The Towne group of company’s have been manufacturers,

suppliers and installers of quality lifting and securing

equipment in the north of England since the 1940’s. Initially

serving the trawler industry in Hull. The company has grown

in both reputation and stature and now also has branches

in Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Fleetwood, providing

expertise in a wide range of lifting equipment products and

associated services to all sectors of industry.

Our fully qualified engineers are able to carry out statutory

detailed thorough examinations of all your lifting equipment

backed up, if required, by non-destructive and load testing.

testing facilities (up to 200 te) and examination equipment to

ensure our customers have complete peace of mind, happy

in the knowledge that free advice on all lifting equipment

matters is just a phone call away.

Our site service teams carry out repairs, re-roping of cranes,

load testing, NDT, installations, maintenance, specialist lifts

Load Testing

All our branches are equipped with load testing machines,

the largest of which can provide a 200 tonne tensile load

force, enabling us to carry out verification load tests, where

required, on equipment undergoing “thorough

examination”. The test beds are also used to carry out

destruction tests on prototypes in order to verify design

calculations and minimum breaking loads, and for

information to be recorded in technical registers.

Our site service teams have a large stock of test weights,

which together with Load Cell Indicators, are used for

carrying out dynamic load tests on all types of cranes,

derricks, lifting beams and structures. Alternatively they may

use water bags or hydraulic jacking rigs to provide the

required load force.

These tests are backed up, where required, with

non–destructive testing such as Magnetic Particle

Inspection.

All our testing machines and load cells are independently

calibrated by a third party.


Crane Maintenance and Re-roping

Our experienced and highly qualified service engineers are

able to provide on-site examinations, repairs, testing,

installation, fitting, fabrication, welding and modifications to all

types of lifting equipment and portable equipment. We can

also supply specialist labour to carry out rigging work,

installation or removal of machinery and equipment.

We carry out routine maintenance and re-roping of many

types of cranes and material handling machines to all sectors

of industry. Our experience covers, Dock Side Cranes, Ships

Derricks, Lifeboats and Davits, Mooring and Anchor Winches,

MOD Vehicles, Vehicle Mounted Cranes, Over Head Travelling

Cranes and Winches etc.

Our Engineers are fully mobile each having a modern

van/pickup and are fully equipped with tools and equipment

to travel around the U.K.

Fabrications

Towne Engineers are able to fabricate, install, and

commission a wide range of crane and runway structures,

swing jibs, lifting / spreader beams, lifting clamps and jigs,

fork truck attachments and A frames etc.

• Built to meet the customers specified requirements and

environments.

Swing Jib Cranes

Swing Jib cranes offer a cost effective solution to areas

where access is difficult with other types of cranes, or above

machinery where only small lifting radii are required and

can be either wall mounted, free standing, overbraced or

underbraced. Slewing radius can be fixed or rotate up to 360º.


Material Handling

Pioneer Pallet Trucks

The Pioneer pallet truck will lift loads up

to 2000kg from a minimum height of

74mm to a maximum of 190mm and is

available in various fork widths and

lengths to meet the requirements of

virtually all applications.

Pioneer Hi-Lift Truck

The Hi-Lift Truck lifts loads up to 1000kg

from a minimum height of 90mm to

maximum height of 800mm and can be

used to assist in loading a van or used as

a worktable.

Pioneer Trolley Lift

With its hydraulic power the trolley lift

enables the operator to handle a wide

variety of loads up to 2000kg with minimum

effort. The platform has an area of 380 x

380mm and an arm with a reach of 240mm

and they can be quickly interchanged. The

large diameter wheels make movement easy and the

retractable and compensating casters ensure positive steering

and controlled manoeuvring of the load.

Pakrol Skates and Trolley Skates

Designed for manually moving heavy and

rigid loads the Pakrol Skates have a robust

frame and need minimum maintenance.

The load plate has thrust bearings

and all models have a handle to

facilitate transportation. Available

from 8te to 20te.

