introductionWhat makes allure ULTRAso unique & revolutionary?allure ULTRA is the ultimate “do ityourself” flooring product. It’s just that easy to install.
No messy adhesives or glue is necessary.
Because of allure’s flexibility the plankscan be installed over uneven sub-floors orexisting floors such as natural wood, concrete, vinyl, linoleum, and evenceramic. Saving you time andmoney!
allure ULTRA looks and feels like wood, its WATERPROOF, so it can be installed inmoisture prone areas that traditionally havebeen “off limits” for traditional woodflooring and laminate products, likebasements and bathrooms. See subfloorpreparation section.
allure ULTRA has a CBT (Ceramic Bead Technology) coatingfor added wear and durability!
Each allure plank locks to another planknot glued to your sub-floor, using theinterlocking strip. It’s free floating. To cut a plank, simply score and snap.
allure is quiet and warm under foot.
Follow the instructions for installation in thenext section and you will be enjoying yourbeautiful new floor in just a few hours.

Shears for cutting around irregular shaped objects (pipes)
1/8” spacers
Planks needed to complete your projectMeasure the length & width of your room.If the room has alcoves or offsets, measurethese separately. This will give you thesquare footage of the room. Purchase aminimum of 10% extra to cover mistakes, trimming and for future needs and orreplacement. Most installations requireabout 10% overage. However this canvary depending upon the room size and layout.
allure ULTRA comes in 47.6” x 7.5”planks or 2.48 square feet per plank. 8 planks per case = 19.8 square feet per case.
So, if your room is 10’ x 10’ or 100sq.ft., we would recommend you purchase6 cases (120 sq.ft)

HELPFUL HINT #1: For best results it isimportant to purchase product (cases) fromthe same RUN # (dye lot). Different run #’scan have shade variations. Every case ofallure has the run # printed on the ends ofthe case. Run # example: 30.08.2009. If you do have more than one run # wehighly recommend you install planks from 4or 5 different cases from different run #’sat one time and randomly mix them into theinstallation as you go. This will insure amore natural looking floor.
CAUTION: Do not install allure overcarpet or any foam underlayment. Thisproduct is not suitable for any outside use,sunrooms/solariums, saunas, or rooms thathave the potential of flooding. We alsohighly recommend you do not install inrooms or homes that are not temperaturecontrolled. Exposure to long term directsunlight can cause damage to your floor.
Condition allure prior to installationYou MUST store allure horizontally in theroom of installation for 48 hours prior toinstallation. Be sure the room temperatureis between 65 & 85 F. Do not remove theplanks from the case during thisacclamation period! Maintain thistemperature during installation as well.

Subfloor preparation: The sub floor surface must be smooth, flat, dry, clean and solid. Carpet staplesor adhesive residue must be removed toinsure proper installation.
Subfloors should be flat within atolerance of 1/8” (3mm) over a span of4 feet. Any unevenness over 1/8”(3mm) must be sanded down or filledwith a floor leveler. Voids or humps inthe sub floor will prevent allure fromlocking properly.
Subfloors must be carefully checked formoisture problems. allure ULTRA iswaterproof. It is NOT a water-proofer.Any moisture problems need to beaddressed prior to installation. Newconcrete floors need to cure for aminimum of 60 days.

HELPFUL HINT #2: If laying allure overexisting ceramic tile, it will be necessary to skimcoat the grout lines with a floor leveler. If youinstall allure over an existing floor that has anembossing or grout line on it, you must skimcoat with a floor leveler if the embossing orgrout line is greater than 1/8”—(3 mm).
If you have old, ugly vinyl and don’t want topay for an expensive removal and remediatingjob. allure is the perfect answer. Any loose ordamaged tiles should be patched prior toinstalling allure over the old floor. Never sandold vinyl floors from any floor manufacturer, ifyou think the floor may be over 20 years old.
Installing allure: Anyone can do it!HELPFUL HINT #3: Before laying outthe floor, check the wall you are startingfrom and make sure it is square to theopposite wall. Simply measure the roomfrom opposite ends of the wall to the farwall. If the measurements are different youcan make adjustments on the first row ofallure by scribing the plank.
1. Lay a row of loose planks withoutsecuring them to each other first todetermine if you need to adjust thelength of the first plank to avoid a smallpiece of less than 12” on the oppositewall from where you started or measurethe length of the room and divide by48” (length of one plank). If theremainder is less than 12”, calculate ½of the remainder and trim this amount

