MAS Project, MASSEY Train The Trainer Workshop

1. Objectives
Your requirement is for a facilitated workshop to provide participants with Train The Trainer [or ‘TTT’] skills to confidently and competently deliver MAS Training Modules.
The following conditions will also apply:
• Length of the workshop 4 hours: either 0830-1230 or 1300-1700.
• Any TTT exercises and examples used must be directly applicable to MAS Training on-job.
2. Demographics and Training Considerations
TBC - TTT workshops all to be delivered period of 14 and 15 April 2005.
1 Workshop in Albany Campus, Auckland.* 4 participants. [*Requires Travel, Transfers, and Accommodation.]
2 Workshops in Massey Campus, for Palmerston North and Wellington teams.* 21 participants in total.
[*Requires Travel and Accommodation.]
TBC - Exact workshop location.
3. Venue Requirements / Resources
Venue room used for TTT should be large enough for participants to move around, i.e. classroom rather than lab unless group size 5 people or less.
Require 1 PC with MAS training system connected to Datashow and screen.
4. Other TTT Design Considerations
Workshop length is half-day followed by own MAS practice and MAS content workshops.

Context Expertise: Adult Learners - Key principles of adult learning. - Adult learning styles questionnaire (VAK, mismatcher). - Implications for trainers and presenters.

Confidence Expertise: Knowing yourself when you train. - Discussion and activity around stage fright. - Recognising your signs and the physiology of nervousness. - Overcoming stage fright tips / techniques. - Perception as the reality of others and only you know the plan. - Personal strategies.

Delivery Considerations [During the Training] Stage Management: Making the most of where you are.
Effective use of space and environment. Seating considerations. Datashow and PC training considerations. What could go wrong? Critical versus non-critical ‘issues’. Contingency planning and preparation. Venue “Owner” management. Mitigating these risks.

Content (Plan) Management: Achieving the most you can with your plan.
Keeping your plan flexible and time management tips. Contingency planning and preparation. Acceptable and unacceptable shortcuts. (“Making the boat go faster.”)

Audience Management: Keeping people engaged and on track.
Using groundrules. Group dynamics. Using and responding to questions, including hostile questioners. Staying on track. Gaining and keeping the audience engaged / interested. Mitigating these risks.
Self-Management: Creating and maintaining the right perception.
First impressions: dress and professional image. Physical presence and control. Words, tone and body language. Chunking and directive language.

MAS Training Preparation / Planning Time Participants – either in pairs/teams or individually - have 20 minutes to plan consider and draft their MAS Training plan. They can also have a go at rehearsing delivery of parts of their session if they wish, using the training datashow if needed. Coaching available at same time from facilitator.
