Our first stop was Alsea Falls. A day use area for

picnics, rest stops and hiking in the mountain

    foothills.

OTC Members relax at Alsea Falls.

It was nice to get into the forest out of the sun for

a cool down next to the stream. We were able to

refill our water bottles with cool, fresh water fromthe faucet provided.

    Alsea Falls Parking

Alsea Falls recreation site is nestled along the

South Fork Alsea River and the South Fork AlseaRiver National Back Country Byway between the

small communities of Alsea and Alpine.

We stopped for gas in the sm

Pete Peterson, a longtime OTC member, arrivedahead of us to secure parking. We lined the streetout front while filling the banquet room inside. In

addition to securing our parking and eatingspaces, Pete picked up the entire tab. Thank youPete for the unexpected support.

Pete made certain everyone enjoyed their time in Florence.

After lunch, we followed a wandering track

through little used back roads to the River BendResort for dinner.

Norlene had prepared lasagna, several salads and

    a wonderful dessert for us.

Saturday, July 27th Marys Peak Loop

Saturdays ride took the group northwest toascend Marys Peak. On the way we covered

several miles of deserted back roads, road along

several small streams and trekked across little-used side roads. The route included dozens ofspectacular views.

The group stopped for a break in Alsea OR.

As you can see, the weather cooperated for us

that day resulting in spectacular views in every

direction. The photo below is looking east acrossthe Willamette Valley towards the CascadeMountains and Mt. Hood.

If you look closely you can see Mt. Hood in the distance.

After a short time enjoying the view, it was timeto start back. A long decent off the mountain

provided another opportunity to wear down theoutside edges of our tires.

Once back at the River Bend Resort, riders

prepared for the awards banquet. Saturdaysmenu was BBQ Brisket, Pulled Pork along with the

usual sides of beans, watermelon and salads.
