Bd. Director Pat TulchinMulti-talented, with three generations residing at Towers

S eneca the Younger said, “You learn to know a pi-lot in a storm.” It takes an experienced pilot to handle a boat in a storm, and new North Shore Towers Board Director Pat Tulchin has served on

numerous boards and committees which provided, over the years, enough storm and strife to enable her to handle any crisis that the NST Board may be confronted with.

She and her husband, Ted, moved to North Shore Tow-ers in 2000. Her daughter, Jill, was living here four years by that time. It took some months to find an apartment, because the Tulchins wanted it to be in the same build-ing and on the same elevator line as their daughter and their granddaughter, Sara. In that way, Sara could take the elevator easily by herself when she was old enough and wanted to visit her grandparents.

Sara enjoyed the playground for young children on the premises as well as the swimming facilities. She also was happy to go to Gymboree class. “There is need for an indoor playroom which could be used by children and grandchildren of the residents,” the recently elected direc-tor said. “We should have amenities important to young families to encourage them to live here.”

Her son, Steven, then moved to North Shore Towers, which enabled her to have the perspective of three genera-tions living here. The Tulchin family has always appreci-ated the numerous benefits and conveniences to be found at NST and, in fact, has recommended the complex as an ideal place to live to a number of friends many of whom have moved here and are happy that they did.

Ted ran for and was elected to the Board in June 2005, but before he could accomplish all that he had planned he became ill and passed away after serving just six months. It was a loss, not only to the Tulchin family, but also to the residents who would have benefitted from his leadership.

Pat has always been active in the communities where she’s lived. She was Office Manager of STA International for 15 years, and while residing in Westbury she was a founding member of the Community Reform Temple and was Sisterhood President and Temple Treasurer. A for-mer Board member of Queens Theater in the Park, she is a Queens College Arts Advisory Board Member and a founding member of the Jewish Community Center of Sherman, Connecticut.

At NST Towers, she was President of the Ladies Golf

By Barbara Levy Association and was on the Country Club Committee. “I have always believed in contributing whatever I can to en-hance the areas in which I have lived,” she said. “I want to increase the pleasure my neighbors feel in their com-munity.”

“I decided to run for the Board this year despite my children’s negative comments,” she continued. “They were concerned that the 24/7 commitment that might be demanded of me would cost me the ability to have a per-sonal life. While I realize that it is a big commitment, liv-ing here has given me, and all of my family, so much plea-sure that whatever contributions I can make to improve the lives of my friends and neighbors, it would be worth it. “

After being elected to the Board, Tulchin became Chair-person of the GAP Committee that includes the Gym, the Aerobics classes and the Pools. “I look forward to working with my committee,” she said, “and doing what we can to enhance the resident’s enjoyment in utilizing this aspect of their NST lifestyle.”

She has always believed in sound financial planning and spending money wisely. Before the Board approves a large expenditure, she suggests that the shareholders be made aware of the need, the cost and the financing of the project. “The Board shall then know the feelings of the residents before it makes the final decision,” she said.

“Ted and I originated the concept of having concert pia-nists and other musicians perform in the VIP room, some of whom are well recognized on the concert tour today,” she added. “The programs recently presented by Queens College that I originated have also been well received.”

Henry Kissinger wrote, “A leader does not deserve the name unless he is willing occasionally to stand alone.” Tulchin is an independent thinker who is not afraid to state her opinion on any issue, however, leadership occasionally demands going along with the consensus if the board is to achieve a common goal, and she expects to do that if the result will be a positive one for her neighbors.

“From my experience on boards and committees, I’ve learned the value of communication,” she said. “I’m al-ways available to talk to anyone who has a problem or who has an idea of how to improve our facilities.”

Howard Geneen believes that, “A true leader has to have a genuine open-door policy so that his people are not afraid to approach him.” Tulchin agrees and says, “Just call me, I’m in the directory, or talk to me in the Ar-cade and I’ll be happy to listen to you.”

She has made a difference in the past and will do the same in the future to insure that her neighbors have the benefit of her creative ideas, of her energy on their behalf, and her compassion when it is needed. She pledges to be an active participant on the NST Board of Directors and the residents will be the beneficiaries.

