Game-Winning DriveThe Tigers offense moved the ball when it needed to as they went on a nine-play, 80-yard drive in the game’s final minutes to defeat Stony Brook. The drive featured six running plays and three passing plays. Frazier was 3-for-3 for 30 yards, while Darius Victor rushed four times for 31 yards. Victor capped the drive with a six-yard TD run.

Defensive TouchdownThe Tigers defense scored for the first time since 2013 when Donnell Lewis scooped up a fumble and went 65 yards for the touchdown against Stony Brook. The last time the defense scored was against Richmond in

2013, when Telvion Clark returned a fumble and Christian Carpenter an interception for a score.

Defensive Youth MovementA youth movement was the name of the game against Stony Brook as Towson started three true freshman and one redshirt freshman. All four were making their first career starts. Diondre Wallace and Chris Tedder started at inside linebackers, while Lyrics Klugh started at corner and Monty Fenner at safety.

Klugh Sets Kickoff Return Yards RecordFreshman Lyrics Klugh had a big day in the return game as he set a school record with 211 kickoff return yards. He had big returns of 65 and 77 yards in the second half. He broke the old record of 182 yards set by Julian Blair against Bucknell in 1990. The 211 yards are the second most by a player in the FCS this season.

Frazier Tosses 3 TDsSenior quarterback Connor Frazier threw a career-high three touchdown passes against James Madison. Frazier’s previous career high was two, set twice during the 2014 season. On the season, Frazier has thrown seven touchdown passes and six interceptions. Two of his interceptions have come hail mary’s at the end of the half or game.

Simms Returns as Top TacklerSophomore James Simms made an immediate impact his freshman season as he recorded a team-best 99 tackles. With a year of experience, along with another full year in the weight room, Simms looks for another strong season from his linebacker spot.

Speed in the SecondaryThe Tigers will not have the luxury of All-American Tye Smith on the outside, but they will make up for that with one of the fastest units they have put on the field in recent years. That unit will be tested early against the spread attack of East Carolina.

Victor Named to STATS Watch ListRunning back Darius Victor was one of 22 players named to the STATS Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Watch List, formerly the Walter Payton Award.

General NotesThe 6 KingsInstead of naming captains, Towson has named six kings. These players were honored for the way they conduct themselves on and off the field. Each king has several sentinels under them. The six kings are Bryton Barr, Jon Desir, Connor Frazier, Eric Handy, Emmanuel Holder and Darius Victor.

Victor and Desir Earn Preseason HonorsSenior defensive tackle Jon Desir and junior running back Darius Victor were selected to the Preseason All-CAA team.

Terrance West made the Cleveland Browns 53-man roster, but was traded to the Tennessee Titans. Jermon Bushrod is in his second season with the Chicago Bears, while Ryan Delaire was recently picked up by the Carolina Panthers. Former safety Jordan Dangerfield is on the Pittsburgh Steelers practice squads.

Over the last four years, Rob Ambrose has led Towson football to 33 wins, a pair of CAA championships and two NCAA FCS playoff appearances. Heading into his seventh season at the helm of the Tiger football program in 2015, Ambrose has his sights set on a return to the NCAA FCS National Championship game. Coming off an NCAA FCS Championship game appearance the year before, the Tigers battled a plethora of injuries during the 2014 season. However, for the second straight year, a Tiger was selected in the NFL Draft. Just one year after running back Terrance West was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the third round, cornerback Tye Smith went in the fifth round of the 2015 NFL Draft to the Seattle Seahawks. You don’t have to look very far back to find Ambrose’s impact in the wins and losses column. In 2013, he guided the Tigers to a magical season as Towson reached the NCAA FCS championship game by beating No. 9 Fordham, No. 2 Eastern Illinois and No. 3 Eastern Washington in consecutive weeks. Towson finished the campaign with a 13-3 record; the 13 wins were a school record. Ranked second in the final NCAA FCS polls, Towson won the Lambert/Meadowlands Award as the top FCS team in the East. The Tigers were also honored as the ECAC FCS Team of the Year. During the 2012 season, Ambrose led the Tigers to a 7-4 record against an extremely difficult schedule. The Tigers lost to a pair of nationally-ranked FBS programs in Kent State and LSU. But, Towson finished the season with a 6-2 CAA record as the Tigers shared the league title. In 2011, just his third season as the Tigers’ head coach, Ambrose guided Towson to one of the most dramatic turnarounds in college football history. Only one season removed from a 1-10 record, the 2011 team became the “Turnaround Tigers” by going 9-3. Their 7.5-game improvement was the most dramatic improvement in NCAA Division I history. Towson posted a 9-2 regular season record, beat six nationally-ranked teams and won the CAA championship outright with a 7-1 record in 2011. The Tigers also made their first appearance in the NCAA FCS playoffs, becoming the first program to earn playoff

