The forties are a critical point in life. Muscle loss and a decrease in cardiovascular performance are part of aging. But as a fitness expert, I know people can be fit and healthy regardless of the number of birthdays they’ve celebrated.

Older people respond very favorably to strength training and aerobic exercise. This, in conjunction with good nutrition, can make a huge difference between our chronological age (how old we are) and our biological age (how old we feel). So stop putting limits on yourself because you’re over 40. Instead try these 5 tips, along with some of our products:

1. BELIEVE IN YOURSELF AND GET STARTED

To regain your vitality it’s imperative to have an optimistic mindset. You need to believe that you can make the necessary changes to get fitter as you age. Set a plan in motion, which includes weight training and cardio, and start slow.

2. BE CONSISTENT Getting fit won’t happen overnight.

So once you start a program make it part of your lifestyle. Ideally, train 4 days a week for 45 to 60 minutes. Don’t forget to warm up before exercising and get a good stretch after. And give yourself enough time to recover.

3. FIND EXERCISES THAT ARE RIGHT FOR YOU

When you find something you like, you will be more prone to do it. For instance, I have some 40-year-old (and over) friends who find walking boring, so recommending golf for them would be like setting them up for failure. Instead, they joined a dance class.

4. DON’T MAKE EXCUSES In order to get progress, you need to

get serious. Increasing your fitness level will benefit YOU. You will have more muscle to support your joints. You’ll be in a better mood. You’ll have more energy. In other words, you’ll feel rejuvenated. So treat exercise the way you treat other essential activities in life. Remember that excuses don’t get results.

5. EAT RIGHT Cardio and weights won’t pay off

unless your diet is in order. Ingest more lean protein, drink at least 8 glasses of water (or Fortune Delight®) per day, keep fats to a minimum, and lessen the amount of white flour and sugar you consume daily.