“I have some interesting ideas, and I hope to implement them with the Board’s approval,” she concluded. “The coming year will be an exciting one for NST residents and I’m happy to play a part in it.”

“While I realize that it is a big commitment, living here has given me, and all of my family, so much pleasure that whatever con-tributions I can make to improve the lives of my friends and neighbors, it would be worth it.”

CUNY Club Becomes University Club

Joanne Groen, Fran Feigenbaum, Shirley Wershba, Lila Goodman, and Toby Wasserman.

A new club was born at North Shore Towers on Monday, June 30th. The former CUNY Club is now The

University Club, welcoming alumni of all institutions of higher learning. With inter-esting programs, a stimulating exchange of ideas and opinions and, it is hoped, an ex-citing array of activities, residents will find the intellectual and enriching environment they have been seeking.

An overflow crowd enjoyed a moving presentation of the CBS 40th anniversary of VE Day broadcast that aired in 1985 from London. Dan Rather was the host, and an impressive array of World War II correspondents, including Walter Cronkite, William L. Shirer, Charles Collingwood, Eric Severeid, Winston Burdett, Richard C. Hottielet, Douglas Edwards, Andy Rooney and Ernie Leiser. They recalled their ex-periences and traded stories of their days on the front lines as they reported the war news to the people at home.

This broadcast was produced by North Shore Towers own Shirley Wershba dur-ing her career at CBS. She has been trans-

By Judith Tane ferring her original tapes to DVDs and thought this particular presentation would be of interest to club members. Her in-stincts obviously proved to be right.

A very lively discussion followed the program, comparing how news was once relayed to the public and how it is delivered now, when it appears to be more and more difficult to obtain objective information and find unbiased sources. The questions and answers from the audience provoked heated reactions about current issues, and Wershba reminded everyone of the neces-sity of educating ourselves about the pro-tections of our First Amendment.

At the meeting, members signed up for various proposed activities, such as a book club, theater trips, museum and gallery vis-its, a political discussion group, and new ideas. Wershba asked for those interested in serving on a program committee to meet with her and explained that there are lots of great suggestions, but what is needed are volunteers to take on the tasks of or-ganizing and implementing the activities. It was explained that University Club dues of $10.00 per year are used for expenses involved with obtaining guest speakers and

Towers Tales: Keith Sheldon, 30-Year Resident

Keith Sheldon at the North Shore Towers golf course.

K eith Sheldon has lived at North Shore Towers for more than 30 years. This youthful guy with pre-maturely gray hair has been collecting Golf tro-

phies for his prowess on the links. We caught up with him in the VIP Room recently.

What are some of your earliest memories as a child?Growing up in Roslyn. My father was a very success-

ful high-end costume jewelry manufacturer. He built a

Fred Chernow

large house in Nob Hill and I had a privileged childhood. Marilyn and Ir-win Sheldon were caring and support-ive of my ideas and projects as a kid. At age 12 I became a weekend caddy at the Old Westbury Country Club, where my parents belonged. During the summer I sold ices on the sand in

Jones Beach and soon hustled younger kids to do the work for me.

All along I was fascinated with cars, especially clas-sic and exotic cars. While my friends were delivering newspapers to make money, I was selling cars from my parents driveway. I sold a 1963 Corvair for $450 through an ad in Newsday. I paid $50 for it. This led to sales of rebuilt Jags, Mercedes, and a Porche.

You left your family home and moved to your own place at age 19. How did you finance that?

I was part of the disco dance craze. Soon I started hosting parties and charging admission. I was too young

to drink and certainly too young to sell drinks. I arranged with venues like the Swan Club and Manhattan venues to host my parties. I would keep the “door,” which was $15 a person and they would sell the drinks. Some nights we had 200 guests making it quite lucrative for each of us.

When did selling cars become your full-time business as well as your passion?

