training

Description of the course Course title

• Aviation First Aid Basic Training Course objectives The Aviation First Aid Basic training course is designed to enable flight and cabin crew to carry out appropriate first aid in an emergency situation in flight. At the end of the course the candidate will be able to manage a casualty who is injured on an airplane, or suffers from a serious illness, while waiting to get access to qualified medical once the airplane has landed. Candidates will also have knowledge of the legal requirement concerning first aid and the “Good Samaritan Act”, be able to maintain simple records of treatment, and know the contents of first aid boxes and medical emergency equipment. The Aviation First Aid basic training course is specifically designed to the workplace of flight and cabin crews. Course program

• Barriers and Face Shields • Initial Assessment • Hypoxia • Choking • Head Injuries • Hygiene and food poisoning • Deep Vein Thrombosis • Hyperthermia and frost bite • Gastro-intestinal disturbance - food poisoning • Moving and positioning of people in care • The use of appropriate equipment including first-aid oxygen, first aid kits and emergency

medical kits and their contents • Practical cardio-pulmonary resuscitation training by each crew member using a

specifically designed dummy and taking account of the characteristics of an aircraft environment

• Travel health and hygiene including: hygiene on board, risk of contact with infectious diseases and means to reduce such risks, handling of clinical waste, handling of death on board, physiological effects of fatigue, sleepy physiology, circadian rhythm and time zone changes

• Contamination of the skin/eyes by aviation fuel or hydraulic or other fluids

Aviation First Aid Refresher Training

Description of the course Course title

• Aviation First Aid Refresher Training Course objectives The Aviation First Aid refresher training course is designed to enable flight and cabin crew to carry out appropriate first aid in an emergency situation in flight.
