Rhyolite, garnetiferous, visible amphibole s, banded to massive, carbonate ;
in cracks disseminated pyrite-pyrrhotite. Garnets stop at 231, occasional
poikiloblastic amphibole horizons. Feldspar porphyry at 281, 294. A few
tuff interbeds a foot or so thick.

Overburden T ~.
Tuff, disseminated to massive pyrrhotite -pyrite in mud-like material, very
fine grained, same as in Hole 1, 142^-5 - 148, banded. Pyrrhotitic mud's'^e
gradually gives way to pyrrhotitic amphibolite.
Amphibolite, garnetiferous, considerable pyrrhotite in clusters or bands of
tuffs or siltstone, decreasing. Sampled 15 to 65 except 47. 5-49 k 54-55.
Rhyolite, occasional feldspar porphyry horizons, rare garnet k pyrite.
Amphibole very scarce above 153. Fl^w surface at 72, 82, 133, 164, 194.
Tuff or chert at 85-1^, 94-99, 163&165, 242-43, 264-279, 288-290.

Rhyolite, weakly foliated, banded, visible hornblende locally, rare feldspar,
phenocryst, also rare garnets. -
Mineralized tuffs, bands of pyrrhotized silt, gradually becoming coarser
grained, bands of chert and amphibolite bands, locally contorted.W*
Sampled 78 to "8^-5. Local graphite,
Amphibolite with contorted chert fc phyrrhotiferous mud bands a few inches
thick at 102, 107-109, 113, 117.
Garnetiferous amphibolite, garnets stop at 135. Amphibole content decreases.
Rhyolite, amphibolitic, massive, local amphibolite layers, garnet rare,
poikiloblastic below 230,

As above, but amphibolite bands are garnetiferous and numerous chert like
bands containing very thin (1/4 inch) pyrrhotite bands every few inches.
Some pyrrhotite in cross cutting cracks. Pyrite rare.

phenocrvsts, f l^w tops at 502, 517-19. 524-30. 540. Foliation weak at 45*