I opened European Auto Classics, Ltd in Great Neck in 1979 and it really took off. It became the prime source for a vintage Rolls, Maserati, Ferrari or other classic car. My other passion was golf, having become the NST Club Champion in 2007. Much of my free time was spent on my boat, a 43-foot Wellcraft which I called the “Portofino” and kept it at the Capri Marina in Manhasset. At age 24 I was flying on a private Lear Jet to another show room in Beverly Hills. This led to my building a $l.5 million dollar 40,000 square-foot facility in Syosset which housed 150 classic and exotic motorcars.

What are you doing now?Besides working out at the NST fitness center and play-

ing golf, I help my neighbors buy, sell, or lease popular-priced new and used cars. I get great satisfaction helping people get out of any lease without penalty. My 40 years of contacts in the automotive business has made it possible to help my neighbors. I’m fascinated with the prototype of the cars of the future. That my be my next challenge.

performers, as well as for clerical services.Members will be notified about the next

meeting and in the meantime should try to activate the committees that have been proposed.

Everyone agreed that this first meeting of the University Club was a great success and follows the standards already set by the CUNY Club.

July’s Featured VIP Room ProgramsVariety is the buzzword for our programs for Country

Club members in August. Andre Rieu: Live in Tuscany

(Monday, August 11)The ever-popular Andre Rieu and his Johann Strauss

Orchestra and Chorus return to the VIP Room, this time on a summer evening in Tuscany. André Rieu is a master of light classical music, and here he is at his best. The program was recorded in the Piazza de la Repubblica in the Italian city of Cortona. Songs include “Chanson d’amour,” the “Toreador Song” from Carmen, the “Ra-detzky” march, and the galloping fi nales of the William Tell and Light Cavalry overtures. The audience sings along to “La donna e mobile,” the drinking song from La traviata, and, movingly, the Italian national anthem.

Neil Diamond: Hot August Night/NYC(Thursday, August 14)

“No, I majored in biology, in a pre-med program.”Neil Diamond

Thank heaven for would-be med students. Recorded live at Madison Square Garden in August, 2008, this con-cert features all of Diamond’s career-spanning hits, includ-ing “Holly Holy,” “Brooklyn Roads,” “Song Sung Blue” and “America.” Backed by the band that has supported him for the past 30 years, Diamond makes it look easy.

By Stephen SilvermanEntertainment Committee Chairperson

The high point of the show is, of course, a rousing mid-set “Sweet Caroline” that has the entire arena on its feet.

The Beatles: A Hard Day’s Night(Thursday, August 21)

“Those pivotal appearances on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ weren’t the only Beatles milestones 50 years ago. This year is also the 50th anniversary of the release of “ A Hard Day’s Night,” the fi rst of the band’s fi ve feature fi lms and, in many minds, the best. It’s a sometimes droll, sometimes frenetic farce in which the four band members play ver-sions of themselves, goofi ng off, running from screaming fans and such. And, of course, through it all is the music, including the title song with its fabulous opening chord.

“The Beatles weren’t the fi rst to fi nd the kind of fame worthy of the suffi x “mania”—just ask Frank Sinatra or El-vis Presley — but in this early period, at least, they seemed to be enjoying it more than most and understanding the nature of it and how to manipulate it. All of which makes the fi lm both a fascinating time capsule and a founding document for the media-saturated age.” –Neil Genzlinger, The New York Times, June 29, 2014

Experience a truly fun, madcap and nostalgic movie with some of The Beatles’ most enjoyable songs, includ-ing “And I Love Her, ” “I Should Have Known Better,” “She Loves You” and “Can’t Buy Me Love.”

Joshua Bell: The Nobel Prize Concert(Thursday, August 28)

Virtuoso violinist Joshua Bell lights up the stage with

the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra in a daz-zling performance of Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, the centerpiece of the Nobel Prize Concert in Stockholm hon-oring the 2010 Nobel Laureates. Part of the offi cial Nobel Week, this concert opens with Beethoven’s Leonore Over-ture. Closing the evening is Symphony No. 5 by Sibelius.

Lecturer Louise Cella Caruso presented “Meet Me at the Musée d’orsay in Paris, Wednesday, June 25th in the VIP Room. The history of the Musée D’Orsay’s building is quite unusual. In the center of Paris on the banks of the Seine, opposite the Tuile-ries Gardens, the museum was installed in the for-mer Orsay railway station, built for the Universal Exhibition of 1900. So, the building itself could be seen as the fi rst “work of art” in the Musee d’Orsay, which displays collections of art from the period 1848 to 1914.”