off the first plank. The last plank shouldbe the same length as the first one. Tocut a plank, simply measure and markthe plank, then using a straight edgeand utility knife, simply score the plankand snap. It’s that easy!
2. Installation should start in a corner (lefthand) and proceed from the wall withthe tongue facing out away from thewall (Figure 1). Allow a minimum gap of1/8” (2-3mm) for subfloor movement orproduct expansion, which should becovered by molding.
3. When laying the first row in a straightline interlock the short ends by insertingthe tongue into the grooves at an angleof approx.15 to 20 degrees. Installeach sequential plank on the short end(7.5”) and be sure to line up evenly. This is very important for a goodinstallation.
4. Be sure to keep the seams tight. Youwill feel and hear the click whenlocking the planks together to create atight seam. There should be no gapvisible between planks.
installa
tion
8
If your seam appears not to be tight, you can immediately pull apart theplanks and reapply it. Slowly lift the topplank away from the bottom plank andsimply reapply them—repeating Step#3. Be careful not to pull the planksapart too fast or you could rip ordamage the Locking Strip.
5. When installing allure, it is stronglyrecommended to stagger the rows sothat the short edge (7.5”) seams are notin a straight uniform line. Werecommend the staggered randommethod 3’-2’-1’ (Figure 2). However youmay want to try other “patterns” ofplanks to suit your taste. allure can beinstalled with endless possibilities—youronly limitation is your own imagination!
6. Start the second row with the plank cutat about 2/3 length (32”). Measureand mark the plank, then using astraight edge and utility knife, score theplank and snap.
installa
tion
9
7. Interlock the plank tightly againstthe first row (long side) again at a15-20 degree angle. The nextplank, interlock the short side first, leaving it slightly away from thelong side and then slide into thelong side.
HELPFUL HINT #4: When cuttingallure for length, be sure to alwayscut the short side of the plank with thegroove edge. The remaining piececan then be used on the opposite sideof the room, at the end of that row(Figure 3) if layout permits.
8. Start the third row with the plankcut at 1/3 of a length (16”).Again the remaining piece can beused at the opposite end of therow, if the layout of the roompermits
▲
installa
tion
9. Continue this pattern for the remainderof the rows to be installed. Alwaysplace the cut end of the first plankagainst the wall (Figure 4).
10.Fitting around irregular objects, noproblem. Simply make a pattern out ofheavy paper to fit around pipes orirregular objects. Place the patternupon the plank and trace. Cut alongtrace lines using a utility knife or heavyduty scissors, and lay plank. Be sure toleave a minimum of 1/8” expansionspace around all fixed objects, floorvents and door frames.
11.The beauty of allure ULTRA is theease of installing the opposite way. Youcan install from both sides of the plank. This allows you to start in one room andcontinue through a doorway intoanother room with the same pattern andcontinue installing the floor forwards orbackwards.
10
HELPFUL HINT #5: Be sure to keepsome spare allure planks in case there is an unforeseen need for replacement. Ifyou need to replace a plank of allureULTRA, simply take a utility knife and cutthe bad plank out along the long side ofthe plank only and lift out of place. Thentake a spare plank and cut the tongue andgroove off of the long side of thereplacement plank only. Leave the tongueand groove on the short side of the plank. Then simply fit into place and lock the twoshort ends into place.