Hydrofor Hydraulic Toe Jacks

A hydraulic bottle jack for a wide range

of applications with a casing moulded

from a single block and a stable steel base

plate. The lifting toe rotates 360º around the

column and the lowering speed can be

controlled including an instant stop.

A wide range of other equipment is available to assist

you no matter what your material handling needs, such

as drum carriers, crane forks, mechanical jacks etc. We

are happy to advise and assist you to find a solution.

Chains

Towne Lifting and Testing is an authorised distributor for Parsons

Chain Company, the manufacturer of the British made Kuplex 8

+ 10 chain system.

The dual system with its enhanced wear and fatigue properties

has long been the market leader for alloy chain slings to BS EN

818-4.

With chain and components stocked from 6mm—32mm we can

offer a quick and versatile solution to your slinging requirements.

We can assemble slings with one, two, three or four legs, with or

without shortening clutches and terminating with a wide variety

of hook options, ranging in SWL from 1te to 85te. We can also

supply a range of special purpose slings.

Our staff can give you help and assistance in choosing the right

sling for your requirements.

grade 100 all-inclusive Grabiq chain sling system produced by

Gunnebo, as well as being stockists for Hacketts, Crosby, Pewag and

RUD chain systems.

All equipment is assembled at our premises by our qualified lifting

a large stock of Shackles. We keep a full range of US Fed. Spec.

Alloy Steel, High Tensile Steel and Commercial standard Mild

Steel Shackles. All our branches keep a wide range of

manufactuers shackles such as Crosby, Green Pin Alloy

Shackles and High Tensile Shackles.

Eyebolts

Towne Lifting and Testing carry a full range of British Standard (BS), European

Standard (DIN) and Commercial Pattern Eyebolts, Eyenuts and Bownuts in stock at

all branches. Available from: 6mm (1/4") Up to: 76mm (3") dia. These items can be

supplied with Working Loads up to 25 tonnes. There are many different styles of each

product available and variations can be supplied to customer's specific requirements

i.e. Long Shank Lengths, Large Eye Dimensions, Galvanised, Sheradized, Tested and

Untested. We also stock RUD Lifting Points in alloy steel, variants of which have swivel

capabilities for self alignment.

Hand Chain Hoist Model VS Capacities 500 - 20,000 kg

The robust all-steel construction has

roller or ball bearings fitted to all

rotating components. This reduces

friction and increases efficiency. The hoist

is epoxy resin coated as standard.

Features

The hand chain cover with special slots

and the optimal design of the hand

chain wheel prevent the hand chain

from blocking and derailing. Hardened load chain sheave with

four precision machined pockets. Two guide rollers and one

chain stripper ensure accurate alignment of the load chain over

the load sheave. All brake components are manufactured from

high quality materials and are zinc plated and chromalized for

added corrosion protection.

Pul-Lift® C85 - With Roller Chain Capacities 750 - 10,000 kg

Enclosed housing with housing cover,

handlever and lower block made from high

tensile white malleable cast iron for overall

rugged construction.

The roller chain sprocket is made from heat

treated chromium-molybdenum steel with

precision machined teeth to ensure smooth

chain movement.

The graphite cast iron load sheave for the link chain has

precision machined chain pockets for accurate fit and durability

of the load chain.

The CPE series is a range of high quality products for

Yale®

Clamps

Towne Lifting and Testing are authorised distributors and

repairers of Camlok Lifting Clamps, which is the world

renowned manufacturer of below the hook lifting equipment

in the UK, for the steel fabrication, construction and rail

industries. Camlok Clamps are used in factories, docks and

harbours to lift plate, beams, rail and other sections. To

complement the vast array of clamps, Camlok also

manufacture scissor grabs, C hooks, tripods and forks. Their

products lift everything from containers to sheet piles and are

all available from Towne Lifting and Testing.

Hydraulic Jacks

A huge range of top quality products for general lifting, pushing,

pulling moving and supporting of loads.

