American Sailing Association Courses More Experience.
Basic Keelboat 3 Days of Instruction $845
ASA 101 certification All-Ladies Class Available
BKB is taught on 22 to 25 foot boats with outboard engines. You will learn the basics of sailing, safe-ty, terminology, basic rules of the road, docking and more. Typically three 8 hour days of class with almost all of your time on the water. This course will prepare you for day sailing in light to moderate conditions on a small keel boat.
Basic Coastal Cruising 3 Days of Instruction $945 ASA 103 certification
BCC is taught on 27 to 34 foot boats, with inboard diesel engines. You will learn more advanced sail-ing, docking, anchoring, rules of the road, navigation, weather and mooring. This course will prepare you to sail larger boats in more challenging conditions.
Bareboat Charter 3 Days of Instruction $1,045 ASA 104 certification
BBC is taught on 34 to 36 foot boats and includes an overnight at anchor somewhere on the Bay. You will learn advanced sailing techniques, high wind sailing, dual anchoring, navigation, boat systems and staying aboard. This course is a major step in preparing you to charter sailboats in more challenging conditions and for vacations around the world!

3 Class Special ASA 101, 103, 104 for $2,295
Coastal Navigation Home Study $295 Instructed $395 ASA 105 certification
This course covers charts and navigation and includes an ASA certified test administered in our office. Coastal Navigation is a requirement for taking Advanced Coastal Cruising class. Choose to take it as a home-study or instructed in the classroom. In this 3 day class you will learn charts, plotting, set & drift, and more. Advanced Coastal Cruising 3 Days of Instruction $1,695 ASA 106 certification
ACC is taught on a large ocean yacht. This class covers advanced ocean sailing including navigation, standing watch, night-time MOB and much more. 3 1/2 days and 3 nights, you’ll typically go out the Golden Gate and spend a night in Half Moon Bay, sail around the Farallone Islands and anchor the second night in Drakes Bay.
Celestial Navigation 6 Days of Instruction $495 ASA 107 certification
You will learn Celestial Navigation theory and practice required to safely navigate a sailboat on an offshore passage. The practical application is conducted in our Offshore Passagemaking course. Our course is presented in a multimedia format using PowerPoint slides, movies, worksheets, software programs, the Artificial Horizon and plenty of hands-on experience.
Offshore Passage-making 4 Days of Instruction $2,595 ASA 108 certification
Learn passage planning, voyage preparation, basic sail, vessel, and rigging repair, offshore meal plan-ning and safety, suitable clothing, basic treatment of medical problems, shipboard routines, emergency procedures, and rules of the road during a course of no less than 72 hours and 100 NM without touch-ing land.

Catamaran Cruising 1 Day of Instruction $795 ASA 114 certification
During this 1 day, four-student course, you will learn to maneuver a large cruising catamaran under both sail and power. Docking, anchoring, man over-board, systems, everything you need to know to charter a cruising catamaran on your next vacation. ASA - 104 - Bareboat Chartering is a pre-requisite for this course. Advanced Docking & Motoring 1 Day of Instruction $325 ASA 118 certification
You will become comfortable with close quarters boat handling, spring lines, fairway rotation skills, back and fill skills, backing in a straight line in adverse conditions and backing into slips. Marine Weather 3 Days of Instruction $395 ASA 119 certification
We blend self-study, lecture, and hands-on weather charting. This class ensures plenty of time for questions and individual feedback. During the span of this class, you will evaluate real-time weather data and prepare routing directions for the delivery of a sailing vessel. This Maritime Weather course is meant to provide you with the knowledge to determine safe departure windows, optimize your rout-ing underway, and minimize your weather risk at sea.

Radar for Mariners 2 Days of Instruction $395 ASA 120 certification
Classroom setting, for sailors and power boaters. Use radar for navigation and collision avoidance. Learn how to interpret the display. Unlock the full power of your radar’s traditional tools and the latest features.
Advanced Anchoring 1 Day of Instruction $325
Learn the trick of single and double bow anchoring. Mediterranean mooring, Bahamian anchoring, bow and stern anchoring, and the uses and purposes of different anchor types.
Challenge-In Course 1 Day of Instruction $1,000
We will spend the time teaching you how Tradewinds members check boats in and out, covering some Tradewinds-specific procedures and policies, and verifying your skills at the level you'd like to join. If you do not already have certifications, you will also have to take the written tests from ASA. We re-duce the cost of the course by $250 if you are joining the club and by an additional $150 if you already have ASA certifications.

Tradewinds hosts a variety of seminars throughout the year, including: Sail Trim, Knots & Line Han-dling, Splicing, Sail Repair, Diesel Maintenance, Boat Yard Maintenance, Surveys, Heavy Weather, GPS, Marine Communication, and more.
