Applicability All applicable model-year vehicles. California-certified vehicles registered and normally operated in the state of California or any other state1 (excluding Prius [beginning with 2004MY], Prius PHV and Camry Hybrid vehicles) that adopt California emission warranty provisions.

California Emission Defect Warranty Toyota warrants that for a period of 3 years or 50,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first, Toyota will diagnose, repair, replace, or adjust any emission-related components that are defective in materials or workmanship, or that do not function as designed if the failure of that part could affect federal test procedure emissions. Additionally, Toyota will repair, replace, or adjust specific emissions components that are found to be defective for 7 years or 70,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first. Refer to the model-year specific list of emission parts covered by this warranty. Furthermore, specific major emission control components are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first, under the terms of the Federal Emission Warranty (see Policy 4.6).

California Emission Performance Warranty If a California-certified Toyota vehicle fails to pass the California Inspection/ Maintenance (I/M) “smog” test, Toyota will perform diagnosis, repair, replacement or adjustment of all parts necessary to pass the test at no charge to the vehicle owner for three (3) years or 50,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first. The terms of this warranty require the vehicle owner to provide Toyota with proof of failure of a California Inspection/Maintenance test. Components covered under this emission warranty are model-specific and change from year to year based on repair cost. For a list of parts covered under the emission defect and performance warranties, refer to the applicable Warranty and Maintenance Guide. 1 Currently Arizona (starting with 12MY), Connecticut (starting with 08MY), Maine (starting with 04MY), Maryland (starting with 11MY), Massachusetts, New Jersey (starting with 09MY), Oregon (starting with 09MY), Pennsylvania (starting with 08MY), Rhode Island (starting with 08MY), Vermont and Washington (starting with 09MY). California-specification vehicles shipped to other states’ dealers do not assume coverage under the California Emission Warranty.



2001-2003 MY Prius Short-Term Defect Warranty is 3 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and Long-Term Defect Warranty is 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Other states that adopted California Emission Coverage are Massachusetts and Vermont.

Prius (beginning with 2004 MY), Prius PHV and Camry Hybrid Defect and Performance warranty coverage for all emissions components is 15 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service, date, whichever occurs first. The Hybrid Vehicle Battery is warranted for 10 years or 150,000 miles from the vehicle’s in-service date, whichever occurs first. (Note: The Hybrid Vehicle Battery is also part of the Hybrid Vehicle System). Other states that have adopted California Emission Coverage are Arizona (starting with 12MY), Connecticut (starting with 05 MY), Maine, Maryland (starting with 11MY), Massachusetts, New Hampshire (05MY – 09MY), New Jersey (starting with 05MY), New Mexico (10MY – 11MY), New York, Oregon (starting with 08MY), Pennsylvania† (starting with 08MY), Rhode Island (starting with 05MY), Vermont and Washington† (starting with 09MY).

Camry PZEV For 4-cylinder Camry models certified as PZEV’s (Partial Zero Emission Vehicles), applicable coverage for all emissions components is 15 years or 150,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Other states that have adopted California Emission Coverage are Arizona (starting with 12MY), Connecticut (starting with 05MY), Maine (starting with 04MY), Maryland (starting with 11MY), Massachusetts, New Hampshire (05MY – 09MY), New Jersey (starting with 05MY), New Mexico (10MY-11MY), New York (starting with 05MY), Oregon (starting with 09MY), Rhode Island (starting with 05MY) and Vermont.

Highlander Hybrid, Prius C and Prius v Short-Term Defect Warranty is 3 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and Long-Term Defect Warranty is 7 years or 70,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Helpful Tips

Components covered under this emission warranty are model-specific and change from year to year based on repair cost. For a list of specific components, refer to the applicable Warranty and Maintenance Guide.

All claims submitted to meet California emissions requirements must include the words “CA Warranty” in the C/C/R text.

To meet performance warranty claim submission requirements: T1 Code “1A” (Failed Emission Test) must be applied to claims for repairs performed as result of a vehicle’s failure to pass a state-approved “smog check.” The claim would be used to fulfill the emissions performance or defect warranty. The C/C/R portion of the claim must state that the vehicle has failed a smog check.

Policy 4.7 California Emission Warranty 12/11 Page 22 of 22 Helpful Tips: Determining Emissions Applicability To determine emissions coverage applicability for a necessary repair, this procedure should be followed: 1. Verify the defect, as reported by the customer. 2. Determine the cause of the defect, as well as the original failed part

responsible for the defect. 3. Verify the correct failed part number, this may require consulting the parts

microfiche. 4. Determine the operation code appropriate to the necessary repair. 5. If the vehicle is beyond 3 year/36,000 mile comprehensive warranty

coverage, consult the most current Emissions Parts List to determine if extended coverage applies. A. If emissions coverage applies, based on the steps taken above, submit the

claim to TMS Warranty. B. If it is determined that emissions coverage does not apply, the repair is

not warrantable.
