August 2010 Dear Friend, One of the best features of living in Kent County is that we help each other, especially those in need. Today a number of Kent County residents who are without medical insurance are in need of medical care. The local free medical clinic which serves them also needs and deserves assistance. At the Townsend Memorial Medical Clinic, located in Rock Hall’s Town Hall, three part-time volunteer medical staff provide basic primary medical care and referrals for residents of Kent County who are uninsured. The doctors’ contribution of their time and talent has been assisted by the generosity of the Town of Rock Hall, which has provided the office space and all utilities for the clinic. Several community organizations and donors have contributed over the years, but the need increases annually. Since patients are uninsured, there is no reimbursement for medical services rendered. Last year the clinic served 2,000 patient visits. These are patients who would otherwise not get medical treatment at all or would use the resources of the local emergency room for non-emergency situations. There has never been a formal fundraising drive for the clinic…until now. Continued operation relies on expanded community financial support. Funding at this time is critical for basic medical supplies and to offset the extraordinary cost of providing services.
