Traditional FR Products today use

halogenated (bromine/chlorine) based

polymers and FR fillers (i.e. Antimony, ATH,

etc.)

However, TOXICITY and SMOKE are of a

concern when using traditional fire

retardants.

New standards are emerging: One example

is the railway industry.

Market requirements:

Conventional Polyester Systems don’t meet the strict Standards

required for compliance in Railway, Aviation, Marine &

Construction applications (smoke, toxicity).

Regulations are changing, the Railway is one example of

standardising across Europe. This brings new standards, new

challenges and tighter controls of all Raw materials used in Fire

Resistant products.

Because of these changes, CCP Composites saw an

opportunity to develop a Fire Resistant system that meets these

changes.

CCP Solutions: Why an intumescent system?

Intumescent materials work by forming a char layer at the

interface of the fire source and the composite laminate, which

cuts off the oxygen from the organic fuel source.

The intumescent solution brings many advantages: first of all,

there is no halogen, lowering the toxicity and the opacity of the

fumes.

Environmental performance is improved by three major factors:

The Total Ecosolutions product uses raw materials that are less toxic.

When exposed to fire, the Total Ecosolutions product does not emit

halogen.

Because the Total Ecosolutions product has a lower density than the

reference product, the train is lighter and, as a result, uses less energy

and emits less carbon.
