The forum will be split into two sessions. The morning session will primarily cover Market Trends and topics of concerns for the local trade and the afternoon session will concentrate on Gafta, its services and the benefits of joining the association. The law firm Reed Smith will also host a session on hot legal topics in shipping and commodities arbitration. An evening reception will be held the night before on the evening of the 16th (tickets are available separately for this event). Jaine Chisholm Caunt was appointed Gafta’s DirectorGeneral in 2014. Jaine comes from the TobaccoManufacturers’ Association, where she was Secretary Generalfrom 2011 to 2014. She was previously the Director ofStakeholder Relations & Policy for Cogent, the skills body forthe UK’s science-based and process manufacturing industriesfrom 2006 to 2011. Jaine has been a member of a number ofgovernment working groups, including advising the UKgovernment on workplace teacher training standards from2001 to 2003, sitting as a member of an advisory group onUniversity funding, and acting as a member of the BIS“Gateways to the Professions” forum in 2010. She has alsoadvised policy makers on the links between developingprofessional skills standards and reducing business regulationand bureaucracy. She co-wrote Breaking Down Barriers(NIACE 2001), the first textbook for tutors about workplacebasic skills training, and has written and presented for a widevariety of audiences.

Bevan Davies, SVP Asia Pacific, essDOCS. Bevan began hiscareer with essDOCS in 2008 in the Project Delivery Team.He was responsible for delivering critical company projects,including the first operational use of electronic Bills of Ladingin the wet and dry bulk markets in Europe and the Americas.In June 2012, he was tasked with opening the essDOCSNorth American office, where his responsibilities includedexpanding the business in the Americas and managingregional essDOCS operations. In February 2014, Bevan tookon the role of VP Asia Pacific, heading Operational / BusinessDevelopment in the APAC region. The following year, hebecame essDOCS’ first Head of Metals and in March 2016,was appointed SVP Asia Pacific.

Amreeta Eng, was appointed Group Director of the TradePromotion Group in 2014. Amreeta leads the growth of avibrant commodities trading hub in Singapore, by attractingkey players from the Energy & Chemicals, Metals & Mineralsand Agri-commodities clusters to base their internationaltrading operations in Singapore, as they seek to find marketopportunities in Asia. She works to chart key growthstrategies for the sector, and to ensure Singapore remains aconducive environment for commodities traders to operatein. She started her career in IE as a Senior Trade Officer inthe South East Asia Group. She has held positions inStrategic Planning, CrimsonLogic Philippines (secondment)and Trade Group before she was posted to IE’s New YorkOverseas Centre as the Centre Director from 2009 to 2012.She assumed the appointment of Divisional Director, Energy& Chemicals in the Trade Promotion Group upon her returnfrom her posting in 2012.

Julien Hall, Senior Managing Editor, Agriculture Asia, Platts -leads the Asian Agriculture team for Platts, which includesoversight of biofuels and grains. He has spent almost eightyears in Platts covering a variety of opaque or complexmarkets including steel, iron ore and metallurgical coal.Before working for Platts, he produced a specializednewsletter focusing on the French private equity industry.

Simon Jones, is a specialist commodities trading lawyerwhose practice involves both handling disputes andtransactional and advisory work in relation to the trading,transporting and financing of a wide range of both hard andsoft commodities. Simon often deals with "firefighting" ofurgent, live issues and also has considerable experience oflitigation and arbitration and has conducted arbitrations inthe SIAC, GAFTA, FOSFA LCIA, LMAA, ICC, RSA, SAL and adhoc. Simon's transactional and advisory work includesadvising on, transactions relating to the storage, processing,distribution and marketing of commodities and draftingcommodities trading contracts, standard terms andconditions, term offtake and supply contracts andcommodities storage agreements.

Dan Perera, is Of Counsel based in Norton Rose Fulbright’sSingapore office, focussing on disputes and contractnegotiation within the commodities, mining and internationaltrade sector. Dan regularly advises clients in respect of allaspects pertaining to the marketing, sale and supply chain ofcommodities, including contract drafting and negotiation;force majeure and other supply chain disruption; carriage ofgoods by sea; regulatory compliance; and generalcommodity sale and purchase disputes, at arbitration andotherwise. He has advised clients in respect of arbitrationsunder SIAC, ICC, LCIA, LMAA, UNCITRAL, GAFTA andvarious other institutional rules, and has extensive experienceof expert determination and mediation procedures. Dan isadmitted to practise law in England and Wales as a Solicitor-Advocate; in New York as an Attorney-At-Law; and inWestern Australia.

Rolf Peters, President of Gafta, is the co-founder and CEO ofUS Commodities LLC, the physical commodity trading unit ofAgMotion Inc. He began his career at The Pillsbury Companyas a commodity trader after graduating with a BA fromCarleton College in 1986. He left Pillsbury in 1988 to foundR. S. Peters, Inc., a trading firm whose operations becameViking Ag Commodities, Inc. and are housed today withinAgMotion. Rolf is also a member of the International Tradeand Ag Policy committee of the National Grain and FeedAssociation, Washington, DC.

Simon Tay is Chairman of the Singapore Institute ofInternational Affairs (SIIA), rated in 2015 as the best in Asiaand the Pacific. He is concurrently Associate Professor,teaching international law at the National University ofSingapore, and author of the well-received book on Asianregionalism and the role of America, Asia Alone (2010, Wiley).

Professor Paul Teng is Adjunct Senior Fellow in Food Securityat the Centre for Non-Traditional Security (NTS) Studies, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, and PrincipalOfficer at the National Institute of Education (NIE) – both ofNanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore. AFellow of the American Phytopathological Society (APS) andThe World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). He currently servesas Chairman, International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) and Non-Executive Chairmanof Asia Biobusiness Pte Ltd. He is a past winner of theEriksson Prize in Plant Pathology.

Vishal Vijay is the head of business development at AgrocorpInternational, an agri commodity trading house anddistribution firm established in Singapore in 1990. Vishalmanages new market entries as well as investments intoAgrocorp’s processing business which at present holds fourpulses and wheat processing facilities in Canada. RecentlyAgrocorp has entered into a joint venture in Myanmar tobuild, own and operate a parboiled rice mill. Vishal holds anengineering degree from Cornell University and was workingin the clean energy space in United States and Singaporebefore joining the business.

Jody Wood, is a specialist shipping and trade disputeslawyer in Reed Smith's Shipping Group, acting for global andregional clients in the shipping, trade and insurance sectors.Jody acts for shipowners, charterers, ship managers, tradersand insurers / P&I Clubs on a broad range of contentious andoften complex maritime transportation matters. Jody acts fortraders in disputes under international sale contracts andletters of credit. Jody also has considerable experience ofinternational commercial arbitrations seated in Singapore,London and Hong Kong.