berths at the Division III, Division II and FCS (I-AA) levels. Once the season ended, Ambrose was honored as the 2011 CAA Coach of the Year, the AFCA District Coach of the Year and was a finalist for the Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year. In January 2012, he was the recipient of the Eddie Robinson Award as the top coach in FCS football.

The UConn years (2002-08)Ambrose joined the staff at UConn as the Huskies grew from an NCAA Division I-AA program into a major college contender. During his seven seasons in Storrs, Connecticut, the Huskies were 49-36 with just two losing seasons. UConn made three bowl appearances in five years, debuted in the AP national rankings at 16th, and won a share of the Big East title in 2007. Joining the staff as the quarterbacks coach, Ambrose played a major role in the development of Dan Orlovsky, the first UConn quarterback to play in the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick by the Detroit Lions. In 2008 as the offensive coordinator, Ambrose coached Donald Brown, an All-American and the 2008 BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Year. Brown led the nation with 2,083 yards on 367 carries and became the first UConn player to be selected in the first round of the NFL draft.

His first head coaching job – Catholic (2001)Ambrose left Towson after the 2000 season to become the head coach at Catholic University, a Division III program in Washington, D.C. In one year at Catholic, Ambrose led the Cardinals to a 3-7 record.

As a Tiger assistant (1992-2000)In nine years as a Tiger assistant, the team went 54-36 with only two losing seasons. Ambrose started as a student-assistant before being promoted to wide receivers coach in 1993, offensive coordinator in 1997 and then to associate head coach in 2000. He coached four All-Americans in running back Tony Vinson, quarterback Dan Crowley, and wide receivers Mark Orlando and Jamal White. Vinson led the nation in rushing yards (2,016), all-purpose yards (2,073) and points scored (138) in 1993. Vinson went on to be a

fifth-round draft pick of the San Diego Chargers. Orlando earned All-America notice by catching 55 passes for 1,223 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 1999, Towson led the nation in passing yardage, averaging 381.2 passing yards per game.

His collegiate playing careerAs a player at Towson, Ambrose started his career as a quarterback but moved to wide receiver as a sophomore. In 1990, he caught four passes for 20 yards. As a junior, he had four catches for 35 yards. Three of those receptions were touchdown passes from Dan Crowley. He caught an 11-yard TD pass at James Madison, a seven-yard TD toss at Liberty and a 14-yard TD pass against Hofstra. An injury in the spring before his senior year forced Ambrose to the sidelines.

The Ambrose familyThe Tigers’ coach is the son of one of the most successful high school football coaches in Maryland. His father, Tim, was the head coach at Middletown for 31 years and won 249 games, leading the Knights to 14 Monocacy Valley League championships. He retired in 2013, just in time to follow the Tigers’ march to the NCAA championship game. The former athletic director at Middletown, he stepped down as football coach after the 2004 season. Coach Ambrose’s brother, Jared, was an assistant football coach at Delaware for two years before joining the Tigers’ staff. He is currently the program’s offensive coordinator. Ambrose and his wife, Melissa, have two children: Grace and Riley.