Workouts Are NST Couple’s Passion

Mona and Paul Taradash of Building 3.

P aul Taradash (Bldg. 3) hits the gym almost every-day. If he doesn’t make it before work, he shows up there after. Grueling effort to lift dumbbells and

straining to bench press is fun to him.“I workout with dead weights, but I like to use the bi-

cycles too,” he said.Taradash also plays golf on the Towers course as of-

ten as he can, since he and his wife Mona moved here six

couple’s son lives in Pittsburgh, and they visit him several times a year.

Taradash’s father owned retail shops, and he grew up in the business. He is a sales associate for Hugo Boss at Roosevelt Field.

“I’ve always been in sales and I enjoy it,” he said. “I love meeting people and finding out about them.”

Asked to discuss his sales techniques, he said, “Make

years ago. They gave up their house on Long Is-land when they became empty nesters, and both say they love their new home.

“No more shoveling snow, fixing leaks,” he said with a smile. “A house is a liability–until you sell it. Mona wanted to move here, having seen the place while visiting a cousin. She’s a morn-ing person and works out as early as 6:00 am. She opens the gym some days. I’m more of a night person, but we both manage to fit a workout into our schedules.”

When they moved to the Towers, she was still teaching physical education in the Herricks school district. Now she subs, but also helps run the recreation program at Herricks, a job she has had for 30 years.

Paul would like to travel more, but Mona feels anxi-ety flying. “She’s trying to beat it though, and when our daughter, Stacy, opted to have her wedding in the Domini-can Republic, Mona made the trip,” Taradash said.

Their daughter and her family live in Babylon, NY. The

people smile through humor. We have such a va-riety of people coming to the store.”

He said he tries to put people at ease by a friendly comment. To a customer wearing a Yan-kee baseball cap, he might make a jocular remark about the team. “It’s all spontaneous, but if you can connect with a person the next step is easy,” he said.

Taradash also enjoys the people he meets on the golf course when the pro puts together a foursome. “Each one has a story,’ he continued. “We have a lot interesting peo-ple in the co-op.”

He has nothing but praise for the way things are run at the Towers and the Country Club. The Taradashes would like to see more people in their late fifties and early sixties moving in.

“We’re the next generation, and we will help keep this place thrive,” he said.

Cover Story: NST Summer FunBy Sammy Dijan

North Shore Towers is a great place to have a multitude of sum-mer fun and activities, that I creatively expressed on this months

front cover. I came up with different images in every box, reflecting people enjoying themselves in the summer sun at NST. I made a colorful checkerboard design working itself upward and blending its way into the landscape of the Towers, uniting my ideas into one solidly designed piece of artwork.

Note: To see my cover artwork on your computer monitor, where all the colors of my cover will show up much more brilliant looking go to http://www.towertimesonline.com/ and click on my little imagein the upper right hand corner and it will enlarge on your monitor.

USTA Jr. Tournament Returns to TowersPhotos By Jack Schwarz

The end of June saw the return of the U.S. Tennis Association’s Boys and Girls junior tournaments return to the North Shore Towers Tennis Courts. Players ages 14 and 16 competed on their way to this fall’s championships in Michigan. Another junior tournament is scheduled at the Towers for the end of August.

Resident Annelies Karp has volunteered for the last decade to run the tournament at the co-op, and said the event was shortened because there were not enough participants due to school still being in session. “I was disap-pointed, but the kids were great,” she said.

The next Towers event is scheduled to begin Saturday, July 26th for Boys ages 16 and 18 years of age.

Abhinav Srivastava, 13, of Dix Hills (second from left) prepares to compete on the NST courts. Towers Tennis Professional Rick Bates.

Dr. Gary Whittier, PodiatristN orman Cousins said, “Pain is the body’s magic. It’s

the way the body transmits a signal to the brain that something is wrong.”

A wise person will seek professional help in determin-ing the cause and remedy of the pain. This is certainly true if the patient cannot walk because it is so painful and he becomes isolated and depressed as a result.

