BENEFITS (Outcomes)• Skills to apply a comparative-advantage analytical method to

determine market-driven priorities for export promotion for any given

country, by applying this model for Canada.

• Enhanced ability to model Indonesia’s trade under different economic

scenarios

• Skills to analyse Non-Tariff Measures and identify opportunities to

improve Indonesia’s competitiveness by reducing NTMs

• Increased understanding of the importance of Services trade in the

Indonesian Economy.

• Increased knowledge on how to defend against unfair trade practices

gained to improve policy and consumer

protection in Indonesia, especially in Metrology.

▪ DG CPTC obtained important inputs for

establishing Indonesia National Quality

Assurance (NQA) in Indonesia

to conduct test on footwear and apparel

products according to Canadian standards,

improved their ability to support the numerous

trade agreement negotiations taking place

• Existing and senior staff gained new insights to

apply into important emerging areas such as trade

in services, the Trade Facilitation Agreement, and

Investment Facilitation Agreements as well as

Ministerial Conference topics.

• Public and Private Stakeholders are working more

closely together and have improved the

implementation of public-private consultation

• Representatives of KADIN, APINDO, APRISINDO and API have gained a deeper and broader knowledge and skills of all aspects of international trade negotiation and implementation.

• This increased knowledge and skills have enhanced the ability of the private sector to be an active effective stakeholder supporting Indonesia’s expansive trade agreement agenda.

• Government and private sector stakeholders are working together and are implementing improved public-private consultation mechanisms to support real-world trade negotiations, thereby strengthening Indonesia’s negotiation position

BENEFITS (Outcomes)• Knowledge gained is now being actively applied to real-world trade disputes

• This has improved quality and decreased time and costs of cases

• Ministry of Trade staff and staff of other technical ministries are now applying their new

knowledge and skills to better manage, prevent and resolve situations involving dumping,

import surges and handling disputes via an improved understanding of the WTO framework

• Participation by other technical ministries has reduced the potential for them to inadvertently

trigger future disputes against Indonesia.

• Reduced risk of disputes triggered by other technical ministries is expected to reduce the

future costs and workload of the Ministry of Trade and the Government of Indonesia.

BENEFITS (Outcomes)• Positive impact on the performance of the Directorate of Trade Defense (DPP) and other

related trade remedies units as a result of new knowledge and skills in handling trade

remedy cases.

• Better understanding by MoT and other Ministries on WTO legal regulations and

frameworks, resulting in increased awareness on how to formulate regulations that

would not trigger subsidies allegations or disputs.

• Increase in DPP’s ability to analyze and make submissions at each stage of the trade

remedies investigations. Indonesia was able to successfully terminate 17 cases in 2017

and 2018, compared to 6 cases in 2016.

• Gained an understanding of current Canadian investor

priorities and engagement methods

• Gained additional knowledge and practical experience

on effective tools and methods for promoting and

facilitating investment

• BKPM has shared this knowledge with operational staff,

and with regional and provincial agencies responsible

for this function.

Progress is being made towards implementing these tools

and strategies, and the knowledge shared has already been

incorporated in BKPM’s training curriculum.

• New product designs that match North American tastes and measurement standards

• More effective marketing materials (websites, business cards, price lists, brochures, catalogs, communications templates)

• Improved communications and response times with prospective buyers

• Increased confidence and ability to participate in international trade shows and secure new buyers

• Increased exports by participating SMEs (CDN$ 6.4 million to date)• TPSA gained an understanding of knowledge gaps facing Indonesian

SMEs, enabling the project to develop knowledge resources on how to export, and how to participate in and benefit from international trade shows

• These knowledge resources are being sustainably used by Ministry of Trade, Industry Associations and SMEs to demystify the process and benefits of exporting for SMEs

BENEFITS (Outcomes)• TA on Access to Capital facilitated linkages between women-

led SMEs and Financial Service Providers• Training on Digital Marketing increased knowledge and skills

of women-led SMEs in how to improve Access to Markets via digital channels. This training material has now been added to the Indonesian Export Training Center online business course .

• Development of an Improved IWAPI website and membership platform to increase access to market information and buyers for their 30,000 members across Indonesia.

• Leadership training for women coffee farmers has given them the confidence to become leaders of their cooperatives, and training materials have been developed to enable such training to continue in the future.

• Increased knowledge of key stakeholders on gender & trade issues.

• Worked with target SMEs in the apparel and footwear industries to implement and benefit from cleaner production methods

• Awareness-raising for government and non-governmental stakeholders on the interdependency between trade and environmental/natural resource sustainability

• Worked with lead coffee farmers and agricultural extension officers to implement environmentally friendly techniques and practices improve their environmental sustainability

BENEFITS (Outcomes)• SMEs participating in environmental performance improvement activities

have reduced wasted employee time and efforts, excess inventory, and rejected products. Other resource-efficiency measures have helped to reduce production waste, pollution and energy consumption, which in turn improve the competitiveness of their products and their potential to be exported.

• These manufacturing SMEs provide role-models for other SMEs to replicate and have raised awareness of the benefits of cleaner production.

• Coffee farmers have gained practical environmentally friendly farming skills to improve composting, pruning, cutting, grafting, as well as pest and disease control. These have allowed them to increase production without expanding coffee growing areas, which could otherwise contribute to deforestation.

• Exporters are more aware of Canada’s environment-related regulations, and the market trends for sustainable products, and the role of voluntary sustainability standards (ecolabels) in the Canadian market via the project’s market research reports, INATRIMS content, and other publications.