EAST CAROLINA

GREENVILLE, N.C. -- Towson went toe-to-toe with FBS foe East Carolina Saturday night and found themselves with a chance to tie the game late. The Tigers were unable to reach the endzone and dropped its season opener, 28-20, to the Pirates at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.

Towson got on the board on their first possession of the season as Connor Frazier capped 12-play drive with a 30-yard touchdown pass to Brian Dowling.

The Tigers would drive deep into Pirates territory in the second and third quarters, but had to settle for field goals (23, 32) from Sam Hurwitz.

Towson reached the endzone again in the fourth quarter after Darius Victor broke free on a 24-yard run down to the goaline. On the next play, Frazier scored on the quarterback sneak.

The defense would force a punt and give Towson the chance to tie the game late. Victor carried the ball five times on six plays to help the Tigers get into the redzone. Unfortunately, the drive stalled as the fourth-down pass was broken up.

Frazier finished the day with a career-high 221 yards on 15-of-28 passing. He also rushed for 43 yards and a score.

Victor continued his strong running by finishing with 137 yards on 28 totes.

Nico Law led the defense with 10 tackles.

TOWSON, Md. -- Darius Victor ran for a pair of touchdowns and the Towson defense held Saint Francis to just 197 yards of offense in the Tigers 35-20 victory in the 2015 home opener.

Victor capped an 18-play opening drive with a one-yard touchdown run. He followed it up with a seven-yard scoring run in the second quarter.

Donnell Lewis got into the scoring act as he returned a punt 49 yards for a second-quarter score. It was the first punt return for a touchdown for Lewis and the first for the Tigers since week three a season ago.

Connor Frazier had his second-straight big game as he threw for 269 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for another score.

Jacquille Veii led the receivers with four catches for 115 yards. Included in those catches was a one-handed grab around the back of the defender.

The Tiger defense controlled the Red Flash all night as they limited SFU to just 29 yards rushing on 30 attempts.

SFU got the majority of their yards in the second half after being held to just 32 yards of offense in the first half.

Jordan Mynatt led the defense with seven tackles and 1.5 sacks. Clifton Jones added 1.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles-for-loss.

HOLY CROSS

TOWSON

29

TOWSON, Md. -- Junior Darius Victor rushed for a career-best 207 yards and three touchdowns as Towson rallied from a halftime deficit to defeat Holy Cross, 29-26.

Victor did the majority of his damage in the second half as he ran for 116 yards and scored all three touchdowns in the game’s final 30 minutes.

After trailing by nine at the half, Victor set the tone in the second half with a 54-yard run on the first play from scrimmage. He capped the drive with a one-yard TD run before going 34 yards for a score on the next possession.

The Tigers got a little tricky in the fourth quarter as they successfully executed a fake field goal as Connor Frazier hit kicker Sam Hurwitz for a 10-yard gain. On the next play, Victor scored what turned out to be the game-winning touchdown from four yards out.

The defense secured the victory by stopping the Crusaders at midfield on the final possession of the game. Alfonso Augustine and Nico Law each recorded their first interceptions as Tigers. Both interceptions were aided by pressure on the quarterback.

Jacquille Veii had another big day on the outside with seven catches for 71 yards.

ELON, N.C. -- Towson jumped out to an early lead, but they were not able to sustain as a driving rain and injuries aided the Tigers 13-17 loss at Elon.

The Tigers defense got off to a fast start as Alfonso Augustine forced and recovered a fumble on the first play from scrimmage. Towson was unable to convert a fourth down and turned the ball back over.

On the next possession, Darius Victor scored from four yards out to give Towson the lead.

Later in the first quarter, freshman Shane Simpson broke out of the pack and raced for a 49-yard touchdown.

After injuries left the Tigers very thin at running back, quarterback Connor Frazier put the team on his back and set a quarterback rushing record by running for 132 yards on 20 attempts.

The Tigers had one final drive to win the game. Frazier led Towson down to the Elon 15. After a fumble, Frazier looked to spike the ball with one second remaining on the clock. The officials ruled it came after the buzzer and the game was over.