Dr. Gary Whittier, a North Shore Towers Podiatrist, can

Dr. Whittier is at NST Thursday, Friday and every other Saturday.

He has office hours and does house calls to NST residents during those days. He can also see and treat his patients living in the local area, since they live just a short distance away, but he does their house calls in Queens and Nassau Counties when he is not working at NST.

“Although we have all the equipment needed, this

Barbara Levy

provide that help. He received his degree from the New York College of Podiatric Medicine and then practiced in Bay Ridge in Brooklyn. After one year, he practiced in Glen Oaks for 10 years, then joined a multi-specialty clinic. He practiced there for 15 years, but he left at that time to have knee surgery.

Dr. Whittier’s mother-in-law, a North Shore Towers resident, was in Florida when a hurricane struck New York. Gary and his wife, Sondra, live in Plainview but went to NST during the storm because of the many conveniences to be found here. Sondra, and Dr. Lauren Schwartz, a Podiatrist practicing at New Shore Towers (NST), met while walking their dogs at the Towers. They began to share personal information and were surprised to learn that Dr. Schwartz and Sondra’s husband, Gary, were both Podiatrists.

Dr. Schwartz obtained his phone number and called him. She mentioned that her office here at North Shore Towers was closed Thursday, Friday and every other Saturday. After discussing the details, she offered Dt. Whittier the opportunity to practice on those days that the office was closed. He accepted and has been practicing here since October 1913. He learned that having a pet dog can provide more than love and companionship. Caring for the dog can sometimes provide professional opportunities as well.

The Podiatry office is open on the following days: Dr. Lauren Schwartz is at NST Monday and Wednesday, Dr. Christina Karlic on Tuesday and every other Saturday and

office does not have a whirlpool,” he said. “One valid reason for using a whirlpool is that it’s easier to do exercises in the warm water. It’s not necessary otherwise. Actually, you don’t have to soak the feet to cut nails. In fact, it’s easier when the nails are hard. It’s also easier when treating corns and calluses.”

“Certain foot problems emerge as patients age.” he explained. “The fatty layer under the skin thins out so there is no natural protection for the feet. It’s easier to develop corns and callouses as a result. Arthritis can occur, which can cause the bones to move, eventually causing bunions and hammer toes. Routine foot care, including wound treatment, can be done in the office. If the patient has severe wounds, however, he may be referred to a wound center.”

The article “Bunion Remedies,” in healthcommunities.com/bunions, begins with how a bunion occurs. Inward leaning of the big toe forces the toe out of proper alignment. Pain and swelling of the joint occurs, which may be due to poorly fitting shoes or to arthritis. Some remedies which may help are:

•Avoid shoes that put pressure on the joint. •Use a bunion guard to protect the toe from the shoe. •Soak in warm water, which may provide relief. •Toe separators may help.Dr. Whittier treats fungal nails, a very common

problem as follows:•Conservative treatment consists of trimming the nails

and sanding them down.

•A more severe case usually required medication. Topicals can be brushed on or oral medication may be prescribed.

•Whether topical or oral, the medication may be prescribed for some weeks, because it takes the nails three to six months to grow out.

If laser treatments are necessary, the patient is referred to Dr. Whittier’s colleague, Dr. Schwartz, who has received specialized training to treat fungal nails. The treating Podiatrist will discuss the pros and cons of the treatment the patient will receive so that he understands that it may take months for the problem to be resolved.

Ingrown toenails are a painful, common condition that occurs when the nail presses into the skin. The article, ”Ingrown Toenails Overview” in healthcommunities.com/ingrown-toenails, reviews some of the causes of Ingrown Toenails.” They include trimming the nail incorrectly, stubbing one’s toe or wearing shoes with narrow toe boxes. The skin around the nail may become red or inflamed. To treat the condition, soak in warm soapy water, dry the toe thoroughly, apply a mild antiseptic solution to the area and bandage the toe. If an infection occurs, it should be treated by a physician.”

If there is no pain or no significant problem is present, Dr. Whittier doesn’t recommend medications. “The patient’s health and well-being are always my primary concern.” he said. “At times, it is best to treat as naturally and as simply as possible.”