care &maintenanceCongratulations! You have just installedTrafficMaster allure ULTRA from TheHome Depot. Your new resilient floorwas produced under the highest qualitystandards and will provide you with alifetime of enjoyment. Although allure isone of the easiest floors to maintain, please follow the recommendations inthis guide to retain the fresh look andprotect the factory finish.
Preventive maintenance:1. Use NON-RUBBER protective mats In
front of any doors leading to theoutside. This helps get the sand andgrit from getting on to your floors.Gritty sand is the worst enemy of anyfloor covering.
2. Install proper floor protectors (feltpreferred) on all furniture legs usedon resilient flooring. Protectors willallow chairs to move easily over thefloor without scuffing or scratching.Clean protectors on a regular basisto remove any grit that may havebecome embedded on the bottom ofthe furniture leg. For any swiveledtype office chairs and other rollingfurniture, please install 2” wide non-staining flat casters. Do not userubber casters.

3. To keep your floor looking its best, dustmop or vacuum your floor at least twicea week. Do it more often on floors withheavy traffic. Do not use a householddust cleaner of any kind as this maycause the floor to become slick ordamage the finish. Simply sweep thefloor as often as needed.
4. Do not allow pets with unclipped nailsto damage your allure floor. It mayresult in severe scratching to thesurface. The same is true for any highheeled shoes that do not have propertips on the heels.
5. Avoid exposure to direct sunlight forprolonged periods of time. During peaksunlight hours, use drapes or blinds tominimize the direct sunlight on theallure floor. Most types of flooring will be affected by continuous strongsunlight. To avoid an unevenappearance, please considerrelocations of any area rugs from timeto time. In addition, excessivetemperatures are not good for resilientfloors. Some natural ventilation orintermittent air conditioning in vacanthomes should be considered. Long termcontinuous inside temperatures over 95º F degrees combined with strongdirect sunlight will damage your allurefloor and cause the installation to fail.
HELPFUL HINT #6: To avoid yellowingfrom asphalt driveways or parking lots, always use doormats at entranceways.
It’s a good idea to use a hard surface floorattachment when vacuuming your allurefloor.

Regular maintenance:1. Food spills should be cleaned up as
rapidly as possible with a qualityliquid vinyl cleaner. Make sure thecleaner you choose is an all-purposeliquid cleaner that is NON-ABRASIVE. We do not recommendpowdered cleaners, oil soaps, dishwashing detergents, or otherdusting products. Try to use a non-rinsing, biodegradable cleaner thatleaves no residue or haze andrequires no rinsing after application.
2. If allure Single Step is not readilyavailable, then you may obtain itdirectly from Halstead. Seeinstructions on how to purchase thiscleaner, and other helpful productsfrom Halstead on page 20.
3. Shoe marks and scuffs can be easilyremoved using a spot application ofyour allure Single Step and a greenScotch Brite pad.
4. Regular household dirt can becleaned with your allure SingleStep applied as indicated on theproducts label. Some hand wipingmay be required to remove toughspots and spills. Always sweep orvacuum your allure floor beforecleaning so that all loose dirt andparticles are removed. For bestresults do not use combinationcleaner/finish products.
5. Do NOT WAX YOUR allure FLOOR!The surface of your TrafficMaster floor isvery dense and non-porous; this preventswax from penetrating and thus will buildup a bed for yellowing and dirtcollection. The same non-porous featurealso provides all the protection againstwear and staining that you will need.Use only allure Single Step for heavywear when you have experienced someloss of the original appearance over time.Your TrafficMaster allure floor has beendesigned to be very easy to maintain, butyou may prefer to add an occasionalcoat of the allure Single Step to renewand protect your floor. If you cannotlocate the allure Single Step, thenplease ask your Home Depotrepresentative for an equivalent low-glossproduct. Additionally, the allure SingleStep is available directly from Halstead.See page 20 on how to order.
6. If your floor has been exposed toexcessive amounts of water due toflooding, don’t panic, allure ULTRAis waterproof! Simply remove the wateras quickly as possible with a Wet-Vacor other device and ventilate the room.A dehumidifier should be promptlyturned on in the room to reduce themoisture levels back to normal. Do notdry the room below the normal moisturelevel that existed previously.