In just one half of play, Simpson finished with 72 yards and his first touchdown on nine attempts.

Jacquille Veii led the receivers with five catches for 38 yards. Brian Dowling added four catches for 46 yards.

The Tiger defense allowed just 72 yards on the ground and 205 total yards.

Jon Desir led the team with eight tackles, while Eddie Releford added 1.5 sacks.

TOWSON, Md. -- Freshman Lyrics Klugh set a single-game record with 211 kickoff return yards, but it was not enough as Towson fell, 51-30, to No. 5 James Madison at Unitas Stadium.

The Dukes took advantage of a fumble on the opening kickoff to jump out to an early lead.

Towson got back into the game with a one-yard touchdown run from Darius Victor.

The Tigers kept the JMU offense off the field in the second quarter with an 8:32 drive that ended with a Christian Summers eight-yard touchdown reception from Connor Frazier.

Sam Hurwitz would close out the first half with a career-long 41-yard field goal as time expired.

Frazier would connect on second half touchdown passes to Emmanuel Holder and Summers. The three touchdown passes for Frazier established a new career best.

Klugh had second-half kickoff returns of 77 and 65 yards on his way to setting a single-game record with 211 yards.

Eric Handy led the defense with 14 tackles and a sack.

STONY BROOK, N.Y. -- On a night that was dominated by the Towson defense, it was Darius Victor’s six-yard touchdown run with less than a minute to play that completed the Tigers 21-14 comeback victory over Stony Brook.

After falling behind 14-0 nothing in the first quarter, Max Tejada delivered a big sack that resulted in Donnell Lewis scooping up the ball and racing 65 yards for a touchdown.

That was just the beginning for the defense as they allowed just eight yards in the second quarter and 31 yards in the third quarter.

The offense got going to start the second half as Connor Frazier returned to the lineup and led the Tigers on a 14-play drive. Victor capped the drive with a three-yard touchdown run.

SB put together one drive in the fourth quarter, but the defense got a stop when it mattered and the Seawolves missed a field goal.

The Towson offense took over at its own 20-yard line with just under four minutes to play.

The game-winning nine-play drive was done on the ground and through the air. After Frazier hit Jacquille Veii for 17 yards and a first down, Victor covered the final 17 yards on the next two plays, reaching the endzone from six yards out.

Victor finished the day with 73 yards and two touchdowns.

Tejada recorded a pair of sacks and forced a fumble, while freshman linebackers Chris Tedder and Diondre Wallace combined for 17 tackles.

TOWSON, Md. -- The Towson defense held Delaware to just 102 yards of offense in posting its first shutout in over a decade with a 19-0 victory over the Blue Hens at Johnny Unitas Stadium.

The shutout was the first since the Tigers defeated Lock Haven, 70-0, on September 10, 2005.

The 102 yards allowed is the fewest allowed by the Tigers to an FCS opponent since joining the FCS in 1987.

Towson got on the scoreboard early in the second quarter as Sam Hurwitz hit on a 34-yard field goal.

It was just the beginning of a career day for Hurwitz as he was a perfect 4-for-4 on field goals. The four field goals tied a school record that was set in 1984. He connected from 34, 39, 27 and 39 yards.

The Tigers scored the lone touchdown of the game in the second quarter as Darius Victor capped an 11-play drive with a one-yard touchdown run on fourth down. For Victor, it was his 10th rushing touchdown of the season.

Wide receiver Christian Summers had a breakout game as he caught eight passes for 133 yards. He did the majority of his damage in the first half with six catches for 125 yards in the opening half.

Quarterback Connor Frazier had one of his best efforts of his career by going 25-of-34 for 284 yards. He connected with eight different receivers in the win.

Donnell Lewis led a defense that gave up just 14 passing yards with nine tackles and an interception.

Zain Harps Upshur added six tackles, 2.5 tackles-for-loss, a sack and a forced fumble.