A few of the problems that may affect the feet have been reviewed, however, there are others that may cause pain and discomfort. Rather than suffer for any length of time, the patient should see a doctor before the problem becomes so severe that the pain will radically

Voltaire wrote, “Men who are occupied in the restoration of health to other men are the great of the earth.” Patients, who can walk with less pain and enjoy their life more fully than they could have hoped for, would agree.

Operalog: ‘The Elixir of Love’Jack Schwarz Photos

Harvey Wechsler brought another Op-eralog program to the North Shore Towers VIP Room, Monday, June 30th. Wechsler provided a clear “blow-by-blow” narration of each act of “The Elixir of Love,” before the audience listened to a most thrilling version of a 1972 performance featuring Joan Sutherland and Luciano Pavarotti.

“Elixir” is a comic opera in two acts by the Italian composer Gaetano Donizetti. Today it is one of the most frequently per-formed of all Donizetti’s operas, and ap-pears as number 13 on the Operabase list of the most-performed operas worldwide in the five seasons between 2008 and 2013.

The new technology group (formerly the Computer Club) met Monday, July 7th in the Coleridge lounge. The main speaker was Mitch Cohen, the owner of “Computer Teach” of Great Neck. Cohen is a “one-on-one” instructional professional who spoke about the pros and cons of upgrading our existing computers.

The second part of the meeting was interactive, with help from Toby Horowitz and Artie Goldsmith who spoke about their favorite search en-gines and websites.

Also discussed was the importance of having a charged cell phone in the

apartment in case your land phone fails. In addition it was recommended that every land phone in the apartment have the telephone number of NST Security taped on the it In an emergency, this is the second call you must make after you call 911. Seconds count and EMT must have an elevator available.

Their next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July 28th at 7:00 pm in the Coleridge Lounge, with guest speaker General Manager Glen Kotowsky. The topic will be Time Warner Cable: Un-raveling the mystery. He will speak about our computer, telephone and TV package.

Arts Show A SuccessCombining colorful computer graphic art with music,

multimedia artist Michael A. Luckman brought the sixth annual North Shore Towers Artist and Artisans show into the digital world of the future. The combination of laptop computer images and music of the past, including Bach’s Prelude in C Major and “All That Jazz,” drew a captivated audience, Sunday, August 14th at the Towers on the Green.

“I’m absolutely thrilled—it’s so original,” event co-or-ganizer Blossom Stone said of Luckman’s work. “I think it’s the highlight of the show.”

$1.7 Million Lobby Renovations ShownPlans for the $1.7 million renovation of all three North

Shore Towers lobbies were revealed at a special meeting, Thursday, July 14, 2005 in the Towers on the Green, where the designer was also introduced.

The updated look was based on the co-op’s advertis-ing theme and campaign slogan, “where the city meets the country.” Designer Beth Donner, a former Towers resi-dent, said she will continue with the buildings’ modern de-sign, replacing the chandeliers and lobby furniture, as well as adding mahogany woodwork, mirrors and art.

“You have beautiful buildings here, beautiful contem-porary design, and what we wanted to do was continue with that fl avor,” she said.

Perhaps one of the most obvious changes when enter-ing the lobby will be the removal of the ornate crystal

chandelier, replacing it with a more contemporary look.“Celebrating” the ceilings, Donner will create stepped

coves in the ceiling with tiles, moldings and lighting. Monochromatic colors with silver and gold leaf highlights will be featured.

AUGUST 2010A Look Back at the Wild Years

Hop aboard the NST Time Machine and take a ride back to the early years, in celebration of the community’s 35th Anniversary. Better strap on your seat belts, because it’s sure to be a bumpy ride–a shocking contrast to its cur-rent demographics and relative tranquility.

As we come to a stop back in the days of Disco, wide lapels, long sideburns, and Polyester Leisure Suit jackets, life at the Towers is virtually unrecognizable. In the 1970s and early 1980s the complex was the home of a thriving nightlife, making it the happening local pick-up place for singles and those who pretended to be. Young residents and their neighbors dined and danced at the Arcade’s pop-ular bar until the morning hours, and some even enjoyed more illicit activities in apartments offering prostitution and a Las Vegas-style casino

Bruckman Celebrates CentennialSidney Bruckman celebrated his 100th birthday with

125 guests at Towers on the Green, Saturday, June 5th. His only regret was that his wife of over 68 years, Rosalind, passed away two years prior and could not share his cen-tennial party with him.

Israeli Colonel Discusses Water ShortageIsraeli Colonel Sharon Davidovich discussed the Jew-

ish National Fund’s goals, during a fundraising presenta-tion for NST residents, Tuesday, June 22 at the Towers on the Green. He focused on the water shortage in his country and surrounding nations, as well as Israel’s relationship with the United States.

Cancer Society FundraiserT he annual fundraiser for the Ameri-

can Cancer Society is a tradition for North Shore Towers Country Club

and has been in existence since 1986. It has grown steadily from the $1,080 collected that year, due to the hard work of past and present chair people.

On Thursday, July 10th the club cel-ebrated this charity function with a hugely successful Golf Tournament, Card Party and Luncheon for 230 people Both men and women enthusiastically embraced the event. The room was filled to capacity and looked beautiful with colorful centerpieces, tablecloths and balloons. We were treated to a wonderful luncheon prepared and served by our own Towers Restaurant. Gus and Harry delighted everyone with the menu, food and service.

In the spirit of giving, over 60 prizes were donated to be raffled off. Our vendor, Linda Silver Designs, had beautiful jewelry, shawls, bags and sweaters to sell. She also helped get many outside gift certificates for restaurants, etc., and donated three beauti-ful gifts to help make our event a success.

After an introductory speech by Paula Franklin, stressing the importance and ne-cessity for raising as much money as we can to aid in the fight against cancer, June

Ingraham, Director of Babes Against Can-cer for ACS was introduced. She addressed the audience on Support of Cancer patients, locally and worldwide, Hope Lodge – free lodging for families and patients at hospitals far from home, and funding of research for all forms of cancer. We learned that Ameri-can Cancer Society is the largest cancer charity and works on a very lean budget. It’s the number one health organization that supports cancer patients, and she discussed why it’s different from other organizations. It was very interesting and enlightening, and we appreciated her joining us for the day and engaging with our participants.

Considering the huge number of people that attended, everything ran very smoothly. This shows us, and makes us appreciate, the results of a vibrant community pulling to-gether for a worthy cause.

We also sincerely appreciate the support, and donations of all members of our com-munity, who couldn’t attend, and to all who helped put this event together.

Please remember we are still accept-ing donations, and our tree will be up and sprouting leaves this month.

please spread the word...Tell your friends!

Dear North Shore Towers Friends and Neighbors,

As the Summer season begins, I would like to take this opportunity to say, “THANK YOU” to my thousands of friends who have shown me continued loyalty and support for the past 27 years. I take great pride in having assisted so many of you in the BUYING and SELLING of your apartments. YOUR SATISFACTION IS MY NUMBER 1 GOAL!

Due to my knowledge and experience, I am proud to report that in 2013, for the 27th consecutive year, I have once again been personally responsible for more apartment sales at North Shore Towers than any other broker! This has been accomplished through my hard work, dedication and commitment to serving my clients and customers 7 days a week. After 27 years of unprecedented sales records and non stop “running around,” I wholeheartedly “THANK YOU” for your trust and continued confidence in me.

If you are interested in exploring the possibility of SELLING you apartment, you will benefit from my endless network of prospective buyers. If you are thinking of BUYING, I always have a large selection of inventory. Choosing a broker is a very important decision, and I encourage you to meet with me and join the thousands of satisfied residents who have worked with me.

I specialize in PERSONALIZED SERVICE and most importantly, GREAT RESULTS! Client referrals and networking are the foundation of my business. I always put the needs of my clients and customers above all else, and have 27 years of experience and knowledge of the North Shore Towers market.

Whether BUYING or SELLING, please call me for a “NO OBLIGATION” consultation. I look forward to hearing from you and meeting with you personally to discuss any of your current or future real estate needs.

Sincerely, Annette Kroll