Yale®

Wire Ropes

Our Time Served Riggers have supplied wire ropes for over 50

years, each rigger has the ability to splice any size of wire rope,

re-rope cranes and winches and machine press wires in-house up

to 52mm dia with a variety of end fittings to suit customers needs.

This enables us to supply the most suitable rope to each of our

customers. The following ropes are part of our standard

programme, please send us your enquiry even if you don't find

the products you need on this list:

Standard ropes

6x7, 6x19, 6x24, 6x19s, 6x19 fi (fi = galvanized for

the fishing industry) (6x25), 6x36, 8x19 fi (8x25), 8x36, 18x7,

37x7 with diameters ranging up to 78 mm.

Special thick-wire

Robust designs for the fishing industry, as well as 3-strand

ropes. Strands 1x7, 1x19, 1x37, 1x61, 1x91, up to 40 mm

We supply these ropes ungalvanized or galvanized, of stainless

steel 1.4401 or of special materials.

For the fishing industry, we supply ropes with heavily

galvanized wires; GALFAN-coated wires are also used. Ropes

with fibre or steel core; in cross or equal lay finish

manufactured with normal or compacted strands.

Non-rotating special wire ropes Soliflex and Triflex also

available in stainless steel.

For onboard cranes, there are a variety of 4-strand ropes

available.

Fibre Ropes

Due to our historical links with Hull’s trawler industry, our

riggers have over 50 years experience in wire and fibre rope

work. Our time served riggers can perform a variety of hand

splicing activities to suit the needs of our customers, from hand

splicing mooring ropes to complex rigging on yachts. Our

riggers have the skills required to ensure any rigging project can

be fulfilled.

Distributors for English Braids and Bridon Ropes we have

strong links with the rope works industry. We can supply

almost any type of fibre rope for marine, industrial, agriculture

and yachting purposes.


Webbing Lifting / Lashing

Towne Lifting and Testing encompass its own facilities to

manufacture webbing slings and lashing equipment. This

enables us to produce slings and associated products to

customer requirements and short working times. We stock a

large range of Duplex and Simplex webbing slings, round slings

and lashing equipment to satisfy any customers needs.

Cargo Securing

Our riggers are all fully qualified and have over 40 years

experience in lashing and securing all types of cargo on vessels

throughout the world. Working to the code of Safe Practice for

Cargo Stowage, our riggers can secure your goods in the safest

possible manner giving a shipping line, underwriters, or shipper,

satisfaction that their goods are safely and professionally

secured.

Fall Protection

The single biggest risk to life within the construction industry is

falling from height. Legislation insists upon employer’s ensuring

employees are properly protected.

Towne Lifting and Testing are approved distributors of the Tractel

range of height safety equipment, with a variety of temporary or

permanent products to suit all working applications. We can

advise you on the right equipment for the job, whether your

requirements are for fall restraint, fall arrest or work positioning.

We stock a wide range of full body harnesses, from general

purpose through to specialist harnesses for Riggers, Linesmen,

Arborists etc, with a vast range of fall arrest or work positioning

lanyards and connectors.

The Blocfor range of retractable lifelines allows freedom of

movement when working at height and are available in various

lengths in both wire and webbing.

As a leading distributor for Tractel Height Safety Equipment we

are fully authorised to carry out repairs and maintenance on all

Training Solutions

The movement of materials and equipment around the work

place is central to most organizations operations. Many

hazardous procedures are involved in the slinging and lifting of

loads.

With the legal and insurance problems forever being elevated in

importance it is even more vital today to ensure that the correct

equipment is selected, used safely, examined and that lifting

operations are controlled properly.

Above all, it is critical that all personnel involved in the slinging

and lifting of loads are trained and fully conversant with safe

systems of work and slinging techniques necessary. In addition,

that they are up to date with current safety legislation and safety

regulations.

Towne Lifting and Testing offer a comprehensive training

programme, which can be adapted to suit your needs and

equipment.

The courses can be carried out at your premises keeping costs
