1965   Govt. of India's research institute(CMERI) at Durgapur initiates design and development of SWARAJ tractor based on indigenous know-how.  

1970   Punjab Govt. through PSIDC acquires SWARAJ tractor's design from CMERI and establishes Punjab Tractors Ltd. (PTL) for its commercialization.

1971-73   PTL sets up SWARAJ Project for 5,000 tractors per annum at a capital outlay of Rs. 37.0 million with an equity base of Rs 11.0 million.

After these zones tractor is thoroughly washed with water and detergent by pressure jet guns.

Machined gear box housing is thoroughly cleaned by dipping in kerosene tank this is done to remove chips,grease and foreign deposits particals.

Compressed air is jet is used to remove left over chips and also kerosene from various cavities and tapped holes in gear box housing.

Studs are fitted in the steering column ,gear box in section cover area left floor bracket etc. also bush is fitted.

Gasket cement is applied where bottom plates are to be fitted and furture gaskets are placed. Then bolts are tightened to fit bottom plates.

Now gear box housing is placed on the bridge and following steps are taken in assembly procedure.

Gear box inspection cover is fitted with bolts. And rubber packing is placed amidst.

Bearing are fitted in respective holes. Pre assembled lay shaft with shim

adjustment,pre assembled hollow clutch shaft and splined shaft. P.T.O shaft shaft are fitted in gear box housing.

Gear shifting rods with gear shifting forks being clamped on various sliding gears are placed in appropriate slots.

Top cover with various levers and hand brakes levers is fastened.
