    MACRO ECONOMIC REVIEW

    GDP growth:On real economy, GDP growth for 2013-14 is pegged at 4.9 per centwhich is line with other institutional estimates. Mean GDP growth for 2014-15 hasbeen projected to be 5.6 or 5.7 per cent by various agencies including IMF andWorld Bank.

    Inflation:The headline WPI inflation for April 2014 declined to 5.20 per cent from5.70 per cent last month partly on account of base effect and decline in inflation invegetables and fuel. The WPI food inflation declined to 6.34 per cent in April 2014from 7.09 per cent in March 2014 mainly on account of vegetables.

    External Sector and Trade:External trade statistics continued to show improvement in April 2014. Tradedeficit for April, 2014 was estimated at USD 10.09 billion which was lower thanthe deficit of USD 17.67 billion during April, 2013.

    India's Tea Output Rises 8% in 2013-14, IST

    India's tea production in 2013-14 increased by about 8 per cent to 1,224.48million kg on account of higher output in Assam and West Bengal. Tea productionin 2012-13 was 1,135.07 million kg, according to Tea Board of India data. Thecombined output of Assam and West Bengal rose 6.52 per cent to 980.01 millionkg in the previous financial year from 920.01 million kg a year earlier. Assam andWest Bengal are the major tea-producing states, accounting for 80 per cent ofIndia's total output. Tea production in the southern states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala

    Coffee Exports Up 9.32% in January-May, IST

    Coffee exports increased by 9.32 per cent in value terms at Rs 2,567 crore duringthe January-May period this year on better realisation in view of firm global prices.Coffee shipments from India, the world's fifth biggest exporter, stood at Rs2,347.92 crore in the corresponding period last year.     Marine Products Exports Up 42% to USD 5 Billion in 2013-14, IST

    Marine products exports grew by 42 per cent year-on-year to USD 5 billion in2013-14. In volume terms, the exports were 9.83 lakh tonne. Among marineproducts, frozen shrimp continued to be the major export value item accountingfor 64.12 per cent of the total exports earnings. The country's exports stood atUSD 300.4 billion in 2012-13 and USD 307 billion in 2011-12.

    Duty Free Tariff Preference Scheme (DFTP) of Government of India

    India announced the DFTP Scheme for Least Developed Countries (LDCs) inthe year 2008. The Scheme grants duty free access on about 85% of Indias totaltariff lines and preferential access (Positive List) on about 9% of tariff lines. Only6% tariff lines are under the exclusion list. Duty Free and Positive Lists coverabout 92.5% of global exports of LDCs.

    Tanzania was the first LDC in Africa to convey its intention to join DFTP inJune 2008. All formalities for the Scheme were completed and notified in 2009.Details of the DFTP Scheme are available on the following links:
